This is scary, because sweets is pretty quick now, he just needs stamina and more hops (both come with losing weight)

Without conceding my idiocy, I would like to declare my support for the trade for Mo Taylor. I fully reserve my right to have my idiocy confirmed separate and apart from my support for the Mo Taylor trade. It is my belief that Mo Taylor has far more offensive game than any current PF on our roster. His defense is lacking, though we have defensive PFs in surplus. Furthermore, he is a reclamation project of the sort that Isiah Thomas likes. Although reclamation projects like Vin Baker have not benefitted us, I believe that the potential gain far exceeds any cost we gave up in that trade. Mo Taylor's salary should not be a major sticking point since we had the opportunity to cut him and save those luxury tax dollars, but chose to cut a defensive SF/PF and fan favorite in JYD instead. As such, the offensive ability and reclamation potential that Mo Taylor provides in exchange for the failed reclamation project in Baker and the then obsolete Moochie Norris makes the Mo Taylor trade suitable in my book. Additionally, the cleared roster spot allowed us to sign Butler, who is a big man that Mark Aguirre can work with and has at least some potential to be a regular in the NBA.

You know cutting people of the team is not getting rid of them, they are still on the cap. If we don't care about the cap, then I guess who cares if we traded for Mo Taylor or not.

During the time of the trade I was still holding on against hope that at some point financial sanity will set it in and we will try to get under the cap. But looks IT is really sticking to his guns on this we dont' care about no stinkin cap philosophy, but just look where it got Sather and the Rangers. It took them like 3 years before Sather finally realized that he was wrong.

I just hope we are not heading down the same road, 2-3 more years of just missing the playoffs and constant restacking with over the hill washed up veterans.

Given the team's history, why would you ever think there was a chance they had any intentions of getting under the cap?

In this case, there's little difference for the cap between trading JYD and waiving him. It's highly unlikely that any team would give up an expiring contract for JYD (even more so now that he reportedly has a significant injury). If you traded JYD you'd be taking back a player with the same number of years or more years remaining on his contract than JYD has. The impact on future payroll would be the same as or worse than waiving JYD.

I'm not going ot read all 8 paged of this thread...
but how can that much angst be devoted to this topic??

The Positive:

We freed up a roster spot and acquired the best player in that trade.

The Negative:

To acquire this veteran post scorer, we also had to give up a 2nd round pick.

The verdict?

Anyone's guess right now.
This 'idiot' isn't going to jump to the same conclusion as simrud's guess.

I can't really say I liked the trade, but I was surprised to see so many people upset at losing a second round pick. It's not as if Taylor's contract was the one that put us over the salary cap.
