Most volume scorers are inefficient until they get decent teammates. It's tough being "the guy"; if it wasn't, more teams would have a Tracy McGrady or Carmelo Anthony. I love Melo's game because of that but I also think that it would be in our better interest to trade him immediately. He's had several surgeries since being here and chronic injuries that will haunt him on his next contract like McGrady. He had to do too much since his Denver days and all of that will come to a head soon.

Are you sure about that? I haven't seen evidence that teammate quality affects TS% or FG%. Usually that's just an excuse for bad decision-making. There's a slight negative correlation between usage and efficiency (meaning more shots, lower %) but it's a very small correlation.

And why wouldn't it be the case? Better teammates offer a better assortment of shots because of floor spacing. People complain about Melo's shot selection but how often is he getting easy shots from teammates?

Who did both Iverson(Philly, younger years with Larry Brown) and Tmac (first contract with Orlando) have?
They surely were known as scorers with scoring Titles and they MOVED the ball, without much talent around them, their guys did NOT stand around unable to predict how their MAN was going to try to score....

Yeah, it's a case where the theorizing doesn't seem to hold up. TS% is remarkably stable, even when players switch teams. Melo is actually a great example. Regardless of how many all-star, Olympian, MVP candidate, etc. teammates he's had, his percentages haven't fluctuated much. Teammates may affect your percentages a little but it's much smaller than most people think. The biggest factor by far is just the decision-making of the player.

I would be sick to my stomach if he resigns for the max, I don't even know if I want him for less. If Melo was a player we could really win anything with we wouldn't be 5-14. It's not just Melo though, I'm tired of almost the entire roster of losers. Felton, JR, Amare, Udrih. I just wish they were all gone they're absolute trash. I don't care what happens with Shumpert anymore ,he doesn't look like a good player, even if that dunk was exciting. The only player I really like on this team is the rookie, that's how disgusted I am at this point.

Tracy McGrady, Shaq and Dwayne Wade were on 19 win rosters. Clearly, an abysmal season like the one we're having is not indicative of Melo's ability to contribute to a winner. Most of the guys currently on our roster will be out of the league (or close to it) once their contracts are up. Clearly, this roster is not built like a winner and that has nothing to do with Melo.

Exactly what Bonn said, Wade and Shaq were injured that 2007-2008 and Shaq only played half his games with the Heat before being traded to the suns. SHAQ was also 35 at the time, well past his prime while Melo is supposed to be in his prime years. This roster is not as terrible as you say it is, I'm sure at the beginning of the season you thought we were winning 45-50 games same as everyone else. You're only saying its a bad roster now because of how poorly the team is playing. Who will be out of the league after their contracts? Let's go through the whole roster and analyze that claim:

Out of the league in 1-2 years?

Raymond Felton nope
Pablo Prigioni possibly (only because he came in so old)
Beno Udrih doubtful
JR Smith nope
Iman Shumpert nope
THJ nope
Carmelo lol
MWP perhaps
Bargnani no
Amare perhaps
Kmart possibly
Chandler lol
C Smith definitely
T Murry?
C Aldrich?

The only player that will definitely be out of the league in my opinion is Chris Smith (who will be replaced by promising Jeremy Tyler), and our key guys all aren't leaving the league anytime soon. That is hardly an excuse. The roster is definitely capable of .500 ball there are far worse rosters out there.

i agree with bonn-- macgrady was a fairly well-rounded player but his achilles heel was his poor efficiency, never mind being injury-prone. efficiency, i think is worth echoing, is really a matter of shot selection. melo takes way too many bad shots to ever be a winning player.

neither player will be known as anything but below average defenders, either. you have to play good defense in the second round and beyond of you want to succeed.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%
