All the ostriches in the world won't be able to bury their heads deep enough in the ground to avoid the truth any longer. When Phil is shown the door all the dim bulbs who think I'm stoking the fires of drama will remember for a second the writing was always there on the wall for them to see. And then they'll suffer their usual amnesia and go on pretending things can somehow work out while Dolan owns this team. It can't and it won't.

Phil is already throwing shade in public and he damn well knows he is taunting Dolan when he does this. Anybody who chooses to ignore this obvious warning sign of an impending management free for all just don't read the clues.

The clues are always there. Only a few seem to even pick up on them and the rest bash the truth tellers.

I said this yesterday and the media is now commenting on it today. If basic beat reporters fishing for gossip can pick up on the inevitable, why can't basic Knick's fans see it? Because they disparage the media as being sensationalist, but with Dolan where there's smoke there's always fire so that is a dumb way to wave off inconvenient truths.

The media is going to slice and dice Jackson pretty soon. His last shield from criticism will be gone after this off-season. The games have just begun and it will culminate in his departure in 12-18 months if not earlier.

Phil is a prima donna and Dolan is silver spoon thug. That is not good marriage material. Phil married for the money and now he will be looking to file for divorce. If he tweets anymore he's looking to get fired. No moron would keep up what he just did and not expect Dolan to lose it.

LOL AWESOME POST! i'm co-opting some of it for my new sig.

Honestly, I think Jackson makes the entire five years ( unless he dies)

The ceiling IMHO is a treadmill team. The floor? Well we've seen the Knicks hit rock bottom this year. When Melo comes back from "injury" next year, the Knicks will have picked up a few free agents and drafted what appears to be a lottery pick. Draft picks take time to develop. Many hit a rookie wall. Many struggle against superior competition on a consistent night to night basis for the first time in their lives. The amount of travel compared to the college game will wear down a young player. While the Briggs-ian Theory is that the Knicks will win the lottery, take Okafor then he will produce at a historic and All Star level, my take is whomever the Knicks take, there will be a learning curve.

Anyone the Knicks sign in free agency, it will take them time to gel with the rest of the roster in terms of playing together. This is just a very overlooked thing when people talk about the success of the Spurs or Bulls or Warriors or Hawks. These guys just don't have talent, but talent that has played together for a long time, and the core of the teams have played together at least 4-5-6 years.

Year 1 ( 2014/2015 season) - Jackson believed he could make a run for the playoffs, then the plan went into a faceplant. The only option left was to tank but clearly it was not the intention in the offseason.

Year 2 ( 2015/2016 season) - Said rookie will have to eat some growing pains, FA signings will need time to adjust and try to gel with other players. Melo will not suddenly start to become a team player or leader. This isn't the blueprint of a playoff team. This is the blueprint of a team that will struggle but will at least win some more games than Year 1 (Is there any other direction but up at this point?)

Year 3 ( 2016/2017 season)- There is a decent chance the entire league will be embroiled into another labor war. Likely there will be a lockout. The players union has already denounced a "smoothing option" and there are still issues like Draft Lottery reform looming. None of this will help the development of said Knicks rookie, and since the Knicks have no 2016 draft picks, there won't be more young help on the way. The cap will go up, but it will go up for the entire league. Lots of teams will have the space to keep their 2nd and 3rd tier potential free agents, choking out the pool of available talent. This year could easily function as a PAUSE year for the entire league.

Year 4 ( 2017/2018 season) - Said lottery pick rookie will enter his third season, remains to be seen if the lockout likely year hampered his development at all. At this point, during the season, the kid will likely show 85 percent of what he will likely be for his career. Melo will be declining ( Father Time always wins) and the Knicks will finally have a first round pick again to try to integrate. An aging Melo, some likely overpaid Tier 2 and Tier 3 free agents, and a lottery pick from 2015 that everyone hopes pans out. And another rookie. Does this seem like a blue print of a contender? It looks like a team that at best would hover in that 8th and 9th slot.

Year 5 ( 2018/2019 season) - Melo and Jackson's last contracted year. Melo will not be the same player he was in 2014. Those free agents signed in 2015 offseason, a decision will have to made on many of them, as shorter length contracts mean it might be time to trade them. If former lottery pick pans out, 2017 pick pans out and the Knicks get a strong rookie class, this might be a 500 team.

I just don't see an asset base in place to make the Knicks more than a 7th seed at the most ideal conditions by Year 5. Rookies need time to develop. Players need time to gel together and nothing replaces years and years building a rapport with each other. ( and maybe moreso is needed to learn the Triangle offense) If the drafted players emerge ( and this doesn't factor in yet that one or more could bust), likely they will just be stretching their wings by the time Melo is no longer the offensive threat he used to be. And whatever defense he gives will even be more tragic at that point.

