Walsh would not commit to taking a guard, but did talk a lot about Jrue Holiday’s
ability to defend and to play at a fast pace, which is the biggest thing he’s looking for, not necessarily one who can score. We’ve been talking about Holiday’s two-way ability since January when he wasn’t on anyone’s radar, and it appears that Walsh loves the kid out of UCLA. He even went as far as to say that his first workout, he’s here today, was very good, and that he shouldn’t have been dejected.

Walsh thinks Rubio and Thabeet could slide down..

http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/59974/20090622/walsh_thinks_rubio_thabeet_could_slip/
Donnie Walsh sees an unsettled draft after Blake Griffin is chosen as the top pick, and thinks Ricky Rubio and Hasheem Thabeet could even fall past the first four selections on Thursday.

"I'm not confident they would be in the top four," Walsh said. Was he saying that these two prospects will slide? "It's possible," Walsh said. "I'm not saying it's going to happen."

Walsh said the Knicks have had conversations about moving up in the draft but such a trade, if it happens, may not come down until draft day.

"Of course we've had conversations, but I don't know if we're going to be able to do that," Walsh said.

The Knicks could also trade down and pick up Ty Lawson later in the draft.

Knicks pick Evans before Flynn

I think Boeheim talked up Flynn to at Team USA practice but I wouldn't be surprised if Evans got selected

Dave Berri, known for his book, "Wages of Wins" analyzed the top ncaa point guards with his system and had Lawson rated the highest and Flynn rated the lowest.

simmons asks ford on his show of all the teams that "has to make a move in the draft" he says...

the knicks...

"i don't know where the knicks are going right now."

"they're in limbo right now"

simmons then proposes a trade...

curry, jeffries and the 8 pick for shaq

ford says if it was a better draft that phx might do it in part because "the 8 pick this year is about the equivalent as the 18th pick in a normal draft."

he asks, "jrue holiday? brandon jennings? demar derozan? i'm not sure if any of these players are going to be anything in the league. they might be."

simmons and ford also hail rubio, and rail on memphis over what they did with gasol (ford says it was the owner and not the gm, but this makes him feel a need to win every deal immediately) saying that this has effectively ruined their shot at rubio wanting to play there. they say if you ask him if rubio would have dropped months ago, he would have said no way. he also railed on the kings for thinking evans was a better pick.

he said just what i think about evans...that he will not be a pg in the nba.

rubio he says has the intangibles, that you can't see on paper, and the idea that he is not "ready" is silly. simmons basically agrees, and apparently he is usually an anti-international player guy.

ford also says fans are a lot more knowledgeable about prospects than before with the internet, and it creates consensus picks being more powerful than before.

"i feel bad for the knicks a little bit...unfortunately, knicks fans, i don't think you're going to see stephon curry wear a knicks uniform this year." - ford

they also talk about how fans are much more knowledgeable with the internet and is affecting the draft, and way guys can't really sneak or drop as easily.

they say that the kandiman pick would never be made today...

ford then says this is what is affecting thabeet dropping.

"this is the worst draft in 9 years" - simmons

knicks with thabeet at 8 isn't so bad - simmons

ford not feeling the way knicks fans would treat thabeet

both agree flynn may be the most popular pick (accepted by knick fans) after curry as the knicks pick.

My excitement for the draft somewhat subsided with the Minny/Wash trade. I really see it as a shining example of what other teams can offer that we can't. I think that a deal with Memphis is still possible, but I would think it would involve David Lee accepting a sign and trade (that he rejected last year) after the July Moratorium has passed (i.e. after July 10). Other than that, I could see using Mobley as the bargaining piece to get another draft pick, but it doesn't sound as though economics is pushing this draft as much as the beat writers said it would.

Guess we will find out tomorrow night.
You know I gonna spin wit it

It would excite me if the Knicks traded the #8 and got picks in next years draft. From what I have heard so far this one is not all that exciting and next years is supposed to be better (I will admit I dont have much to base this on). But I do know that we dont have a pick next year and that good teams find a way of stockpiling picks, trading the #8 or some players would be a great way to do this. Either way, we need to get more future picks.

We'll worry about that later on. Remember either/both Lee or/and Nate can be used in sign-and-trades that might net us picks for next season. There will be solid talent to pick at #8th so the Knicks will probably use it. Donnie is not only focused on getting us in a nice position for 2010, but also to make us reach the playoffs next season and I believe he can if he uses his assets the right way.

True, I wasn't even thinking about Lee and Nate - good call. I am a little more excited for this draft now, especially since we got another pick.

i would love for the Knicks to trade Lee & Nate for picks in 2010 but up to date the moves they've made have seemed to be focused on cap reducing maneuvers while bringing in veteran stopgap fillers w/expiring contracts... i would be surprised to see Lee & Nate go in any moves for picks at this point, they'd probably look to make a deal for someone like Chris Bosh or Amare instead, which wouldn't be bad either.

Nate would be a top 5 pick in this draft trade down or trade it for a chance at a lottery pick next year
