I'd rather call up Jimmer and give him 5 minutes a game to bomb from long range and drive other teams crazy. Sasha's minutes.

So maybe the most relevant fact is he's out there - been out there, and the Knicks despite having both NBA AND D-League roster openings, have not bitten.

This is a good point. I was in favor of the DWill signing, but the bottom line is that the front office knows a lot better where a player is at and what he can do here. They get to talk to the guy in person, for starters. And see him play in person. They probably know about 250% more about these guys than we do.

It seems like it could be a fit. But I have to believe management saw some sort of red flag, be it personality, style or play, or heck, he may not be recovered yet from his knee surgery. He only played like 8 games with the Sixers this season, I think.

Unless you are looking at a sticky thread, game thread, or a pre-draft "Case For..." thread, at this moment you have to go to UK page 45 (Official Free Agency Hot Stove Thread)to find more views for a thread than this one has received.

I don't see this as an Anti Wroten thing anymore than all of the other guards out there Phil could choose from. It could simply be a Pro current Knicks thing. He may not want any new distractions at this moment.

He's a PG who can get to the rim and has averaged 17ppg 6apg over a full season in the NBA. The Knicks have an empty roster spot.

Look, if Phil and the brain trust don't think it's worth a shot, I respect that. But I think you can see why some would be interested in giving him a shot.

Not wading through 14 pages or whatever is it.

Has the question of why the 5-win team he did it for last season who needed a player in the backcourt as evidenced by the Smith pick-up let him go?

They let Ish Smith go at the end of last season, too. Then reacquired him and now he's playing great for them. Weird, huh.

Sixers treat PG's like disposable water cups! Can't really judge a PG based on anything they do. Besides AA, LT and DWILL weren't exactly guys their former teams felt were untouchable. Same with Shved last year.

Wroten didn't look that good in the few games I saw him play. I don't like him as fit for us, but it makes sense for us to kick the tires. I'd rather take a look at Erick Green. I see the Jamal Crawford and JR Smith comparisons for Wroten, but those guys gave you hope because they could hit shots off the catch and shoot fairly recently.Anyone have catch and shoot numbers for Wroten?

Literally speaking, half his shots are at the rim and then rest are 3pointers. And he's shooting career 23% from there.

Dude literally cannot put the ball in the basket outside of a layup. I wonder how defenses would plan against him....?

Wroten is most definitely a poor shooter. That is something he must improve on but the reasons for taking a look at him aren't solely about who he is at this stage of his development. I think he's got immense potential if he can be coached up and developed properly. I don't believe he's had that kind of development nor been among enough Vets to help him either. He's 22 and still has a ton of upside. My view is not that he's going to just come in and dominate but rather that he could be another quality cheap talent to be developed for the long haul.

Check out this article on Wroten.

http://bballbreakdown.com/2014/11/is-tony-wrotens-hot-start-sustainable-or-an-early-season-fluke/

The Philadelphia 76ers are predictably off to an 0-9 start, punctuated by a 53-point loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday. It has been as dreadful as that summary makes it look. But amidst this otherwise dismal season, third year guard Tony Wroten has been a shining beacon of hope.

Through November 13th, Wroten ranked fifth in the league in free-throw attempts (64), fourth in steals (19) and sixth in assist percentage (39.4%). He is averaging 20.5 points, 6.1 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 1.8 three pointers in just 32.4 minutes per game, often single-handedly willing the lackluster 76ers into remaining somewhat competitive in games. He is also leading the league in turnovers with 36, although the positives far outweigh this.

However, 2014 Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams has finally returned from injury, and made his season debut against Dallas. Carter-Williams will now inevitably retake the point guard duties Wroten has been filling, which means Wroten’s minutes and role will have to be adjusted accordingly. With this in mind, can Wroten maintain his sizzling start, or was it nothing more than an early-season mirage born out of the free reign that comes with having no competition on a team short of much cohesion?

The answer, as you might suspect, likely falls somewhere in the middle of those two possibilities.

So far this season, Wroten has logged 97% of his minutes at the point guard spot per Basketball-Reference, which is clearly unsustainable upon Carter-Williams getting up to full speed. He is currently tied for fourth in the league in usage percentage, using 31.5% of his team’s possessions, which also will not continue once Carter-Williams regains his spot in the starting lineup.

That said, it is not as though Wroten hardly touched the ball at all during his first year with the Sixers in 2013-14. He used up 27.7% of the Sixers’ possessions during his time on the floor last year, which means that while his per-game averages should decrease with MCW back as the starting point guard, he should not take a complete tumble into irrelevance statistically. Furthermore, Wroten is only taking 2.7 jump shots off of the dribble per game this season, which ranks him at only 95th in the league, despite his high usage. And while Wroten has not had much opportunity this season to demonstrate his shooting when off of the ball – taking only 2.3 catch-and-shoot attempts per game, the same amount as big man team mate Henry Sims – he nevertheless has hit those shots at 47.6%.

Wroten has quickly become a Philadelphia embodiment of the “Moreyball” style of basketball, rarely shooting anything other than free throws, close range shots and three pointers. Of the 125 field goal attempts he has fired up through eight games, 82 of those shots have come from within five feet of the basket, per NBA.com, while 38 have been from 24 feet or beyond. He has therefore taken just five shots between six feet from the basket and the three point arc, with not a single one coming from the 16- to 24-foot range. (He has hit none of those five mid-range shots, by the way.)

You should go to the web page and check out the entire article which has is longer and has a shot chart and videos.

Nix thanks for posting that. I linked to the Grantland article about Wroten mentioned in your article and I think it is worth reading.

So maybe the most relevant fact is he's out there - been out there, and the Knicks despite having both NBA AND D-League roster openings, have not bitten.

Lopez ain't Patrick Ewing he's had a good stretch after a multitude of bad games -- lets keep it real Didn't you want to pick Justice Winslow??? I would pick Eri k Greene myself but I would TRY other options-- it makes huge common sense. I have 100% certainty Greene is better than Grant

wow 14 pages for the immortal tony wroten...also for the legendary jimmer fredette. lol
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

WHY do people do this??? This team needs to consider adding better help off the bench, so yeah these threads can get long cuz the need is real. We aren't gonna likely see a more significant player added given what we have to offer in any possible trade. So all we can do is look for help from what's left. That means guys like Wroten or D Leaguers like Jimmer! NO ONE is making them out to be more than they are, regardless of how many pages this thread has!!!

The hope is adding better options than Sasha or Seraphin off the bench could help.

i was just joking around dude. its not that deep. its not like phil listens to us or reads this board.

most likely D leaguers arent going to help the team or change the season. and most likely they wont be better than seraphin (maybe sasha...hes awful). lol

im just playing the odds that scrubs picked up from the d league or waivers list - arent that good and wont significantly help this team.

the team is set for the most part with a solid 9 man rotation. looks like coach fisher has learned how to use the bench wisely and the talent here is solid enough to compete in the mediocre eastern conference. unless a major trade occurs to get REAL proven talent, i dont see this team making major upgrades

Perhaps a kid like Wroten or Jimmer might not make a huge difference, but maybe they help the team in a few games that they would otherwise not have won. That could happen as well. Besides IMO it's not just about what they might add to the win column this year but also I like the idea of adding some talent to the mix that fills a need or brings something different to the table, rather than just having guys who we know haven't really helped the team much so far or bring anything else to the table that we could use.
