His niche is something like Jerome Williams. I like his energy/hustle/motor. I think with D'ANtoni's playing style and the KNicks rosters you need someone like PEJ for balance.

He is shooting better, but he still seems awkward with the ball at times, and anything he can actually do on the court can be matched or exceeded by Fields or Landry.

I think we would more likely pick up someone from another team;s SL squad than keep Ewing on our final roster. He might be asked to participate in our pre-season camp if Orlando doesn't ask him, but I just can't see him sticking on this Knicks team.

Summer League rookie ladder shows our 2nd 2nd rounder as the surprise of Vegas and in at #9 currently.
Good job Mr Fields!!! it is apparent to me that somebody did their homework on this guy.

Fields is a guy who can play. He does a lot of things well and looks like he knows what he's doing out there. And, he's got the intelligence and the work ethic to make himself better.

Yeah, right?

The love for the scrubs is astounding but it's something we see each and every year.

Some fans probably have our starting lineup like this:

C-Jared Jordan
F-Amare
F-Fields
G-Rottens
G-Felton

....let the rings roll in!

These SL guys are all bums. Every one of them. Being the "best" of the bums is nothing to be proud of. The "best" of the bums shouldn't even see the light of day on the 12 win Nets.

Never understood the unbridled enthusiasm over some scrub players. I'll never get it. All I know is when the big boys play then 99.9% of these hacks are no where to be found. Go figure.

But, hey, let's talk them up to be starting caliber players for the next 15 years.

So let me get this cleared up...

you don't think that Rautins/Jordan will be our Mr. Inside/Mr. Outside for the next 10 years?

Scary that you are "writing to yourself" by the way.

And come on, now- you have to be impressed by the game Fields has shown us so far. The guy is a pretty heady player, and he has enough athletic ability to go along with his smarts to become a rotational quality player in the NBA, and maybe more if he works on his J and lateral D.

Just got done watching a replay of yesterday's game against the Pistons. A few observations:

(1) Interview with D'Antoni - Very strange interview. Seems excited enough about all the new acquisitions but had some real strange things to say about Landry Fields. Started out by commenting a few times about what a "surprise" he's been so far which was an odd choice of words imo. Really? How is he a surprise Mike? You drafted him, you should know exactly what he can do. Nothing he's doing right now should come as a surprise to MDA, only to guys like me that never really heard of him. Then a little later when Clyde was asking him about Gallo and what he's up to, MDA responded with "I don't know...He better be ready though 'cause we've got some guys to fill in like Henry Fields.." Henry Fields?? WTF? Who's that? LOL!! I had to rewind it just to make sure I heard him correctly. Almost as bad as when Donnie was referring to MDA as "D'Antonio" when he first hired him..It all tells me MDA had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the Fields pick. Makes you wonder who exactly is responsible for player evaluation and ultimately making the selections..I think it's safe to assume Donnie Walsh didn't come up with Landry Fields on his own..I would just like to know who's in charge throughout the whole drafting process because it sounds like the final say isn't coming from the top (Donnie & Mike)..Whoever it is deserves to be commended in this instance because the kid can play.. MDA went on to criticize the dude a little too, saying he's got a flat shot among other things. Surprising considering he's played consistently at such a high level in every game so far. Not sure what to make of these comments -- might not bode well for this young man...A few mins. later when running through all the players, Mike mentioned Bill Walker losing "40 lbs." Really Mike? WTF dude, have you even talked to him? Just looking at Walker for a couple of games now, I don't even know if the whole "he lost 25 lbs." thing is completely accurate. We hear this type of stuff every summer with guys (remember when Channing Frye supposedly put on 20 lbs. of muscle?? ) Walker looks pretty much the same to me..MDA kinda off his game in this interview a little bit..

(2) Amar'e interview - Dude sounds more and more impressive every time I hear him speak. You definitely get the idea you're listening to a grown man and a leader and not some kid whenever he speaks. Very solid individual. Sounds like a guy that's up for the challenge and all the responsibility that comes with playing in NY..I think he's gonna be great here...Hit on all the right notes such as why he chose NY -- he didn't insult anyone's intelligence and not mention the money, saying that the gauranteed contract was absolutely important to he & his family. He also said he wants the challenge and is interested in turning the franchise around -- you know what, some guys blow smoke but I genuinely believe him. Some guys shy away from NY as we've seem -- Amar'e didn't. I truely believe he wants to be here. That's huge..Also talked about what he learned from Nash/G Hill/Shaq about being a leader and how he plans on assuming that type of role here. Also sounded excited about playing for Team USA (good for him - it's an honor that he absolutely deserves) and said he plans on being aggressive "attacking the rack" because "that's what I do best." Mentioned that he holds the Garden record for most FT attempted in a regulation game (either 24 or 27 he couldn't remember). Interesting, I didn't know that...Also said any issues he may have had with MDA have been blown out of proportion. He actually said reuniting with a coaching staff he was familiar with was a major reason why he chose NY.

