He was taken to Burger King by the police.

I challenge everyone (and akrud) on this board to watch the dash cam footage of the arrest of Dylann Roof, after his murder of nine people in a Charleston Church.

Until we acknowledge a problem, it will never be solved.

I think the problems are acknowledged by majority of the people and officials.
The question is how to make steps to solve them.
We outraged, we know how it should be. But how get from here to there?
Racists should not serve as police officers - so what is your test procedure to prevent it and clear the force?
Idiots should not be serving as police officers - how to filter them out without discriminating the once who not feet?
African Americans need to fight crime, violence, drugs, and poverty in their own communities.
How to do this and how the society can help without corrupting people and be fair to other disadvantaged demographics?
It is easy to criticize and blame but its hard to develop the solution and do the actual work.

So at the basic theory level, one allows for freedom, the others inherently do not and will always devolve into Stalinesque Totalitarianism at some point.

Again, these are my opinions based on family history and looking throughout history.

I'm no communist, and I'm not an economist, but I know enough about history and what I see before my eyes in this nation to know that this is an overly simplistic and myopic view of capitalism which neglects to take into consideration the meaning and causes of today's unequal income distribution, something which might someday push the nation into chaos.

You are pushing the viewpoint that some in power want you to have. It's the individual, not the system, that is the problem...and therefore there are not changes needed.

In essence, you view becomes part of the problem.

You are correct. I said it was basic theory level.

The point is that one system promotes freedom and the other promotes tryanny. That cannot be argued, IMO.

As for what you see as inequitable, I would argue that in capitalism, the idea is to grow the "pie" so everyone has a chance to succeed. In socialism, the idea is that everyone suffers equally. It is intended to bring down the rich vs lifing up the poor! What I hope you see is that the rich will stay rich under socialism as well. The gap just gets wider. The middle gets smaller. Look at the stats over the last 40 years. Despite all the talk about closing the gap it has in fact widened. The war on poverty started in the 60s! We still have it and its more than ever. How can that be? Its just talk. The crisis is needed so some can complain about it. IT is similar to the war on drugs.

“As a society, we choose to underinvest in decent schools. We allow poverty to fester so that entire neighborhoods offer no prospect for gainful employment. We refuse to fund drug treatment and mental health programs. We flood communities with so many guns that it is easier for a teenager to buy a Glock than get his hands on a computer or even a book. And then we tell the police, ‘You’re a social worker; you’re the parent; you’re the teacher; you’re the drug counselor.’ We tell them to keep those neighborhoods in check at all costs and do so without causing any political blowback or inconvenience; don’t make a mistake that might disturb our own peace of mind. And then we feign surprise when periodically the tensions boil over.”

Unequally is inevitable. People have different abilities so they get different chunk of wealth.
The point is not who owned what but who consumed wealth, who produced wealth, and who destroyed it.
We already have enough wealth to support elderly people, handicapped, and children in need at reasonably high level.
Some countries close to be able to support people who can but do not willing to work.
If this will be the case this people will be able to just take care about family and do arts and other activities which cannot support them financially.
From historical point of view it does not matter how wealth of nations came to be.
What is matter is if people are healthier, happier, have more secure and stable live, more freedom to express themselves and do things they like.
If wealth is diminished all this is not possible.
Who cares if somebody has billions if he/she has almost all of it invested in productive business which creates jobs and plenty of wealth.
Socialism is the impersonation of jealousy to other people achievements which leads to destruction of wealth.

Nicely said especially the first and last lines.

I'm going to miss our President. I hope he finds a way to stay engaged in the public sphere, he's the type of leader we need. (After that three month nap he's supposed to take at the end of his second term.)

As a society we invest in God is Me liberal theology that teaches the values of self-entitlement, self-esteem at all costs, and self-centeredness. We educate kids that whatever they feel is right, whatever they want to be happy is right, and anyone who says differently is an intolerant bigot that deserves to be berated, marginalized and removed from any positions that may provide meaningful input to society. We promote sex whenever, with whoever with whatever. We sell and promote glorified video games and blockbuster CGI violence. We laugh and enjoy music that promotes the cutting edge of women as beeyatches, police as targets worthy of getting what they deserve and drugs as legalized candy. We have an entire generation of people who think anyone making more than $100K (except for our fabulous POTUS) is an evil white hate monger, who's sole goal in life is to keep the terrible minorities down and out, who can't hold a job longer than they hold onto an Iphone. Groups like Black Lives Matter (you ever bother to read their site, misterearl?) and teachers of Liberation Theology promote families without values, society without coherency and freedoms based unapologetically on thin air. Rage sells, and it sure looks good on the web, doesn't it?

Talk to some black police officers, and see what their experience is in dealing with this 'feigned surprise' that could all just go away if we dump more money on the problems of life. They are demanded to choose sides and if they choose law enforcement they are labeled Uncle Tom faster than Obama's minions can type out another meme sound bite.

Not enough money, way too many guns and Obama lives in a world where 'people' tell the police they're in charge of everything unless they pull someone over in traffic. Then the police suddenly have no authority whatsoever because they're just a part of the 'entirely racist system' empowering 'the man'.

