simmons asks ford on his show of all the teams that "has to make a move in the draft" he says...

the knicks...

"i don't know where the knicks are going right now."

"they're in limbo right now"

simmons then proposes a trade...

curry, jeffries and the 8 pick for shaq

ford says if it was a better draft that phx might do it in part because "the 8 pick this year is about the equivalent as the 18th pick in a normal draft."

he asks, "jrue holiday? brandon jennings? demar derozan? i'm not sure if any of these players are going to be anything in the league. they might be."

simmons and ford also hail rubio, and rail on memphis over what they did with gasol (ford says it was the owner and not the gm, but this makes him feel a need to win every deal immediately) saying that this has effectively ruined their shot at rubio wanting to play there. they say if you ask him if rubio would have dropped months ago, he would have said no way. he also railed on the kings for thinking evans was a better pick.

he said just what i think about evans...that he will not be a pg in the nba.

rubio he says has the intangibles, that you can't see on paper, and the idea that he is not "ready" is silly. simmons basically agrees, and apparently he is usually an anti-international player guy.

ford also says fans are a lot more knowledgeable about prospects than before with the internet, and it creates consensus picks being more powerful than before.

"i feel bad for the knicks a little bit...unfortunately, knicks fans, i don't think you're going to see stephon curry wear a knicks uniform this year." - ford

If Thabeet fell in this draft to 8 we should run to the platform and announce his name in less than 10 seconds.

I don't want to make a new thread with so many focusing on the draft subject, but I want to ask this:

We are closing on the draft and things are starting to shape up. Teams are establishing the players they like. Before the draft buzz started, Ricky Rubio was considered a franchise player. He was supposed to be the 2010 consensus #1 pick back then. He chose to go now and with the buyout and all his stock has fallen a little bit, though he is still expected to go Top 4.

On the other hand we have Steph Curry. The guy was unstoppable in college but was still considered a late lottery-mid 1st round pick until everyone started talking about him. Now he is also expected to go Top 5 though he is maybe one of the most likely to fall to 8th for the Knicks.

Since its time to take a stand as a team, what would you do?

Would you trade Chandler, Pick #8, the Mobley contract and/or expiring contracts for the #2 Pick (Rubio) and bad contracts, possibly the best chance to make a deal with Memphis? Is Rubio really worth messing up "The Plan" a little and losing a young talent like Chandler?

Would you trade up using a few of the assets we have (expirings or Mobley contract) for a better chance at Curry?

Or would you simply stay put and hope Curry slips, being the worst case scenario Flynn or Holiday (not sexy names for many here)?

Its now or never

imo no. i value chandler, especially after only 2 years in the league, and the #8 more than i do rubio , curry, whoever.

sure. as long as we weren’t' taking back longer contracts.
Or would you simply stay put and hope Curry slips, being the worst case scenario Flynn or Holiday (not sexy names for many here)?

i'm good with that too. i think the #8 pick in this draft could easily turn out to have as good a career as the 2.

rumor about Rubio from draft express:
Oklahoma City the Wild Card

With the top two picks likely falling into place in the form of Blake Griffin and Hasheem Thabeet, all eyes are now on Oklahoma City, to see whether they would take Ricky Rubio or James Harden.

Oklahoma City has already reportedly offered Minnesota to trade the #5 and #6 picks for the #3 selection, where Ricky Rubio is sure to be available for the Timberwolves. Oklahoma City appears to be sending out signals that Rubio is the player they covet at #3, although this could very well be a smokescreen to force Minnesota to trade up if they indeed covet Rubio as much as people think.

Another rumor that is making the rounds is that Oklahoma City may be working on a deal with the New York Knicks that would involve drafting Rubio and then shipping him to the Knicks in July in a sign and trade for David Lee. The tricky part would be coming to terms with Lee on an appropriate contract figure before the pick is made, since technically they are not allowed to negotiate, and Lee likely does not yet know what his true value on the open market.

Still, considering his restricted status, and the fact that there are precious few teams with substantial cap space this summer, Oklahoma City could be a very attractive destination for Lee if his agent can reach a handshake agreement with their front office.

In this scenario, the Knicks would likely select Mike D’Antoni’s favorite, Jordan Hill, with the #8 pick. More on that later.

if that S&T scenario for Rubio involving Lee works out, it'll be a genius play by Donnie Walsh

Lee wants to play in OKC?

if he signs with ny then we can trade him wherever we want and it doesn't matter where he wants to play.

so NY will sign him by Oct. 31st and in December NY will trade him for Rubio?

If David Lee or his agent even suspects that is the case he will take the QO and become an UFA at season's end

Why? Lee wants to get paid. I really don't think he is concerned with going to a winner right now.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

The fact that he wants $10 million per season and not many people will be offering that.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

all that has been stated is Lee wants to remain here.

OKC CAN'T talk about other teams free agents and David Lee has never came out and said he wants to play for them or that he'll chase the almighty dollar over anything else.

at this point trading Lee, an RFA, or any FA for that matter especially for a pick in this years draft is just a bunch of bored reporters with no info cuz teams have went into lockdown mode in final prep for the draft sensationalizing stories

I don't know how many people realize this, but OKC IS a winner. Sure, not last season, but they're an up-and-coming squad; Durant is going to take the league by storm, BY STORM, soon.

David Lee would help make them a winner, for sure.

DLee fits with the Thunder. I wonder if it would just be a Lee-Rubio swap. What else would the Knicks have to pad it with? Chandler? #28? $3M?

if Lee agrees to a trade he gives up his Bird rights.

it would be a S&T so I don't know how Bird rights would matter.

so its back to the question of does Lee want to play for the Thunder and vice versa?
