LEts start with the good........
RJ looked damn good tonite! We should be be happier with this level of play!!!
Quickly did not **** the bed when the doubled/tripled the ball! It was his first 9 minutes and already we “Quickly this.....Quickly that......”.
Noel is skinny, but he is better than Mitch for now. Its ok, let Mitch earn it.
Other than the fouls Mitch did not play that awful. I like his movement and aggressiveness at times.
Burkes was solid. He is our Mook. Just solid. Just what we need.
This game was winnable. Thibs needs to learn and extract after just a week with the team.

One more time. Take a breath and say “its just a week”!

Move on to the bad.
A loss is a loss but this was just a sloppy mess.
Frank got in foul trouble but he plays hard defense. He needs to shoot more but he is not given the ball.
Which segways to Randle and WTF he won’t pass to frank? Frank always makes the good pass. Maybe too much but he moves the ball. NOt Randle. for this, we could have bought back Melo and rolled our eyes at that.
Obi went to school last night. This won’t be the first night or the last time this happens. They were ready for him and that shooting was awful. Its ok. Its preseason.
Kevin, Two air balls right? Friday night was a better look. Eye test was better defense and movement. Thought some shots were a bit to forced. That’s because he did not hit them? LOL, I think he plays thru this and I’m hopeful in two months we like “Damn Klingon got this!”
Elf. Eh. Not a starter in the league.

The ugly.

Maybe Julius goes here? Thing is DSjr made it worse. He is trying on defense and he not bloody awful but he getting the rim and its like “oh shyt, this is not pick up in Los Angelos, these MOFu’s are LONG..........I’m waiting for an Ooooow, AAAAAAH moment. Give me a cross over, create space, a no look pass, anything to make me like you!!!!!! “Solid”? We got frank and Elf and btw Austin is coming off the bench and he can bring “solid” too. Dennis needs to get me off my chair and thats not happening. I’m sulking!!!

Reggie Bullock. LOoks skinny and was bricking.
Kevins air balls belong in he ugly.

Game was no blow out and its not like they did not try. Detroit is lotto bound.
For what its worth thats where we are going. Its one thing to know this but its another to experience it.
Losing sucks.

Did anyone notice when DSJ was replaced by Frank late in the game during a timeout, DSJ got up from the seat to let Frank sit down in the huddle and displayed a bit of an attitude? The glass half full angle is he's a competitor and never wants to come out, the glass half empty angle is that he's a baby and was more worried about minutes than winning the game.

I'm ready to move on from DSJ. I don't think it's gonna happen for him...at least not here.

I saw that as well. I think that's the point where he realized he slipped off whatever rope he had left.
He's a dilemma. And he needs a place to go to either remember the game or find a profession or trade (like maybe plumber).

The true misfortune of this game was that it had to have burst whatever illusions Thibs had that Miller didn't do more with this team (the bodies remain largely interchangeable from last year) and that Thibs could do better.

Hahn, in his car ride home FB chat, was shaken at how bad this game looked (preseason and all). But he also talked about how Minny fans were warning him that the pattern with Thibs is big hustle early and then a tuning out. Thibs has to cut bait early or the same dysfunction that plagued Fizz will swallow Thibs.

Rose needs to move DSJ anywhere but here quickly. Randall's bags should be packed and in his trunk as well.

And this game speaks to why resigning Miller to a bench position would have been smart. Thibs is learning what Miller had to learn and that's a slow learning curve when nobody wants your players.

You are absolutely right.

We don’t have a good PG! All Casey did was have his team do a zone defense and double the ball handler and the offense was stymied. Like it’s insane how the Knicks never get a good PG. it’s always PF’s and Centers.

The algorithm gives and the algorithm takes away

I did not catch that. I can imagine he is frustrated with himself and disappointed. I had a friend who played Pro Hockey in Germany and in the USA in the minors. Played a bit at the AHL level but really never had a chance. He said at that level your just a few shifts away from being called up to the NHL and the competition on the team is very intense. Some guys had the contracts, some did not. They were killing each other. ONce he got “Demoted” and went to Germany, then to the level below AHL he really enjoyed himself, started playing better than ever. He got into coaching. Dennis is in a bad spot today. His chance is slipping and once. You lose that spot it gets harder and harder.