We choose Self, and when we don't like what that produces we have to enhance and embrace divisiveness so Self has some Other to blame.

If I would segregate I would have only 2 groups of people:
People who do the job to make world better place. They may do mistakes while doing it but they are the once who are moving the world forward.
And people who just talk and vine and blame and do nothing. They may not do anything wrong them-self but they are the root of evil.
Interesting to see what some neighborhoods will become if police will move out and how long it will take until National Guard with M16th and bazookas will be called in to protect whats left from civilization.

I think he is taking a nap for last 6 years already.
Not sure how things get better at his watch.
Race relations are completely fall apart for sure...
With all due respect to his presentation skills his body of work as president is awful.

I strongly disagree. If you think Obama created the institutionalized racism that is the problem in this country, I don't know what to tell you. Things aren't falling apart, people are finally talking about (and via Twitter and social media finally being made aware of) a problem that has existed since America was founded. Obama didn't create this situation and if you think it's on him to solve it, I'm not sure what to tell you. Obama is finally talking about this stuff. He's tried to do a lot more than he's been able to, because of the GOP congress that has been bought and sold and blocks any gun bill or economic bill or anything Obama tries to do. If you're blaming race relations in America on Obama we probably shouldn't even be talking about this though.

A police lieutenant is a great friend of mine. Younger guy with a family, three young kids. He works in north Jersey in a fairly rough area. He's so shaken by this, he really doesn't see any way for this whole thing to work out. He's talked about quitting.

He actually said the same thing you just did in the bold.

A great study is to look at countries where the police force IS the army. Things get pretty bleak and hopeless, pretty fast. There, it's not shootings and brutality, it's shelling directly at people who are standing in line to try and get humanitarian aid.

That's because he is reactive and not proactive. At least he finally attempted to unite us with his last briefing instead of further dividing us. He has a tendency to flame fires without having all the facts. He manages to inject the same rhetoric every time which further divides us. No matter what the issue it is guns are always to blame and he refuses to acknowledge the world has a serious problem with radical terrorism. A whole lotta nothin until the next disaster he has to get back up there and address. He draws comparisons between current events to major problems we've dealt with 60+ years ago as if no progress has been made. It has us going backwards instead of forward. It's no coincidence that both he and Hillary come from Chicago and worship Sal Alinsky's radical ideas which is an attempt to abolish respect for authority and capitalism. Making America like the rest of the globe and not realizing its ramifications.

Wow.

There have been over 100,000 deaths by gun in this country since 20 children were executed by an assault rifle near my home town in Sandy Hook, CT in December 2012, less than four years ago. You could fill the largest stadium in the world with the dead Americans from gun violence in that time span.

How many deaths by radical terrorism?

An actual divisive force in this country is the NRA and gun manufacturers which profit off the deaths of American citizens and pays Congress to keep it that way.

You think we would need militarized police forces if it wasn't legal to buy AR-15 assault rifles and unlimited ammo? The police are scared, rightly so, they can be outgunned in many situations. But they're overreacting and shooting first far too often.

How exactly is Obama dividing people? Show me a quote of words he actually said.

You know what divides people? The racist rhetoric spewed by FOX news blaming Obama for problems that the GOP and Fox head Roger Ailes have a direct hand in perpetuating. FOX News is a disgusting blight on this country and their racist, toxic lies about Obama and basically anything else they can profit off lying about are ****ing disgusting.

Well don't worry guys, he won't have the job for much longer. Talking about flaming fires without having the facts, wasn't it nice to see Ol' W up there doing Zumba to the Battle Hymn of the Republic? All this obsession over saying the words "radical Islamic terrorism" ... putting North Korea in the "Axis of Evil" didn't magically stop them from detonating a nuke on his watch.

But whatever, you guys can choose to kvetch about the world going to hell and man's depraved nature and dismiss protestors and play your semantic games or you can be part of the solution. You want to sing the praises of capitalism and evils of socialism or talk about kickstarting PALs with public-private partnerships? You want to listen to a black GOP senator talk about his experience with anger towards the police and how we must not succumb or just tell him to get over it?

It is possible to police without the use of deadly force. It comes down to training. The Richmond, VA police department has one death by gun since 2007 - 9 nine years. Cops have fired at 4 suspects since 2008. 4 suspects. None of them died. You know how many bullets total they fired at four suspects? FIVE. Five total bullets over 8 years in a city of 100,000. That cop in Ferguson, put what 6 bullets into Mike Brown? The chief in Richmond tells each cop that every bullet they fire has their name on it and is a great responsibility. I have cops in my extended family and none of them are on board with the use of immediate deadly force. It should be the final recourse.

the four people shot by Richmond police since 2008 were hit with a total of five bullets, and all survived.

Read this whole article, please, it is fascinating - and gave me a little hope change is actually possible.

How many of those 100,000 deaths were from registered guns vs illegal guns?

How many of those 100,000 deaths were from registered guns vs illegal guns?

82% of guns in mass shootings are obtained legally. Thanks, NRA!

I tried looking for the info on all gun shootings, but I couldn't find any site that wasn't a NRA funded bull**** think tank. Hard to find the actual stats. The NRA wants it that way.
