you are right, Boston is one of the most rascist cities in the north. I do think rascism on a whole is in decline among white people and as these old farts(like imus, my grandfathers generation) die off there will be less of it. It's impossible to completely eradicate it, people will always be ignorant.

it has to do with hatred.


the color of one's skin is just another avenue for it....


just like religion, sexual orientation, status, looks........


basically anything that makes anyone different.

bippity - the article was posted to provide context for Imus' comments not being an exception, but rather the norm for how many people think...

...and to illustrate how most people in this so-called "melting pot" actually live.


and, just for the record, I have NEVER attacked anyone. I may have challenged statements that I feel are not substantiated in any solid reasoning or facts, but I do not resort to "attacks".

I asked a question at 12:27 you answered at 12:51 with a totally reasonable answer. My original response to you about the angry individual contained a which for most people signifies a joke. In response you and I discussed nonsense for 20 minutes when all I asked was the point of your article. What was so hard about answering the question? Why does every discussion with you go in such a roundabout way? Did you assume that I was attacking the article?

MisterEarl: I believe that most of us on this site understand that this Imus talk comes from somewhere. You're preaching to the choir. Racism is everywhere. We agree. My issue is with you sometimes you pull shiot that I feel comes from left field. Instead of judging you and jumping to conclusions I ask the question to get your point of view and understand where you are coming from. You sometimes will spend 24 minutes ignoring, or belittling the original question and in the end I am forced to jump to my own conclusions. Taht you are a bitter old man

When it comes to me , this is wht I mean.

When I go to canada, People don't treat me the same way that they do in WNY.

When I walk into an all white establishment I get no prefrential treatment which is great and I find that I am treated like anyone else in the resturant or store.

I have heard pro atheltes say when they went to canada they didn't treat them like a piece of meat, but treated them like a real human being.


You have to go for yourself, I live 5 min from there and you would be amazed how 5min from america you can be treated so different.


Now I know why slaves went their for refuge and stayed and started a new life.

On a more serious note, race is such a touchy subject, and though I don't have much to say on the topic, it's still understandable how a black person would take offense to what Imus said. I definitely agree he should be fired for something like that. It's on public radio/television, people who watch and listen to that don't go on to hear crap like that. When they turn on Chris Rock on HBO, it's on HBO for that very reason, and the public expects his type of joking around, so while I don't quite condone what he says, it's still more deviant just b/c the audience is expecting nothing less.

On a slightly different note, I read most of this thread, and while I personally think it was a pleasure to read posts from Bippity and Bippity Jr aka Bitty , Blueseats, Nalod, NYNY and others, it's hard not to get into clashes on this subject matter, just because the smallest difference of opinion can be highly offensive to one person, and while it's difficult for me to comprehend (As it is for me to comprehend just about everything) I still respect everyone's opinions, besides the ignorant fools who truely are stereotypical and racist by nature.

When people aren't going jaw to jaw, it's fun as hell for me to read threads such as this, just b/c I love reading about social issues.
