To this point, why does OG collect so few RBs?

Marshall Green makes a good point - we built a diverse offensive team that can play off each other YET the coach wants to grind the game out and only trusts the ball in Brunson/Harts hands.

OG? One thought is that he is chasing scorers on the perimeter and or denying guys off the ball which can impact rebounding. Other thing is he's not a quick jumper -- more needs to collect himself to leave the ground.

You can see that he is the main option on a lot of sets but he was out of position so they quickly reversed it and went away from him. Having Tobias just man handle KAT out of position is one the main culprits. I mean, at one point, KAT was moved out of bounds on the baseline. Refs are letting them do this to KAT. This is post 101. If your main post player is getting moved then you move the primary defender off him by setting a back screen and have KAT setup post on the other side and have the ball swing swing to get him a better matchup. This also puts Detroit in a chase situation which opens up cuts from opposite KAT. Jesus. It's not that complicated.

We must have watched 2 different games...on a few occasions, this may have happened, but in the 4th quarter, Kat was mostly hanging out behind the 3 point line, spacing for Brunson. The way to get Kat the ball or least involved in the action is to run pick and roll....I don't remember Kat and Brunson running more than 2-3 pick and rolls all 4th Q. When they did, it mainly for Brunson to get a switch and hunt the mismatch.

I'm surprised Kat didn't blow a gasket standing around watching our offense all night - he practically has to beg Brunson for the ball.

When is the last time we created an easy open look for Kat from 3 --- think of the 3's KP gets with Boston.

We aren't moving the D -- they are just standing with 4 guys in the paint. Bridges and OG got some decent open looks.

Excellent point. The pistons got pretty much all the calls yesterday. For the people complaining Cam didn’t play he got 3 fouls in 4 minutes

Why should 3 fouls in 4 minutes stop Thibs from continuing to play Cam? It's not like we need him for 40 he's only going for 20 minutes on a good night. Thibs is just a fool with some of the stuff he does.

There is only 1 guy responsible for that - it's the guy with the ball in his hands for 20 seconds every possession.

We should be flying up and down the court getting open looks for Mikal/OG/Kat and creating lanes for Hart BUT we are content to grind out possessions at a maddening rate.

Look at how having Hart on the floor for 40 minutes kills our offense. Look how they are defending him or I should say not defending him. His man is what blew up this play. People like our bad coach gets blinded by triple doubles not noticing he is doing more harm to the team than good. This right here is why we always get blown out by good teams. Who cares what our regular seasons wins or stats are when that only work on trash teams. This is our main problem and until we get a coach who can actually do their job figure it out we don't know how good our team can be. Bridges can't work his mid range because Harts man is there to kill it. Brunsons life is made twice as hard because he gets doubled on the drive from Harts man. KAT spacing is canceled by Hart being on the floor. Thibs needs to fix this during the playoffs or he needs to be fired for someone who can do the job.

Hart would be a starter on a team which priority is to run run run. On a half court offense like ours he is not a starter. We need a real PF( Towns) and a real Center( Mitch) in the starting lineup. I don't like Hart's rebounding as it's opportunistic and not consistent on D because he doesn't box out. He himself has admitted it too

Been saying for years Thibs is not good enough. How many people on this team can we say are put in the best position to succeed?

At this point, I believe it too. It’s been a whole season and this team still looks like they just entered preseason. And for whatever unexplainable reason, whenever they have a successful game with a clear plan, it doesn’t translate to the next game. And especially in Game 2, all the Brunson hero ball was reminiscent of last season, when he really didn’t have a lot of help. Game 2 really resembled a game without a coach from our part. That’s inexcusable, especially in a playoff game.

I really hoped Thibs would adjust and be what we needed to go up to the next level, but this season has shown me he isn’t what we need.

This guy Mark Campbell has some of the best insights of any analyst. He is so spot on in breaking down the Knicks issues here. This is a must listen and quite easy to digest.

