Yes, as I reported, the best single game performance by a guard in SL this year.

If he played like this all the time we'd be buzzing about him quite a bit, because it was a very impressive game for him and he demonstrated qualities we'd always need like handle, creativity, spacing, awareness and efficient scoring.

But due to our roster situation and it being only one game, I'd assume he'd need to have a historically huge game tonight to even be in any conversations about making the club.

Therefore, unless he blows peoples' minds tonight, he is still a Westchester player this year if he doesn't get picked up by someone else (which wouldn't shock me considering how good he looked yesterday).

I don’t know if we have the time or patience but he’s still a kid

There is certainly his contract numbers and the stupid second apron but I don't know why the Knicks wouldn't have time or the patience unless they need to make a bigger move that would involve his salary or roster spot?

It's not like there is a rotation spot that Dadiet would need to fill right now unless there is some major injuries? With Deuce, Shamet, Clarkson, Mo ahead of Dadiet within the wing rotation, I don't know how he gets minutes even in the upcoming year. And those are just he bench guys without Kolek and GTA.

I legit do not understand the remarks that Knicks need to move on from Dadiet in the "now" timeframe based off of what we have seen in either the GL or SL or garbage time. IMHO you can only tell so much and it's so limited to be worthless unless you do very very well, and even then it's not really a good benchmark.

100%. We are very deep and don't need him to contribute. He's got length and shows some fluidity and skills. Whether it's confidence (i.e., lack of it) or being deferential to the older guys I can't tell. Personally, I think we should keep him and coaches should be urging him the best way to help the team is to shoot. IF he doesn't and defers too much the opponent will sag etc and make life more difficult for his teammates. Trust his stuff. Don't log into UK etc.

What matters is not whether Dadiet is a factor this year, though in his third year I think he should be, but does the FO think his potential contributions in 2027-2028 will be worth picking up the $5,373,608 team option year next season.

He's paid $2,983,680 this season, but if he's not going to be worth it to them at the higher price tag next year then why keep him around at the current price tag.

That's the real question here.

Ya the option due to be picked up in Oct will be the big tell. May still need to pick it up for trade purposes if he is good enough anyway.

Dadiet is a very sloppy player.

Started off the game with some good aggression driving and scoring early, but every drive since has been out of control resulting in being blocked twice.

He also leaves his feet and tries to pass the ball without a clue. Done it multiple times. Terrible habit.

His outside shot selection has been awful, shooting clankers and airballs.

Dadiet's game is completely random. There is nothing adding up for me.

watched a good part of this game. call me a masochist

I have often said that in SL it's more important to learn than win. I think I learned most of our SL roster is not NBA quality and never will be.

Dadiet is an enigma as has been said. I think Josh Hart needs to talk to him about how to get rev'd up and play w energy. He does seem lost right now. He does have size and has flashes (good and bad)

Nickel and Kayil show real promise. Robbins has some offense but seems way too far away on defense and rebounding. for several of these guys, I was thinking "I can take him". Believe me, I know I can't, but for me to think that says how far they are from NBA.

announcers were calling Dillon jones a pg, which is probably news to Dillon. was for me. He would win the turnover award normally but we have 2 or 3 other guys who would smoke him

then there was the guy that looked like they grabbed from a game of hacky-sack in the park, or from filming a lord of the rings prequel. holy smokes this guy got serious court time ahead of 5 or 6 others -- one can only wonder.

Nickel didn’t shoot particularly well but we know what he can do. His role in the nba will be easier. He will get open shots, which he didn’t the last couple summer league games.

Robbins has intrigued me. He does just enough on both ends to be interesting.

Not sure what happened to Kayil tonight. We may have seen the last of him for awhile.

Dadiet just isnt it.

Yeah, Rat Boy with the face mask was a sight to behold

Today Nickel made multiple quality passes off the dribble. Also, his range is the 3 point line. He does not have infinite range, but when his feet set he's going to score. Put him on the main club and break him in now.

Kayil left me with no distinct impression. I'm perfectly fine with stashing him for a year and bringing him back next SL. He's good enough at most things to merit continued monitoring, but not good enough to take up a slot this year. My favorite thing about him was several PnR and pocket slip passes that showed true PG potential. Still, he's a project.

Two-Time NBA Champion Dillon Jones is still not an NBA player.

Dadiet scored today and had a better second half because he made less mistakes than the first half. His box score looks good. All that tells me is if he had a consistent motor he might actually be a good NBA player. But this is SL and he was inconsistent in his effort or focus. The size and talent is there, but he seems like a very casual kid and that is not going to cut it. Clock will run out on him soon if he doesn't impose his will on the floor more.

Robbins is a good basketball player. I don't think he needs to be fast. He beat the defenders down the floor to receive an outlet pass and get an easy bucket. It is more important that he knows where to be on the floor on both ends and he mostly makes the right decisions most of the time. He's a big kid, will get you a block or two, make some good assists, get a couple of garbage buckets and the occasional jumper or hook shot. I'd keep him in the organization and if nobody materializes as the 3rd string backup center have Robbins on standby.

Sellers is a very quick kid, but he didn't make his mark this time. Maybe a good Westchester player to see if he can develop.

Akins was the guard with the most dynamic bag on the team in SL, even if he only showed out yesterday and had a few moments today. Could have backup SG or 6th man potential in a year or two. Westchester would give him an extended audition.

Jourdain is a journeyman looking guy who actually made quite a few good defensive plays the last two games and had some opportunistic buckets. But I don't see any path for him.

SUMMARY: I saw two new NBA players this SL: Nickel and Robbins, one enigma player in Dadiet (i.e. does he want to be an NBA player?), one player who raised concerns (Diawara) and maybe a couple of players to check in on in a year (Kayil and Akins). That's it. Nothing spectacular. We were not competitive, pretty scrubby overall.

RESULT: One new player for the rotation and fresh questions about Diawara's development path and Dadiet's mindset.

His father, Eric Nickel, grew up on Long Island, played college basketball at SUNY Plattsburgh, and has worked for years as a collegiate recreation director. His mother, Jacki Nickel, is a lifelong educator who has worked in administration for the Virginia Department of Education and as adjunct faculty at James Madison University.

Now, I get it, that kid opens his mouth and he looks like a cracker but talks like he from the hood.
Its confusing but thats not Appalacian hillbilly country. Thats Shendandoah valley and James Madison is not a podunk community college.

He was All ACC academic his freshman year at UNC-Chapel hill. A year and Virginia Tech then two at Vanderbilt!
Where he learned to talk like that?

A childhood friend from Manhattan UWS was your basic normal white kid in NYC. His grandpa was a famous folksinger. His stepdad was an anchor on the nightly news in the city.

I moved away and when I saw him 15 years later at a nightclub, he was in a tracksuit with corn rows and gold teeth caps. He into the hip hop scene and organized shows. Talked like a Jamaican gangsta with marbles in his mouth. That was something.
