Zach doesn't become a FA until the year after the bigname FAs hit the open market... there is no realistic shot of getting under the cap before then unless we dump his contract somehow.
but at least we'll have a shot at a 34yo Vince Carter, 34yo Paul Pierce & a 35yo Chauncey Billups the year after, so there's the silver lining... or we can go after the awesome talents of guys like Joel Pryzbilla & Troy Murphy when we finally have cap space after the '10/'11 season.
of course we could also simply resign our '20yo 20 & 10 C' to another contract extension so he can retire a Knick & have that #50 raised up into the MSG rafters where it belongs.
guys, the only big names comparable to potential FA's like Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Amare & Dirk the year after those guys all have opt outs are Yao Ming, Melo & Tony Parker... who would you guys rather have a shot to at least try & target when they become FA's?
