I think there’s a 60M elephant in the room that everyone knows is a team defense killer

Kat is horrible no doubt but can’t single him out as Brunson was destroyed by anyone he got close to. Hart was brutal and OG was destroyed.

Hell even with Kat on the bench we had Mitch/OG/Mikal continuing to leave Turner wide open at the basket off simple high screen action.

If OG isn’t going to score he can’t get destroyed on D —- yuck.

I'll second the call to not single out KAT. Indy has Haliburton who sucks at D. Issue is they are exposing KAT better than we are at exposing Haliburton. The answer is to not expect KAT to turn into Bill Russel, but to run more plays for him so he can use his offensive gifts and get the other team in foul trouble. My suggestion FWIW is heavy dose of KAT especially early in game, and move the frigging ball around

Defense was good for much of the game and exceptional for portions.

Nah it’s not a KAT thing solely it’s a starting lineup thing. The data since January is irrefutable and now the masses are seeing it in blatant fashion in this series. KAT has a role on this team but we can’t let this starting lineup dig holes every night and continue to advance.

Notice how we came back double digits in almost every Pistons win? Came back from 20, 20, and 14 against Boston? Well that magic runs out eventually. Can’t keep digging holes. And it’s the starters, every single time.

that was a huge surprise. I would have thought they wouldn't even feed Siakam that much. But he took whatever the defense gave him

My hope is the Knicks focus on guarding all 5 guys because if they adjust to plug the Siakam hole, I fear the Nembard, or NEsmth or Hali hole will open

If we play a solid, balanced game I still think we're the better team. We have two all NBA guys, with the other starters being Bridges Hart and OG who are all damn good. We need to punish them with our starting 5 more.

At this point I'd accept the starting 5 simply being above water...

It's not only that. We get Kat to play with spacing. Yet we legit never actually do it. Why the hell get Kat to never use him the way we should to make thing easy for Brunson. Thibs has been a coaching anchor for years. iHart covered up his bad coaching last season. Now its back on full display.

Yes very frustrating but I'm not thinking it's because of the players as much as what they're doing. KAT and Brunson are exceptionally talented offensive players. I don't have the answers but we need a better way to hide them on D

Maybe a poor analogy since they're out of the playoffs, but Cavs had a puny backcourt that is not good defensively and they had the best record in the East. Celtics had a number of defenders that on any other team wouldn't even see the floor because of their individual deficiencies yet they were a top defensive team.

Somehow our guys get exposed -- which is frustrating enough, but we don't exploit their talents to the fullest on the other end.

If Thibs wanted my advice we'd run double bigs. they'd have to probably use Turner or some scrub on Mitch and KAT should be able to eat up whoever is left. Brunson should be the second option until late in the the clock or late in the game. KAT is a better passer than Brunson, and other guys need to touch the ball. We're making it too easy on them just camping out and watching JB consume the 18 seconds of shot clock

Look what the Pacers did to the Cavs. Windhorst said after the last game that the Pacers came back to win the game (I forget the time frame) three times in a row. And no other team in NBA playoff history had ever done it more than twice in a row. Pacers are no joke.

I blame Gustav for this loss.

Doesn’t explain inability to guard simple high screen action.

One explanation is Thibs absolutely refused to ever switch screen - staying with drop 100% of time. Then we get to playoffs and he starts switching BUT we never worked thru this all season (or ever).

I’m not sure what is so hard about switching but it seemed on some action we dropped, on some we switched and on some we guarded nobody.

Once Indy realized we were switching, Brunson and KAT become our primary defenders on odd matchups. I won’t accept hitting KAT on defense without accepting that Brunson is just as bad. You can say the defense can’t handle two so KAT has to go. But the play of this team needs a kick in the ass regardless. It’s just sloppy basketball. Missing free throws. Turnovers. Missed assignments. We have the better top 7. They are just getting outplayed and outcoached.

Right - they were targeting our switches with Kat/Jalen and while I thought Kat held up sometimes Jalen was killed at every point.

That said it wasn’t those switches that killed us it was all the mind boggling missed assignments, OG getting torched and I’ll even throw TJ McConnell came back again out of the grave to kill us.

OUCH - it sure feels like this watching. I’m yelling get Hart out of here or get Mitch in.

Also thought he ran Mitch too long in 1st half - he looked gassed / dead second half.

Yep, 16 straight minutes. Deuce probably needs to start and then Mitch needs earlier mins so he can rest in between two stints per half. Don’t think starting double bigs is the answer in this series.

Asking for a friend — anyone interested in Giannis in package built around Kat/OG?

Too soon?

Even Replacing Hart with Precious would help our overall D and rim protection and moves Miakl to 2 and OG to 3.

Hart hasn’t performed well most of the year despite some good looking career #s and he doesn’t offset any Kat weakness.

Basically we don’t look so good.

No, but if you didn't expect one of their scrubs to have a career night, I don't know what team you've been watching all these years.

Instead of adjusting he stuck by the one of the worse and most played lineups since they been tracking this kind of data.

They probably blew a very achievable path to the finals. They beat the champions. The pacers are not that good. I'm not sure we're gonna have healthy kat and og every year.

Honestly, OG has been a huge disappointment this series.

Overall, for however great he is in wins, he is a disappearing act in losses. He asked for his contract and it’s showing he is far from fully earning it. Something is wrong with him that makes him so inconsistent. But then again, same can be said about Mikal and KAT.

This team has been either world beaters or a freaking mess with nothing in between, and it seems that all their terrible act is coming up in this series. What a freaking disappointment! I’m so tired of their unpredictable act. Really, really tired of it.

Nope, it’s the Knicks who are a joke.

I hated how the media focused so much on the Game 1 collapse because the Pacers played like they were in NBA Live and had so many lucky bounces, but was really hoping the Knicks would come out with fire, showing it was just a blip and they were focused on getting the win. But this one, THIS GAME was the real embarrassment. You lose like that Game 1 and then you don’t fight back Game 2? You let everyone know you really lost the series in Game 1. Horrible. Embarrassing. This team, for all their issues on the roster, has an even bigger problem mentally and with focus. That’s why I have been so down on the coaching staff even in better moments. We seem to show our potential for greatness but only for spurts. Then we revert back to not knowing wtf we are doing and just being an embarrassment.

What a horrible disappointment. I’m really tired of Thibs and Co.
