I don't like the fact that CC still hasn't decided on our offer. Not looking good. Brian better make CC an offer he can't refuse. On a young Cy Young level pitcher, you do that. And I don't mean just offering 5 or 10% more than other teams offer.

Granted it's not the best sign but you can't expect them to accept their first offer without seeing if any other teams are interested, to get the Yankees to raise their offer. Knowing how badly CC wants to pitch in California I'd give the Yankees a 50/50 chance of signing him. If CC does sign elsewhere, I wouldn't blame Cashman, they came out with a solid offer, if it's not just about money there's not much else they can do.

what would u suggest we offer him? at some point u just have to decide the guy just doesn't wanna play for your team & move on... if we offered him the most money & yet he takes less to go someplace else, u have to start looking at other options... sometimes people can't have everything they want on their Christmas list.

Just heard a little while ago from Gary Apple on SportsNite on SNY that the Angels are preparing an offer in the neighborhood of what the Mets gave Johan ($137 million). Yankees prepared to counter with 7 years/$160 million.

" While they wait for CC Sabathia to decide if $140 million is worth the headaches created by the spotlight that always scorches the Yankees, the club is jazzed about Robinson Cano's new body.

"I was as impressed with what he looks like as I have ever been in my whole life," hitting coach Kevin Long said of Cano yesterday after spending six days last week in the Dominican Republic with the second baseman who led the list of Yankees disappointments last season.

"He hired a personal trainer from New Jersey who is kicking his [butt], and he looks great," Long said. "His body fat is at 11 percent, his stomach is cut."

The Yankees have been concerned about the 6-foot Cano's body weight - listed at 205 pounds - for a while. That, according to Long, shouldn't be a worry.

"He works on hitting and doing agility drills for two hours, rests and goes to the weight room for three hours," Long said of Cano, who enters the second-year of a four-year, $30 million deal. "There isn't a whole lot of heavy lifting. It's more cardio and light weights."

While the Yankees' focus is on signing two free-agent pitchers from the field of A.J. Burnett, Derek Lowe and Sabathia, they are interested in first baseman Mark Teixeira and Orlando Hudson, a second baseman they believe could play center field.

Originally, it was believed their interest in Hudson was a precursor to dealing Cano. However, the Yankees believe the .271 Cano batted a year ago, when manager Joe Girardi removed him from a late-season game for not hustling, was an aberration. Instead, they point to the .346 he batted in 122 games in 206, and to the .306 he hit in 2007. "

if the Angels get CC then i think the Yanks are gonna throw a boatload of cash at Mark Tex & try to sign AJB, Lowe & Andy P.

It's not that simple. If you take into account cost of living, no other offer beats the offer in the $100 mil range Mil gave him.

I think robinson cano is a bum.....he's getting into shape? why isn't he working with his boy melky.

I never thought being out of shape was the problem for Cano.

I never wanted CC and I still don't want him. Besides the fact that he has a 7.92 postseason ERA in 5 starts; he's fat, I'm worried about his arm and the guy doesn't want to play here. Never wanted him and I certainly don't want to see the Yankees give him 160. What a terrible decision.

Yeah, I kind of feel that same way about this move. A buck-sixty is quite a leap. I say we can get two quality pitchers for the same price. Or one very good starter and great middle man.
