typical stupid Knicks move - tampering with George McGinnis and, as the penalty, losing first round pick Lonnie Shelton as compensation to the Sonics

"you could look it up" - Yogi Berra (or was it Casey?)

losing a 1st round draft pick - eddy curry
''We don't have the luxury to take anybody lightly,'' New York's Quentin Richardson said. ''We're not that good.''

try 2 - trading away two first round picks for Erick Strickland

( In 2000, the Knicks drafted Donyell Harvey in the first round, whom they traded for Erick Strickland to join a crowded backcourt. The Knicks then turned around a year later and dealt Strickland, along with another first rounder in the Othella Harriington trade)

trading away two first round picks for Erick Strickland - trading Rod Strickland for Mo Cheeks, who was then the walking dead

(If he had stayed, Rod Strickland may have been able to help Ewing win a championship)

That's really more like trading 2 first rounders for Othella Harrington then, isnt it?

trading Rod Strickland for Mo Cheeks, who was then the walking dead - Howard Komives and Walt Bellamy to Detroit for Dave DeBusschere.

"It is hard to fault Layden, because he inherited a team that is virtually unchangeable. The Knicks are millions of dollars over the salary cap and have only a $2.25 million midlevel exception to offer free agents. That puts them in the bind of having to make outright trades or sign-and-trade deals. Making one of those is difficult, because the only players that teams find attractive are Latrell Sprewell and Allan Houston, and wisely, the Knicks will only part with them if superstars are coming in return."