Last yer we read how great Mudiay was on Utah. Right? He gone. UFA. Poof. Nothing. Had a great summer run in the playoffs. Right now he is outside looking in. 7th pick. He did everything right too the last few years. Dennis was touted as potentially the top pick in the NBA draft. Now he is toast??

I notice it too .. DSJ & Knox couldn't do anything right together, fast break or halfcourt offense looked all sloppy making the Piston defense look outstanding. DSJ performance look as if he did not work-out with any Knick player throughout the long offseason (that says,"he's not a NBA PG").
The Piston defensive zone, made me want to question Thibs slow non-moving offense, plus CUT DSJ & Knox, after the 2nd preseason game. DSJ NBA career may end after this season if he perform like this in the regular season.
And the Knicks previous president/GM need to be sued for not extending center D'Andre Jordan contract for 4 yrs.
Last night, the Knick Team POOR shooting without a offensive plan showed fans theirs no chemistry in any lineup Thibs put out on the court. The rookie Quickley are one of the fast quick-release shooters the Knicks has on their roster, but its not good without an offensive-plan having picks, ball-movement, and players moving without the ball.
Randle & Bullock & Noel have a problem picking off Payton & RJ defensive-man in a zone, and Payton & RJ had problems moving without the ball to interupt the Pistons zone.

I'm not quite this cynical. I think what's wrong and what has pushed all of our panic buttons is that someone (maybe Rose, maybe Thibs, maybe Kentucky groupthink) is advocating for the redemption of DSJ and Randle.

Unfortunately, in doing so, all of the other china pieces we have assembled in young players are tightly coupled to that experiment. And so, when DSJ is being handed first PG off the bench duty everybody with eyes and a brain goes into convulsions watching the thing.

What are we watching? Well, to begin with, yet another narrative being sold by the NBA that DSJ deserves a "chance" after (violin music) his rough past year. He has worked on his shot yet again with someone who knows where the basket is - he is physically more gifted than anybody on the team - ignore his innumerable deficiencies because in just twenty games or so he'll be tradeable... and so on.

The trouble is that his deficiencies haven't changed. His shot is no better than it was last year. He has bought into the idea of positionless basketball so much that he no longer knows how to play PG. It's a train-wreck.

Why are we convulsing? We've seen this movie before. We've seen these previews before. We watch Ntilikina yet again sit on the bench as if he's the problem. And when Ntilikina isn't on the floor, Quickley doesn't get on the floor.

It's not that we don't have superior PG candidates, its that only after 20 losses do they get a F'n break.

And there's so much Kentucky homerism that Dotson wasn't resigned. I'm homesick for NY.

Knox plays too fast and Dennis plays too slow...Knox is always in a rush and never lets the game come to him. On one of his air-balls, his feet wasn't even set before he launched one up. Dennis is thinking way too much. In his 4th year, this shouldn't be a problem...

Dennis spent the entirety of his high school and 1 year at college physically dominating players and never had to really learn the game. And now it's almost too late

absolutely my biggest fear. i can't think of the last time he blew past someone --it's been that long. It's not like he's driving hard to hoop, collapsing D and drawing (or trying to draw) a foul. Instead he dribbles slowly at the top and then dumps. i have seen him lose a guy on a cut and that sort of thing but that's different.

also responding to some other posts on Randle. For whatever it's worth i have not seen him attempt his spinover move. yes i have seen him try to take coast to coast but have not seen that drive into a double team, only to spin into a triple team. So maybe someone told him to stop and he's listened. No i still don't like Randle but if he dropped that dumb move i want to give credit where it's due

Randle has developed the ability to lose the ball without a spin move that much is true. And unlike DSJ, he is a placeholder on the floor who gives Obie time to develop his game and teamwork.

But in that last game NY cut a 14 point lead to like 4 points. Time for Randall to close that gap! I still have no idea WTF was going on there but Randall suddenly became a basketball lawyer of some kind who, had there been a God, should have gotten his ass thrown out of the game.

But no.

He's still a Knick in a timezone that feels like dog years.