(3) TD - didn't look great yesterday. We'll be OK now with Ray Felton getting the bulk of the minutes at the point but I still feel we could benefit from an upgrade at backup point over Douglas somewhere along the way.

(4) Landry Fields - continues to impress. Looks like a fairly complete package -- scorer/rebounder, smart, crafty, runs the floor well, can handle it a little bit, good passer..Very nice pick..

(5) Jerome Jordan - played better and sounds like a mature kid when Tina spoke to him at halftime..As much work as he needs physically, he needs to learn the game -- committed 10 fouls yesterday..That's way too many..He was a good investment by the Knicks though -- now I want to see the team put in the necessary time and effort into developing him into an NBA player.

(6) Rautins - a little better yesterday but he still looks overmatched.

(7) Leo Lyons - getting a little bit of a look the last two games but doesn't look like an NBA player unfortunately.

(8) Charles Garcia - finally gets a cup of coffee but it might be too late. Giving Garcia ample PT should've been a priority right from the start. You almost get the feeling they don't like him for whatever reason (he's obviously not hurt, we know that now)..It a shame because I've been reading about his unique skillset for some time now..Kinda get the feeling that we'll never really find out what this kid's all about..Kind of a shame when you think about it. I'm a little disappointed in Dan D'Antoni's refusal to give this kid enough of a look..Very puzzling. I guess they know something we don't - maybe there are character or work ethic issues we don't know about.

So MDA (the coach) gets zero credit or blame (depending on how you look at it) for not drafting Fields but somehow he gets all the credit or blame for drafting Gallo because he's Italian. How does that work?

mda comes across like an a-hole. just like larry non-legend did in his one year here. arrogant spoiled f**ks who don’t know what team loyalty is. happily throw anyone in management under the bus if they don’t' get their way. distance themselves from anyone they didn’t suggest picking up. it's actually funny as s**t that they both got saddled with pottymouth darko.

mda's on a mad short leash with me. me and bjones got a plan in mind. who's with us?

I always find MDA to be a strange interview- not your usual coach answers at times, and he is willing to point out the warts on his players.

Some comments:

I love Fields, and feel he will eventually make Walker expendable, but his comment about his shot and his D is just dead on correct. Houston will work on his shot- he definitely needs more of an arc on it.

I think that Rautins was his boy in the draft, no doubt about it.

Jordan better start the year in the DL, probably with Rautins. Thought he had a better interior game. Has he even tried to show off his hook shot yet?

Garcia was one of the undrafted guys I really wanted to see get minutes, along with Wittman. I think they determine minutes based on how guys have performed in practice- tells me that Garcia has not shown enough in their team workouts to warrant playing time.

Lyons does not seem to be NBA material at this time.

Rautins did look better, and they gave him the chance to play PG, but his shot was still flat. Have not given up on him, but he should be starting in the DL unless he really comes alive during pre-season.

For me, TD has been a disappointment in terms of showing that he has learned how to be a PG. Does not make the guys around him better, and has shown a surprising shoot first mentality this summer.

Kinda tough to get around that little fact....

I kind of look at the team as a whole. I don't view Jerome Jordan as a viable rotation player in the NBA TODAY--but when Im looking at the SL--what I want to see is what are we working with. I think Jerome--while he has played crppy enough to understand he will be in the D league this year also has shown enough where you can see with INCREASED base strength(overall strength) repetition and hard work--he can become a valuable player over time. This is what I thought we were getting. I think when someone says lets draft this big at 29--38 or whatever it is after 10---you are very likely looking at a 2 year transition period for that player. It takes time for bigs who are not fully developed. That being said you could see the attributes of being 7-1 and athletic. Right now he is a poor mans Javalee Mcgee---so he needs to work to get into the middle class this year and lets see what we have next SL. If he scks next year--then you can scream after a hard year of development. If he works hard and performs nicely in the D league--Id like to see him 10 pounds of muscle stronger playing with atrue PG in the SL next year. I think you might see what Im talking about. I think it's fair to say hes stinking up the joint when he wasnt finishing puppies around the basket in the 2nd game etc... but yesterday he showed more of what he can do--although he is still far off. Its called team building.

You make very good points there BRIGGS.

Yet through that I think he has zero chance to make the cut in the end.

Given we "bought" him in a trade you know we will give him every opportunity to grow and succeed.

I just don't expect it.

In the end it's of no real consequence for the Knicks whether or not we keep him or whether or not he improves. So I guess there's no harm in trying.

Just voicing my POV on the player is all.

With Felton on board, we're looking at Toney getting significant minutes at SG.

With Felton on board, we're looking at Toney getting significant minutes at SG.

I know, I just thought he might have made some changes to his game. It is clear that you cannot have him as your primary backup PG for an extended period of time.

TD's offensive game and D will always be there for him to fall back on- don't see why he could not make himself more valuable to the team by working on the distribution aspect of his game.
