Knicks got two of the best downhill players in Brunson and Randle, full stop. Both are more scorers than passers but their passing tendencies as elite scorers is near an elite level. I think that’s close.

Knicks have the best rebounding player in the league that’s 6’4 and under.

Last year, Donte was one of the best 3 point shooters in the league, both in terms of volume and accuracy, full stop.

Jalen is one of the best offensive players in the league, full stop.

Deuce is probably the best value contract in the league, full stop.

Kolek was the best passing PG in college last year.

The shot chart symmetry on this team is pretty insane as well. To me, this means that each player uses a different portion of the floor with an elite fg%. Coaches like Kerr and Bud utilize this knowledge exceptionally well to get players the ball where they are most effective (not just parking guys in the corner). With a motion offense and the implied movement, there is a lot of room for guys to move without the ball and get to different locations where they have elite efficiency.

These are positions where our guys have recorded elite shooting percentages.
Right Corner- OG
Right Top - Brunson
Center Top - OG
Left Top - DDV, Bridges
Left Corner - DDV, Brunson, Randle
Top Paint - Brunson, Randle, Bridges
Protected Area - Mitch Robinson, Bridges

I think that this shot chart symmetry exists, though I took some liberty of ignoring Mikal’s bad year last year and looked back to his Suns’ shot chart or Randle’s better years.

My belief is that with this floor spacing, either of Brunson or Bridges could initiate the offense from either side of the court, either could drop the ball to an open three in the corner or take the ball to the paint for an elite shot. Moving off the ball, either could end up in either corner for an elite 3. Or either could end up at the top of the 3pt area for an elite 3.

Robinson is there for elite OReb % or elite finishing potential in the paint.

Deuce doesn’t get enough credit. That’s not just a value contract. He shot 40% from 3. His wingspan is elite for his position. While we all loved IQ, Deuce made him expendable. He ball hawking is elite. I don’t care about Maxey or TJ McConnell. This kid is the real deal. Marcus Smart if Smart could shoot.

Where this goes wrong is that both 2024 Bridges and Randle were high volume low efficiency shooters. If the ball gets to sticky, they have the willingness (or necessity) to take bad shots with high volume. I think the elite talent on this team will make that unnecessary. There will be a tremendous number of open elite shots on the offense.

If you put Randle in the low paint. Brunson and Bridges at the top of the board and DDV and OG in their respective corners, I mean, how does Randle not get a 1 on 1? How do you keep 1 of Bridges or Brunson out of the paint. How is OG or DDV not getting an open look.

Swap out Robinson for Randle. How is Bridges/Robinson not racking up screen assists the whole way?

And baseline dunking. The athleticism from the corners. You take your eyes off OG or DDV and they are over the rim.

This team has weaknesses in big man health and a Randle’s Turnover percentage, but with this much space, the ball movement should be easy.

I do wonder if Deuce playing way above anyone’s wildest expectation is the new norn, or peak trade material where you don’t know if you are selling low or high, or if it’s just the tip of the iceberg and we have another IQ on the bench.
