Fishy you are a bad boy!
that may be true but JVG's riding of Camby had a positive influence. Dont take my word for it, Camby said he learned "how to play like a man" under Jeff. The guy walked out on us but considering Layden was his boss I can hardly blame him.

thats a great article from Kerr, and I echo his last sentiments
Hopefully, Curry and the Knicks know what they're doing, and the big man will have a great career – and more importantly – live a long, productive life. But it seems awfully dangerous to gamble on that without taking every precautionary measure.
overall I have no idea at all what to think of this trade.

I loved Sweets and thought he was poised for a breakout year under Larry B. That being said this deal could be a coup. If Curry is healthy this deal is a steal. Sweetney is a nice player but Curry is a 22 year old beast in the making. Easily one of the leagues promising young bigmen. If we made this trade at last year's all star break it would have cost us Sweetney, Ariza and at least 2-3 #1's with no protection (and Briggs still would have laughed... "yea, we are getting Curry")

I just dont know how to calculate or deal with the risk. The fact is the Bulls were so convinced that this test was important they were willing to give him $20mm or 400k/year for 50 years if he FAILED. Doesnt this strike anyone as scary?

Look, I should be thrilled at the prospect of Eddie Curry the player. Rebounding can be taught. JVG turned Camby into one of the league's better bigs on the boards. Go look at the #'s, they dont lie. I have no doubt that these years under LB could and would produce the star that was Curry's promise when he was taken #4 overall. Star centers dont grow on trees. This guy's value goes beyond dollars. When you pair this kind of talent with LB your mixing a potent potion for years to come. Someone that can anchor your franchise for a decade.

So I should be excited, but I'm not. This heart thing bothers me. I just feel like there is a dark cloud hanging over this deal and this team now. I wont even go into the "what if" this guy dies scenarios, but he walked away from an easy lifestyle. $400k for 50 years just to take a test that will prove he's OK or he's at risk ti himself. Does that freak anyone else out? Even if he knew the results were OK and he was just doing this for the money from the Knicks it still doesnt make sense because Chi was going to offer him close to max cash.

I wonder what kind of condition he's in and how he deals with LB's "boot camp"

Fish, I agree with you that it's a tremendous risk, but I mean, you were high on sweetney to the tune of 18ppg and 12rpg. IF you look at Curry through the same rose colored lense, how high can you imagine? Can Curry score 23ppg? 25ppg? can he learn how to use his size to block shots and play defnese? He could easily be a 20ppg 10rpg player in the right system for years. Of course there is a huge risk and I hope the Knicks doctors actually do due dilligence today, but the potential for this trade to give us the big man we've lacked for years is huge. He and Frye have a chance to develop to the point where talking about winning a title isn't laughable. It's a risk, and hopefully both Curry and the Knicks will know to shut it down rather than have a tragedy. But to me, the payoff is high enough to warrant having to shut it down.

To me, Thomas was dead weight and Sweetney was nothing more than a nice bench player. I'd make this trade 9 times out of 10.

I think 400K for 50 years was part PR by the Bulls. For real.

I think it was condescending and disingenuous.

I agree wholeheartedly banking on Sweetney to become something special is a BIGGER risk than banking on Curry being able to play which he will since the doctors have cleared him to play. There was a good chance the 300LB Sweetney wasn't even going to get over 20mins with Rose, taylor & Frye playing ahead of him because he's too much of a liability defensively. Chicago knows this which is why they aren't thrilled about getting Sweetney but are more interested in the picks and the $20mm in expiring contracts. They didn't like Sweetney when his stock was at his best after his rookie year when they didn't want him for Crawford.

sig bitches! kidding, but I had a feeling there was something going on this year, no other reason for LB to sign on, he's not in it for the fun of it, he's in it to teach AND WIN!

OK...so, it's going to take me all day to digest these posts and get a handle on this...some naysayers have bashed me from the board for a while, but now that everyone is back to optimism city (worrying about curry's heart not withstanding) I'd like to welcome myself back to the board.

Bobs..change your sig!

Excellent point, Guns. Looking at the situation from that perspective, we came out even better in this deal than I thought.

Nowadays, Optimism City is where real Knicks fans live! It's where I've been ever since Messiah Thomas got here. Naysayers' voices are nothing but muted silence to me, especially now that we definitely have something to celebrate! I laugh at them instead of wasting my precious time arguing. Time to rejoice!

Sorry to harp in so late, I know this is already been talked about to death so i won't go into specifics about the trade just my feelings. When I heard about the trade this morning I've been dying to post ever since but my Fugazy boss has been constantly over my shoulder all day...

Isiah is a straight Pimp, love him or hate him (and I have been on both sides of the fence) he has come to NY and made things happen. I've read where a couple of people cried well I almost s*** my pants. These last few years have been like bad memories and today someone woke me up out of a basketball coma and I'm alive again. Hopefully these moves start to solidify the Knicks as a team to be dealt with and with a few more pieces we can get to the Promised Land.

I just know all of my friends who hate the Knicks are cringing with this trade because they know I will once again be able to start yapping about how good we will be (you know that word potential is all we need) just to have that feeling makes me misty. Thanks Isiah, and I'll take hot butter on that Popcorn...

I feel the same way. Isiah pimped the hell out of this deal!
As for the Knicks haters, I deal with them the same way I deal with so-called Knicks fan naysayers- put the foot on their necks and apply pressure until you hear the "crack!". Bet those haters on some games and after you pimp their pockets like Isiah did to Paxson! I am planing to bet a Nets fan and a Laker fan this season (like we do every year) and recover some of those lost dollars from the last few years.

so I guess nobody cares or is worried that he refused to take a DNA test and nobody will insure him.

Nobody that pretends to know anything about basketball will tell you that if Curry is healthy this is a bad trade. Its a coup. Its Jermaine Oneil for Dale Davis proportions bad (in favor of us). I like Sweetney and in the right situation will be a hell of a player. He's not Eddie Curry. Not even close.

I guess I'm having a hard time getting excited about a player that was just told by a renowned heart specialist that he should get more information before playing. Its not like Grant Hill or McDyess where the downside is a gimpy player making a ton of cash. The downside is watching a player we love and follow drop dead.

Maybe I am just more sensitive then most, I dont know. Am I just being a sissy? If so just tell me, I can take it! My god, am I a gay robot?

Right now the REAL upside is come hell or high water I wont ever have to see Tim Thomas in a Knick uni again.

This has been an amazing offseason.
We are obviously stacked now.

quick question though about the Curry trade:
Most reports say we sent TT, Sweets, 1st rounder, and 2nd rounder.
With us getting Curry and AD.
But I have also read somewhere that we are also getting picks.
I have had a hard time finding out the actual details.
Can someone clarify this?

Curry's a big boy and can make his own decisions. Imagine you're in your early 20's, a talented ball player, and you're playing in the NBA. You might prefer not to take a test that would result in someone saying you couldn't play ball anymore. You might prefer to take your chances and live out your dream.

I understand what your concern is. All I can suggest is try not to think about it. This is Curry's decision. If he drops dead, we'll know he did so doing what he loved doing.