How about Starting Mitch and Shamet and moving Bridges and Hart to the second unit. this way, we have more defense and less standing around by Bridges, and we have a lot of fire power in the first unit. and for the second unit, Bridges can be loose without Brunson.... Hart can dominate all opposing second units ?!

Some takeaways

-Towns and Bridges are not secondary creators or hubs. Towns pick and roll works when a Center is guarding him. When they put Harris on him they can switch and they will live with Harris guarding him 1 on 1 with help because Towns can't create for others when he drives. KAT has to literally go ape **** on Harris 1 on 1 to exploit this.

-Hartenstein is missed bc not only does he offensive rebound (which Mitch can also do), but he can create, dribble hand off, hit a push, which when Brunson goes to Robinson - nothing happens.

-Bridges is an experience and in anxious way. He has confidence to do a lot, but when he gets the ball there are a lot of variable outcomes. He can't really set up for others and while he can make a fadeaway mid, he can also brick a 3 from the top.

-Cade is hunting Bridges and Brunson and wants to exploit them every time. When you hire Bridges to be Wing Stop and the best opposing player is hunting that matchup, that's a horrible outcome for you.

-Knicks are their best when Hart is making an impact on the game and rolling with his strengths - i.e. 4th q of Game 1. Knicks need to dictate to the Pistons to play that way.

I remained convinced the best SL.swap is Deuce for Bridges. Deuce is small, but Cade wont be hunting him defensively. Deuce offers more creation and ball handling and better shooting, all of which we miss..

Bridges skillset now is that of a second unit scorer or a lineup where he is a primary option.

As soon as I see Jalen struggling to get open to receive the inbound on our end I know we will eventually shat the bed.

He struggles to receive inbound, takes 7 seconds to beat the 1/2 court count, gets across 1/2 court and stops (waves hands for a few seconds), Hart eventually trots over for screen near 1/2 court --- other 3 players stand watching. Then we get to watch ISO Brunson.

Pick up the pace, get Jalen off the ball some and use your bench (Cam) who typically plays when Kat goes off.

Saw stat the Brunson has passed the ball to Kat 12 times total in 2 games. On flip side has passed to Mikal I think 38 times and Josh 28 times.

Your whole post sums it up for me.

For me the bolded is the crux of it and the whole team performance dominos from there. And the Knicks really don't have a reliable second ball handler. Mikal and OG suck. Deuce is slow-down'able.

Brunson has had his best passing season in regards to assists. Brunson is not really a good passer. I think both can be true.

Rim defense, rebounding, picks, secondary hub. He was masterful for the Knicks. HUGE loss for the team and they haven't made up for it at all.

I would even say that DDV has been more of a secondary hub than anyone else besides maybe Hart this year but his outside shot capabilities limit him against the better teams.

Yes DDV was a decent creator - a pretty good passer and a good cutter and could handle the rock a little. Hart averaged 6 assists per game this year. Top 25 in the NBA.

In the offseason when we think about the team, I do wonder if the right acquisition is another ballhandler, creator next to Brunson. I think everyone in the league at this point has to stick a 3, but it doesn't necessarily have to be a shooter.

Total thought experiment - we paid a heavy premium for Bridges, while Giddey was acquired for 50 cents on the dollar, but what if we had someone like Giddey rather than Bridges in the SL? I think having a big versatile ballhandler like Giddey who can create off the bounce and score a little would have been interesting.

Not sure why Josh is not in the iHart role as a pick and then hub guy, especially if they are putting bigs on him.

Game 3 adjustments would be starting Deuce for Mikal and Mitch at 5 while moving Hart to the bench, while letting OG man the 3 and Towns at the 4. Go big, box out , get those boards. Let our second unit completely cook theirs. Starting lineup: Brunson, Deuce, OG, Towns and Mitch

Highly doubt Thibs is gonna change his lineup in a 1-1 series. That would be shock of the century.
