imho, when jeter's deal is done, he's gonna retire...

It's gonna be close.. he's got close to 500 hits to get and what 3 years to do it? If he declines sharply, it could be close.

How fitting Dunn will be out #3 to close out USAs WBC. This dude is a perennial loser.

Watching Jeter in this WBC.. it's pretty evident he's lost a TON of range. I hate to say it but he could be a huge detriment for us this year at SS

u gotta wonder if the guy will demand a huge contract extension after this season... i mean he's the face of the franchise & of major league baseball pretty much... i can't imagine how he wouldn't, & it's gonna be a big contract for an aging past his prime player to take on for the longterm from the Yankees' perspective, but they really have no choice in the matter... u can't let ur future HOF guy leave before hitting #3000 in a Yankees uniform... but then, the Yankees did let Babe Ruth go, so i guess u can never say never.

Definitely agree DJ. Ownership is stuck between a rock and a hard place with Jeter. One positive is that Jeter has seemed receptive to moving positions - I think he would do pretty well in CF. Either way the Yanks can't let him walk, they'll have to pay him.

Jeter would be volunteering to play some 3rd right now if he was really receptive. I don't think he'll ever be moving. And I think he's really falling off skill wise right now.

Don't disagree with you but who would be playing short? Pena?

ain't no way Jeter's moving... he's too proudful to believe that there's anyone who can do better than him at SS... that's his spot for him... the spot he's wanted his whole life... i just hope he doesn't end up being another MJ & Favre story, trying to hang on to past glory way past the point that he needs to

I guess Berrora would work pretty well there too.

Pena is my first choice, but Berroa works too. Both would probably be better than having Ransom play a lot, b/c we'd at least be significantly better defensively.

Berroa's garbage... hardly an upgrade over Wilson Betemit if he even is one... Pena can't hit either... SS is gonna be Jeter's spot for the next few years unless the Yankees make some kinda earthshattering move to trade for an upgrade at the position.

Neither is a long term solution- but for the first month of the season or so- I would take Pena or Berroa's defense since they'll probably hit as much as Cody Ransom anyway.

i'm a little confused... i thought the point was that you'd prefer Pena or Berroa's defense over Jeter's at SS to start off the year? what does Cody Ransom have to do with this?

The idea is Jeter would move to third temporarily. We're better off doing this than having Jeter and Ransom at SS and third respectively b/c the hitting should be about the same, but the defense would be a significant upgrade.

These asians really play good fundamental baseball.

Ichiro lays down a perfect bunt to put runners on 1st and 3rd with nobody out in a 1-1 game in the 7th inning.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

Wow, nicely turned 5-4-3 double play by Korea to end the inning and keep another run from scoring.
