Through all the “Knicks Must Get Carmelo Anthony NOW NOW NOW” nonsense that has been steadily building to a crescendo over the past week, it seems that no one has addressed the one main issue that would have everyone take a breath, think this thing through and then just chill out:

Just where the hell else is Melo going to go??

And I don’t mean for the next three months, I mean for the next three seasons if not more. There’s no massive bidding war from a bunch of teams that Anthony would gladly play for. There are only two (count ‘em TWO) teams that Melo has said he would sign long-term with, the Knicks and Chicago. And the Bulls, the only other credible threat to getting him long term, are humming along quite nicely right now and barely seem to be interested. That might change as we reach the deadline but they’re not even in the mix right now. So, that leaves the Knicks and….the Knicks.

Then it will be about Denver finally getting real and taking a slightly more reasonable package from the Knicks. We'll give up a lot, just not as much as they were asking.

Ever the optomist. Never change!

I was more pessimistic earlier in the year, but now I think it's all played out and the Nuggets are running out of options and time. Melo and his Agent are close to sealing the deal on getting everything they want. The money, the team and all that comes with it. Why not push even harder to force the hand of the Nuggets and get them to make a deal with NY? It's that easy for them. His agent picks up the phone and says it's NY or nothing and the deal is done within an hour. No more games and no other options for Denver.

Totally agree...I wonder why they haven't done this...Tell you what, if I'm Amar'e, I'm a little upset Melo's not playing it like this..

Carmelo Needs New York More Than The Knicks Need Carmelo

Overheard in the Dolan/ Walsh on speakerphone Meeting (Guarantee: All Dialogue Reported Verbatum)

10) Walsh: "Earl Monroe turned down your request for his uniform number."

9) Dolan: "Meet Landry Fields. In three years he will be averaging a double double in his sleep."

8) Houston: "We have LaLa booked on the February 27 taping of "The View". Think she will like that?"

7) Houston: "If people cheered Spree from the first game in NYC, how much do you think the MSG crowd will respond if your hit your first shot?"

6) Walsh: "One more thing, make absolutely certain you hit your first shot in The Garden."

5) Dolan: "The 2012 Garden renovations coincide with your new locker, with a private interview area"

4) Walsh: "An appearance on David Letterman is seen by an average of 3.91 million viewers. You do the math."

3) Dolan: "We have Amar’e Stoudemire. Is making a few clutch fourth quarter shots too much to ask?"

2) Houston: "The Knicks are headed to playoffs on the world's brightest stage. In early April, Denver will be buried in 18 inches of snow."

1) Walsh: "you ever been to the Pine Barrens?"

The only reason teams continue to talk to them is because they have a top ten player who is available.

They should be able to unload Nene and JR Smith for decent pieces, but I'm sure they're being just as unreasonable.

Cant blame Denver for wanting a pie in the sky. The problem is Melo doesnt want to sign in NJ. THATS why the Nets pulled out.

If your Denver why not look to rob someone?

Its all just a game.. however if Melo isnt traded at the deadline you KNOW Denver really screwed up because he's NOT staying there.

Players leaving is an issue. Its happens. A good GM will have some foresight and get something. Maybe not equal value but something.

I dont blame Pho for keeping Amare. They were having an amazing 2nd half and there was cause to let it ride. Bosh? That guy was gone and everyone knew... They could have gotten a good package for him. Hopefully Denver understands that the sting of Amare, Bosh, Lebron departures can and will happen to them. They are looking at a 38-40 win tean at best next year with a 36 year old point guard. They are PHUCKED if they dont get a couple decent young guys. Getting Fields and Chandler would accomplish that

Amare in PHO was not about money but about years (and the money of course!)

I read a good piece that said "people don't move from Miami to CLEV", ownership messed up. Dude is writing a book on Lebron. Everyone knew He was leaving! (Chris Rock is quoted in piece)

I won't predict anything but since its gone this far I'll adjust my odds:

Knicks 33%
Nets 10%
Other 10%
Nuggs 50%

Not a stretch here. So the Favorite remains is he keeps the money and gets LA LA her own Jet and tells her "sorry hun"!

