he's playing out of position at SG. it kind of worked playing next to gallo who was outside all the time anyway. next to melo, who is mid-range or inside and then outside a lot? fields doesn't know where to be with melo i don't think.

think they need someone more athletic playing the SG next to melo. i vote shump. i also vote bibby for starting pg and hope baron arrives.

I agree Melo and Fields probably should not be on the floor at the same time. Fields to backupMelo may be good.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Balkman had a somewhat controversial participation with Team Puerto Rico, where he was meant to be a main contributor but was sluggish at first. But after an issue with the coach, he started working hard and was great at the end, helping them win gold in the Panamerican Games.

He is actually playing pretty similar to that good Balkman.

Good for Balkman. I hope he can turn his career around. It was looking like this was going to be his last NBA contract, but maybe not?

Good win. Nice way to start the season.

Liked the play of our two draft picks Shump and Jorts
and liked the intensity shown across the board on defense.

We had little or no flow on offense...alot of standing around
and one on one basketball. Also, STAT wasn't himself today.

Overall impressions:

Toney is not a PG, the fact that he and Landry were left out there with the scrubs at the end might mean D'Antoni wasn't happy with their effort.

Iman looked electric. I don't see him as a PG either, more of a SG. I think he'll be somewhere between a Spree 2 and a Giant Nate (which might mean his shot selection annoys MDA)

Carmelo played the role of passer pretty well. He looked good next to Stat and Tyson.

Amar'e looked a little stiff and off his game, hoping that's just rust.

Tyson made a nice impact on the D. Like having him back there.

Bibby was not surprisingly level-headed and solid - he's the one PG we have right now. I think the starting backcourt should be Bibby and Iman, then pray for Baron.

Jorts is a nice pickup. Solid, good shooting touch, smart player, hustles. I think he's a solid backup center for the year if he keeps it up.

Fields still looks lost to me. He should maybe be the backup Small Forward. He seems way too huge to play SG, looks lost on offense at SG and not a great fit on defense against most opposing SGs.

Jeffries... is bad.

BALKMANIA!

Douglas Fields is a terrible back court im down for starting Biddy/Shump until Baron steps in. Then Douglas can shoot 3's off the bench and Fields can backup SF/SG

Some people have said Bibby may be "washed up" but he was still the starter on the NBA finalist Heat last year. He can't be that washed up. He can run an offense, for sure. He may not be the 20ppg star he used to be, but he's a level-headed, smart player. Who doesn't dribble the ball off his foot like some other guards we have.

U really can't count on Bibby..he is very slow and has to be a facilitator in this offense...He's never been good at those things..

Toney may be young and fast.... but he's one of the slowest decision makers i've ever seen at the point. and he picks up his dribble at the point.

i'd be willing to bet money toney isn't the starting point guard on christmas day in the morning.

i think bibby starts for a while, then hopefully baron.

Ideally, Knicks get BoomDizzle and he and Bibby share the PG spot since Douglas just isn't a point guard. Landry shifts to SF backup Melo, and Iman starts at the 2

TD didn't look that good, but i was pleased to see him hit his teammates with good passes on the pick and roll at least 3 times.

Toney Douglas is a "paint by numbers" guard. Too deliberate and WAY too predictable.

The years Mike Bibby played with the immature Atlanta Hawks stunted his game. With a veteran team he can manage the floor much more effectively and not be depended on for as much. He has the ability to lead.

Shift Du Jour

Bibby
Shumpert
Carmelo
Stoudemire
The Big Fella

Landry Fields is the sixth man
Harrelson is nice
Jeffries is 6'11
Balkman is Back

Baron Davis like the big city.
