considering the Milwaukee Bucks donated $500,000 you have to believe that report of walmart and microsoft donating only 1-2mm is erraneous. $15mil sounds more right

Baraba Bush's past racist comments are already fairly well documented. So reading that she said something like this doesn't really surprise me at all. Old hag actually thinks it's funny.
I'd rather it come out in the open, rather than it be behind closed doors.

I guess Dubya learned how not to care about Black people from his mother.

Good post, Rich.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Seriously man! I mean, what kinda person says something like
"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this (she chuckled)--this is working very well for them."
Is this really happening?

What's so bad about pointing out the obvious--some people got the hell out of NO before all hell broke loose, made it to Texas--now they have a new opportunity. Oh no, Barbara Bush is a racist. You take the slight chuckling thing as if she is mocking them, maybe she's actually happy for them, oh wait, her last name is Bush, she must be evil.

How far will you go? When someone says, "so many of them were underprivilaged" and chuckles at something like them being better off in an arena, she is absolutely mocking them. She may not be only is she racist, she is out of touch with reality. You cannot make light of a situation where people lose their house's and are forced to camp in a stadium! But oh wait, they are the Bush's they cannot do anything wrong anyway!

I hate to say this but I would bet the Astrodome is alot cleaner and alot safer than where many of the "refugees" came from. Unfortunately.

And that makes it ok to laugh at them having to live in a stadium instead of their house?

dude - i can't believe how you keep digging yourself in deeper and deeper

how about trying spending a night in a stadium somewhere and then reporting back on the luxury and splendor of it?

Who said it was luxurious? I'm saying it's cleaner and safer than where many of the refugees came from. You act like everyone was a homeowner with a white picket fence.

Besides equipment and expertise, the companies also are donating cash. Microsoft and Intel have pledged $1 million each to relief organizations and are matching their employees' contributions.

"As a U.S.-based corporation, we must go above and beyond in order to help the thousands who have been affected by this tragedy," said Intel CEO Paul Otellini.

I don't know how much you understand the markets, but Microsoft actually gave a one-time dividend of 3$ a share [ 32 BILLION] last year to shareholders because they had a cash hoard of 56B, in addition to a 30 B $ stock buyback. Thats just the rich paying the rich. We are not talking 10 million--they gave back[98% of which were financial institutions that already had mega million/billion dollar values anyway} 32 BILLION and cut dilution of their stock by 30B--that measn they spent 62B to prop their own stock off, so they can continue to sell their own personal stock into the market.
Sorry 1mm $ cash contribution and some inventory is a btch slap in the face. Bill Gates is a true capitalist pig, if it wasnt for his wife, he wouldve never given away a dime. He lauds China, actually wa supposed to have the PRESIDENT of China[well the highest ranking official in China] at his house this week BEFORe he was to meet with Bush[then the flood wiped it out] Baddest man on the planet--the 5-10 150 pound Bill Gates. But to get back to my point, they couldve given a few BILLION and never felt a ruffle in the water. Microsoft giving 1mm is like me or you giving a penny.

Think about it. Even if this is true for 50% of the people there (which it cannot be with 500 to 1000 hungry and sick people sharing a stadium) would it be right to "chuckle" at after what they have been through?

No, not unless she was truly happy for them--and if they were happy and grateful themselves.

Happy enough for them being safe or having a clean place (once again which is not possible when you are sharing a stadium with a 1000 hungry or sick people) and make a sarcastic comment about it? You really think anyone that has lost a house would be happy with a 4 feet by 4 feet tent? Seems like you are just as out of touch as her.

Grateful for being alive not for having to share a football dome with multiple victims.

I don't think she expects them to live in the Astrodome their whole lives. She wasn't being sarcastic. She's not addressing the people who lost homes and had a stable life in NO.

I never said she did. Even for her to mock and compare they old situation to where they are surviving is insulting. It shows how much she knows about their situation. Think about how it is to share a football stadium with many other hurricane victims. You really think it will be clean or comfortable?
She wasn't being sarcastic.
which is even worse if she thinks they would choose what they have, over what they had! Some people are still looking for some of their family members and most still require medical attention! A tent in a football stadium full of victims cannot be better than your home.

First of all, I lived in New Orleans for years. I've lived in three different neighborhoods. One being the straight up hood. Every generation that came before me in my family is from New Orleans, La. Think before you speak. These are very close knit communities where everyone knows everyone in whatever little town within the city. There is a lot of tradition there. Hundreds of years, through generations, many many great traditions were past down. Although some of the neighborhoods may be low income, the neighborhood encompasses some of the things that give people their identities as a village/town/city. To imply that they'd be happier in some dome that isn't even designed for people to live in is one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever heard.

As far as the violence: yes, New Olreans has a pretty high crime rate. I currently have 50 plus family members who (were) living in New Orleans,La. Throughout my life, have I ever had anyone in my family be killed b/c of this crime rate? No. Little Rock Arkansas' crime rate is through the roof, but does that mean that the 'main people' of that place are so dangerous and vicious that they'd rather go live in the Meadowlands or some other public place? Makes no sense.

For anyone to imply that the citizens of N.O. will be happier now is totally out of touch.

First off, get in touch with the living conditions in new orleans. I have plenty of family members who lived in houses and are STILL considered all but poor. Just because a person lives in a house does not mean that the house is like a house here in the suburbs somewhere. Find out what some of the houses are worth. And even still, many people are connected to their houses and neighborhoods. Some have had houses passed down from great-grandparents over time. With that said.....They lost their houses, pictures of relatives, letters etc. My mother was in the hurricane Camille in the 60's where the entire 9th ward was submerged. I have never in my life seen a picture of my mother as child or a teenage because the 9th ended up being totally swallowed and all was lost. My grandfather died before I was born. Never seen a picture of him. A lot comes with LOSING EVERYTHING.

She was addressing 'victims'. Period. There is NOTHING funny about what has transpired. Nothing.
