these contracts are ridiculous. you think pujols (who becomes a free agent in 2 years when he turns 30) will be the first $300mil player?

i can't wait to hear the idiots on ESPN gizzing in their pants on Baseball Tonight over Theo Epstein's "genius no brainer intelligent baseball move" after they sign Mark Tex to an obscene contract after they ragged on the Yankees for giving CC that contract in this weak economy.

Counting achievement bonuses, I thought A-Rod's contract came to $305

Hearing we're making a major push for Manny now - might offer him something in the vicinity of 3 yrs./$75 mil. I know he's exactly what we need but I tell ya, I'm not interested. I hate him. In my book he's the enemy. He's a Red Sox - and then he shut down on those very same Red Sox and forced himself outta town where he enjoyed much success for an organization that was very tolerant of his nonsense & was very good to him. He's a complete side show - come on, he throws that PR guy, an older gentleman, to the floor because the guy couldn't get him enough tickets?? 'Manny being Manny' - HORSESHIT! Let him go pull that crap with someone else. Never even adhered to Torre's rules and got himself a haircut when he became a Dodger... Didn't Damon care enough to clean himself up when he became a Yankee??

Can't stand the sight of this guy - here's hoping they decide to pass and go in a different direction. Supposedly Hank and Hal want him bad, but Cashman's "lukewarm" on the idea (yesterday's Daily News).

I'm not sure I agree with the interpretation the media is giving that Manny actually quit on the Red Sox. Maybe he was slightly underperforming but his average and OPS were .299 and .927. Just to put that in perspective, while Manny supposedly had "quit on his team" he was producing an OPS that was almost 100 points higher than Jeter's career average, and higher than the *career best* seasons of Matsui, Cano, and Damon. If that's how he's gonna hit when things go poorly, then maybe we should lock him up for *more* than three years!

MannyBury.

GIve him 2 years. No one is lining up for him. If the Dogders want to log longer and higher, let him hang in LA.

i would offer Manny $50 mil over 2 years w/a 3rd guaranteed via performance milestones... if Manny wants to come to NY & stick it to the Red Sux he would have the perfect opportunity to do so... if he can get a better offer than that from either of the LA teams or the Nationals, i doubt the Yankees would match anyway.

CoSign.

PS: When you run so slow to first base, that it's a record breaker and when you refuse to play other games and fake injuries, I would say you quit on your team.

Thank God. I see it as a sign that the Yankees want to leave their options open for Manny or Texeira. A Cameron deal can be made afterwards if they can't get anything else done.

BTW, the Sabathia and Burnett press conference is at 1pm today.

agreed, if we sign Manny we can afford a weaker hitting platoon in CF of Gardner & Melky... the Yanks should probably look to trade Nady in that case, unless they wanted to platoon him w/Swisher at 1B which i wouldn't mind either, he's got some experience there... it's always good to have depth in case of injuries cuz u never know how durable Matsui's gonna be coming off that knee injury & if Garnder & Melky struggle in CF u can move Swisher out there & play Nady at 1B.

CC up at the podium now... seems like a really humble & unassuming guy... no primadonna in this guy from the looks of it... i think he'll be a nice fit... glad it worked out for him & for us.

AJB saying all the right things... says he relishes being the #2 behind CC just like he was the #2 behind Halladay last year... just wants to win & so does CC... big part of the reason he chose NY was cuz of CC, Joba & Mariano & he wants the big stage... hope he stays healthy cuz there's no denying he's got filthy stuff.

I wouldn't trade Nady. I really like him and think he can be a great role player. He's the type of guy you never have to worry about and he'll always be a solid professional in any role you put him in. If they do sign Manny, I expect them to aggressively shop Matsui and eat some of his contract to get a deal done.

Sabathia does seem like a pretty cool guy. Burnett is tougher to read. More serious but he says he wants to win. He's a bit of a crapshoot but he's got the nastiest stuff on the staff if he's healthy.

I liked what he said about being behind Halladay. Although I think I'd put him behind Sabathia and Wang. Split up the hard throwers with a sinkerballer.
