Surgical masks require for everyone to wear masks for it to be effective. I don't trust any one else to care about my health. n100 masks block 99.97% of particles. During the height of the pandemic I had a job where I came into contact with 1000 people a day and did not catch COVID. With the omicron being even more tranmissible it is even more important to go beyond surgical masks. I saw n100's on sale on amazon a few months ago and picked up 5 more of them. Went on the train last week and I am totally fine. They even have an exhaust so you don't breathe in any CO2. I really recommend it.

where did you get yours?

This is the link where I bought my new ones. I had no problems with them.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008MCV43K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks! How often do you change mask?

They last a long time. The 1st one I had was 20 years old. My family bought it when we bought our house so when sanding wood we don't breath in the dust. It sat in my closet for all that time until the pandemic. I used it for a whole year before changing because they were sold out everywhere. The new one I bought I been using since September and its still just like new.

I think you are in good hands with the upgraded n100 mask but I would also check out typical, recommended use times for each type of mask from the manufacturer. Masks deteriorate in function both over shelf life and with regular use over time; just no getting around that. Consult your experts!

And at ~$13 a pop, can't hurt to invest in new mask as you see fit.

Some examples for N95:

https://www.medpagetoday.com/infectiousdisease/covid19/85982
https://www.sofeast.com/knowledgebase/how-long-to-wear-surgical-masks-n95-respirators/

Very good point. I was kind of forced to use the 20 year old one since every mask was sold out for a year. After checking on the life of the n100 the manufacturer says it has a shelf life of 5 years. I probably will throw mines out every 6 months to a year to be safe now that they are easily buyable. For the price it looks like it has a good amount of reusability.

"With the hefty price tag and expensive attachments, you want to get your money’s worth. The N-series masks, including the N100 mask, are all reusable, so you don’t need to dispose of them after wearing them for a few hours."

"The N100 mask is made with the highest quality durable materials, including high-grade plastic and silicone. These masks are made to last so you can wear them for long periods of time and they should not leave any permanent marks on your face."

"Time Use Limitation
Replace the respirator when it becomes
dirty, damaged, or difficult to breathe
through."

This might be a silly question, but can you get infected via your eyes- if someone coughs or breathes onto them? I've been assuming so (hence medical staff and my work advising we wear visors when we see clients/patients), but haven't seen the latest info- certainly seem to be a fair few articles saying you can indeed me infected via your eyes, which is why it's so important as many people wear masks as possible.

"COVID-19, a disease caused by coronavirus, spreads mostly from person-to-person contact through viral particles ejected through the mouth by coughing, sneezing, laughing, singing, talking or simply breathing. People within about 6 feet can be infected if these particles reach their mouth, nose or eye."

"Touching a viral droplet on a surface, then touching your face (mouth, nose or eyes), can also cause an infection. These are the only entry points for the virus, which explains why medical experts are urging people to practice social distancing, wash hands or use a hand sanitizer (at least 60 percent alcohol) frequently and regularly disinfect hard surfaces high-traffic areas in the home, like the kitchen."

"When someone who has coronavirus coughs or
talks, virus particles can spray from their mouth
or nose into your face. You are likely to breathe
these tiny droplets in through your mouth or
nose. But the droplets can also enter your body
through your eyes.
People who have coronavirus can also spread the
disease through their tears. Touching tears or a
surface where tears have landed is another way
someone can become infected.
You can also become infected by touching your
eyes after touching something that has the
virus on it."

I heard that blinking once per second reduces transmission through the eyes.

If you’re driving alternate eyes and go double time.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/dec/23/hospital-admission-risk-up-to-70-less-with-omicron-than-delta-ukhsa-finds

Fingers crossed this holds up:

The risk of being admitted to hospital is up to 70% less for people with Omicron compared to those infected with Delta, according to the first UK government study of its kind.

People with Omicron are estimated to be between 31% and 45% less likely to go to A&E compared with those with Delta, and 50% to 70% less likely to require admission to hospital, according to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). The early findings, described as “encouraging” and “promising”, are consistent with analysis published on Wednesday by Imperial College London and the University of Edinburgh.

However, health leaders also warned that cases in the UK continued to increase at an “extraordinary rate” and that the sheer numbers of people becoming infected could still result in a significant number of people becoming seriously ill, and the risk of the NHS becoming overwhelmed.

The UKHSA said the new variant was more transmissible than previous ones such as Delta, and could still lead to significant numbers of people needing hospital treatment over the coming weeks.

The new data emerged after the UK experienced yet another record-breaking number of daily reported Covid cases, with 119,789 reported as of 9am on Thursday.

I thought this was a good thread on explaining difference between the rapid Antigen test and PCR test and what they actually test for. Also, 10 day isolation versus something else.

This is a very useful thread. For what its worth even with 3 doses of pfizer I still had a positive antigen test on day 7 of isolation. I think his guidance makes a lot of sense, but definitely possible to still be positive past 5 days in. Im on day 10 now, may test again tommorow to be sure im not contagious.

Still don’t understand why they’re shortening it to 5 days, everyone I know who tested positive were still testing positive after 7 days.

NBA is following suit

My rule number 1 is to never blindly follow Fauci and the CDC. I will never forget at the beginning of the pandemic Fauci really came on TV and said masks don't effectively stop the spread of Covid. I knew right away that was BS. So from that day I always said I will hear what they have to say but also filter it through common sense.

Exposure is everywhere for me. I am taking the booster tonight (waiting at Walgreens as I type) and I had to take 2 rapid tests earlier bc I was exposed over the weekend. They were negative, thank God. It’s everywhere right now though.
