Also, you said none of the 1999 guys got it based on that run, but the run was done with Patrick on the team. He was injured in the ECF. His number IS retired...

Yes, Ewing is both HOF, in the rafters, and on the 1999 team. But lets be honest, his number does not hang there because of the 1999 season does it? Nope. Hangs for his decade of work and sure fire HOF career in large with Knicks.

As for Nalod? This thread had a pretty good take on Shamet back in january of 2025.
Also, I am on record about two years now making the case that Jalen has a path to HOF given his gaudy HS and College accomplishments and awards. A few ALL NBA really pushes that, and I project the dream of a Finals MVP would ensure it.
So perhaps while some were blasting his ball hogging tendancies I remain objective even with Hammons statement.

There is no doubt fan sentiment and perhaps even Dolan that would not hang a banner one game into a finals with that performance.
Brunson could run for Mayor and win. He could shoot a grandma on 5th Ave and blame Trump for it and get away with it. He is the prince of the city. I wrote that a month ago when finals was not a thing or it was a thing in the making.
Now that it is, and I'd project we not going down in 5 games like last time, and.......Not a knick was all NBA on that 1999 All nba team. Ewing was two years past any allstar or All pro accolades and fading fast.

A month later and now past both ECF's and basking in the adoration of the finals on a global stage I tend to agree that nobody will wear the number after him. Jalen has grabbed the heart of the city like few before. Jalen shares the podium with nobody and odds are a knick win a chip earns him the MVP.
Knicks don't do this? The question beocpmes if he retired without playiing another game would he still get it? LOL.......
Based on the his trajecgtory and the last month of play/love, its hard to not see it.

Brunson sticks around and he's going to be in the conversation for best Knick ever. I'm not arguing that today, but it will be a worthy argument.

Only thing missing is MVP and Olympic gold to his already HOF resume.

MVP is a tough one as you need to be the best player on the best team over a full season. win 60+ games and........have to outpace the competition! Not easy.

Greatest knick? Emotions run high this week on Brunson but here is my brief list:

1. Willis Reed. Three trips to finals. Two finals MVP. One MVP of regular season. One can debate things but those three awards speaks for itself. Also was Rookie of the Year!

After that its all debatable.

Clyde, HOF, top 75 list, 6 all NBA honors, neither MVP or Finals MVP but was the constant for a 10 years. While he did not sacrifice money, he did production but by doing so created a lifetime legend status that perhaps has been repaid over and over again. Brunson has etched something similar if he so chooses to build on it. Also three trips to finals and two chips.

Brunson Will be HOF, Finals MVP but lacks the season MVP thus far. In 4 years he has has moved into the conversation as greatest Knick. He might just end up as it in time. Im not locked in on any of this but he is tied in my mind at no. 2. Finals MVP carries a lot of cred!!!!

Ewing might be the best player of the bunch but no MVP, No chips. so if you looking at "Greatest Knick" it has to be that of accomplishment as well?

I can safely say Brunson is the greatest Knick I've ever seen. I'll always love Ewing but Brunson is the better individual player. I know the game is different now and they both play different positions and had different roles but I can say confidently that Brunson is better.

How much do you think factoring in supporting cast goes into this?
While I consider Clyde #1 before the 'ship, he did play with 4 (or more)other HOFers on the same squad.
The supporting casts Brunson and Patrick have/had played with are definitely weaker, with Patrick's being the weakest (IMO).

Bill Bradley a HOF player without the Chips?
Did Clyde make him a better player?
Also lets consider the quality of opponents? 1970 team had less playoff series to get thru but one might want to look at whom they had to defeat in that era. Those laker teams had at least 3 HOF's in each series. The Bullets? Celtics? Bucks? All int he east were great teams as well. Im not feeling Detroit, Boston, or Cavs were that good this year. Detroit won 60 games but could not beat Cavs?
Knicks played in three finals over 4 years and 1970 they won 60 games. Not easy back then.
Brunson had the greatest playoff run of any knick. Hell, he is in rare company historically. But Lets see what the next few years look like before we start making lists. I read a really bad one that had Ewing 1st, Brunson, then Clyde, then Reed. I think regular season MVP is a big one, and Reeds body of work over a full career that started as ROY matters. Two MVP finals also.
That bad list had Starks at like no. 7 and no Dave Debusschere? OG had a incredible playoff run and the tip in. Maybe he in over Starks who got 6th man of the yaer. A nice honor BTW. Bernard King on the list.

After game 4 many were calling OG the MVP of the finals and with good reason. After game 5 I fully without any doubt thought Jalen deserved it without any reservation. In time KAT will be HOF.

Not to dispute Brunson not being no. 1. Emotions run high and this guy in a matter of weeks leapfroged into Bill Simmons top 50 of ALL TIME!
Maybe there are some metrics that paint him as the greatest knick. This week, no doubt!
