i guess it's weird i'm hearing all these complaints about Felton taking shots these days but i didn't hear anyone complaining when he was averaging 16 shot attempts per game during our last 8 game winning streak.
His production during that streak was not sustainable. It was good while it lasted, but if you're looking at the long-term health of the team, his play is problematic.
i think u'r expecting a little too much out of Felton... he's pretty much played over his head this year & has been a key reason for the turn around in play... he's been a leader & he's played solid defense all year... his shot selection could use a little work at times, there's no question, but how much of that is due to a lack of dependable options to pass the ball off to in crunchtime situations? when teams are constantly doubling down on Amare in the paint in the closing minutes, & the rest of the team is full of young inexperienced players for the most part, what better options does Felton have? Felton is no star, that much was clear before he ever got here... ur talking about guys like Nash as if there were a lot of other PGs out there that play like a 1st ballot HOFer... be realistic... Felton has for the most part fulfilled his contract & made a positive impact on this roster... the team clearly needs another major piece to be considered a realistic contender in the East... if u want to see Felton take less shots, get him someone else to pass the ball to that we can rely on as a better option
It's all true, he's been a leader and played solid defense, and that is a very big positive and a huge part of our success this year. There is no question that he is a great upgrade to our previous point guards.
But it's not that I'm expecting too much. It's that I'm expecting less. He would contribute more by doing less. By forcing less shots and taking a more indirect role in the offense he would be a much better player.
The best point guards are really like the generals of old, standing behind the violence of the battlefield but exerting ultimate control in the flow and actions of their forces. Felton right now is too close to the action, he's mixing it up with the soldiers and confusing his duties.