It was mainly about having an insured contract. Amar'e said it himself. He said if he got even the slightest of inuries to something not even pertaining to his knees, the sons could void the contract. There's obviously two sides the the story, but until the Suns can speak about this, I would say you have to go by that.

If Anthony says yes, the Nets will get Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Sheldon Williams, Melvin Ely and Renaldo Balkman from the Nuggets. In turn, the Nets will send Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy, Ben Uzoh and four first-round picks to Denver.

The Nets won’t do the trade unless Anthony agrees to the extension. They’re expected to meet with him during this All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles to try and convince him to join them.

The Carmelo Anthony soap opera is a classic example of how the New York press works to create a significant distraction. As a result of the daily speculation, that dates back over a year, basketball takes a backseat to rumor and assumption. The story of one man is enough to overshadow the progress a young team has made.

Forget the leadership and drive to win, trade Felton.

Forget the consistent play and increased productivity of a 6'8 24o pound warrior, trade Chandler.

Forget the ferocious spirit and daring to the hoop of a virtual sophomore, trade Gallinari.

Forget the value of a gifted, previously named 6'11 center from Lithuania who is well within reach in the the first round, trade the pick.

Forget guys trying to ignore the same juicy headlines from the same firing squad that gathers around their lockers every night for interviews, win or lose.

Forget the camaraderie, esprit de corps, bonding, "hello my name is..." or however you define chemistry, trade four rotation players.

Forget making the Knicks immediately better.

The sinking feeling can be best described by a classic reggae tune by Max Romeo:

"One step forward, two steps backward"

Dude. You are replacing Chandler and gallo with melo. Shawne Williams is still on the team. Fields is still on the team. Douglas, mozgov and turiaf. Your starters are billups, fields, melo, amare, mozgov with a bench of shawne, Douglas and turiaf.

We would pass Atlanta and Orlando immediately.

I love gallo, but as a syracuse fan that watched melo bring them their first title as a freshman, I would have a new favorite Knicks.

I see your mayor and raise you a mozgov'ner.

Let's go Knicks. That's amare

Dude. this ain't The Big East.

Trading away Gallo only creates the distraction of a another juicy subplot. The perceived rift between D'Antoni and Walsh.

He is NOT Kareem

"So now James Dolan, who promised Donnie Walsh autonomy the day he hired him, takes over the Anthony negotiations, desperate as always to look like a big guy in sports. This is the same Dolan who used to wonder why Travis Knight wasn't getting more playing time. Here is all you need to know about Dolan:

Everything he thinks he knows about how the Knicks should be run he learned from Isiah Thomas, who broke in here by giving away the store for Stephon Marbury. But then Dolan actually believes that Isiah had something to do with the Knicks getting Stoudemire and actually believes that Isiah could have gotten LeBron if he'd gotten involved in those negotiations sooner."

Do the Knicks REALLY want to give up the most assets in the history of the NBA for Carmelo?

If the deal is Gallo, Chandler, Felton, Curry's contract, and a number 1 for Melo, Billups, and Anthony Carter..

Melo > Gallo.
Billups = Felton

Chandler won't be a Knick in 2012 anyways, and who really cares about Curry's contract and the number 1?

KnickFanPete - with only 28 games remaining, please do not consider the playoffs a guarantee.

Would you care about the number one pick if said selection turned into an all star in three years?

You know you would.

with Melo and Amare, we're making the playoffs. if we stand pat, we're making the playoffs. The Eastern Conference blows, and we're in the top 8, come hell or high water.

The number one pick could also be the quality of studs like Michael Sweetney, Freddie Weis, or Kenny Sky Walker. Doing the abovementioned deal gives you two superstars in their prime while maintaining the ability to make a move for Deron/CP3 in a couple offseasons. There are positives to doing this deal, negatives too.

KnickFanPete - Carmelo is NOT a superstar.

Kobe is a superstar. Lebron is a superstar. Carmelo Anthony is a volume shooter on a mediocre team that has never won anything. He shoots a lesser percentage (.452) than Wilson Chandler (.461) from the field. At .351 Chandler is also better from three point range with Carmelo at .333. The difference? The Mayor (712 attempts) has not earned the creative license to hoist (967 attempts) like Carmelo.

Keep the first round selection and stay young for years to come.

Stop the madness.