A lot of people here are banking on the Knicks absolutely hitting on each and every draft pick and free agent signing and that's just not reality. Teams hit on some things and miss on others. Even good teams, even bad teams. ( Though bad teams miss more) Expecting the Knicks to hit on everything is not "optimism", that simply defies NBA history and trends and the reality of the NBA marketplace and how team building operates in the modern era. And unlike division rivals, Boston and Philly, the Knicks don't have the asset stockpile to build a stronger margin of error.

From an asset standpoint, Melo is basically to the Knicks to what Herschel Walker was to the faltering Cowboys. He doesn't fit into the timeline of a rebuild. Not at his age, his level of conditioning, the limitations of his game and his contract.

And when Phil leaves, what's the legacy? Running an offense that no other team is going to run?

There's a good chance the Knicks will have to start from scratch at this point. A new GM and likely new coach, a new regime will want it's own players and it's own philosophy. Those existing "Phil" picked players might not fit that vision and get traded or they might bust out before that.

I've said this before, it's like trying to avoid the dentist. At some point, you have to just drill the mother ****er. And if you have to drill, might as well do it in 2014 compared to five years later. And while Phil could be a "better choice" than what the Knicks had before ( i.e. an aging geriatric first time GM versus the idiot SureShot himself), it doesn't mean he's the "right choice" for the future.

Walsh tried it, but the sad fact is that they never bottomed out enough to get really good picks. We got Gallinari at 6 in a draft that had Westbrook, DRose and Love. We got Jordan Hill at 8 in a draft that had Steph Curry at 7, Harden at 3 and Blake Griffin at 1. If they were gonna give away DLee in 2010 for a poopoo platter, why not give him away earlier for another #1 draft pick??

Whether or not this was intentional - they have a chance to get a top three pick now and go from there. We all know the culture has sucked for years, hopefully Phil can change that. Who frickin' knows. It is astounding how bare the cupboard is right now though. We need to get extremely lucky in the draft. No pressure, kid! whoever you may be!

Well said. Fair and balanced post. You have to wonder though after the trades if Phil is in over his head. He has this offseason to make up for it though

There Is No Tanking In Basketball

Enyspree - The Knicks are about turning a profit. 2015 is just a number. Other than being the worst season in franchise history, 2015 holds no significance. A charter NBA a franchise sinks below the entire league and it does not feel as cool and refreshing as we thought. Games pulled from public view and our GM is searching for relevance with an owner who is the entitled jerk who gives you the finger for not making enough space for his limousine.

As far as your labeling this a "childish" thread, your participation is welcome.

I have seen about 2.5 games this year and don't plan on spending anymore time on the Knicks than that. Did not follow them last year either for the most part. Can't remember the last time I spend any money on them. Only on this forum cause insanely bored at work.

I agree - as long as Dolan is the owner there is no shot at competency. The fish always rots from the head.

When me and Earl agree on anything you know **** is bad lol

A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

If he does stay the whole five year it could turn quite acrimonious between him and Dolan. Phil may get severe acid reflux like Larry Brown. Las Vegas puts the odds at 601-1 that Jackson can knock out Mayweather and that Pacquiao can lead the Knicks to a championship in 2016.

Yes....change hurts. And we as knick fans have been walking around with our nose in the air for years, since we know this is the mecca. But everything has an expiration date. And it took 30plus years for the fans and owner to realize we need a major change. This organization is infected. It's time to hit CONTROL*ALT*DELETE and start over.

These Band-Aid moves we've done hasn't cleared the infection.....in fact, the infection has grown. In come Phil the magician. And new fresh mind. The last hope of bringing that 70's championship culture back to NY. Then he hires a new generation coach from his recent championship days of the 90's. In theory, this combination should result into something better than anything we've seen in our life time. But you have to see through the forest and eventually follow the light.

Some people only see half empty......Others see half full.

If They didn't resign Melo we could've jump started the whole rebuilding process with additional picks. TYSON doesn't get trade for zero value and we could've been players at the deadline of at least got more assets. Now we have an injured Melo, who know one wants to play with, taking up $24mil of the cap

How do you know that no one wants to play with Melo since you are stating this as a fact. The Knicks have not had the ability to sign large free agent contracts until this coming free agency period.

No.. it was lose Melo for nothing or resign him. Im sorry, did you have knowledge of a Melo deal on the table?

So despite every NBA player that gets asked this question and says they liked playing with Melo, so despite the young guys who have all said they like playing with Melo your still on this kick? Why?

It wasn't lose Melo for nothing. It was lose him for $25 mil more in cap space every year, which is not much less than the cost of some top teams' entire starting lineups.
If it was a simple as you're suggesting, no one in the history of the game would have ever let a player walk.

Phil actually achieved something significant in the sport, but he really is out of touch. He's a vain peacock married to a silver spoon union-busting thug. It's like Greta Garbo marrying Al Capone.

I believe the NY Times plant on this board has now been clearly identified. I just need a conspiracy theory to go along with why the Far Left needs to fund the infiltration of a knicks fan board. It may take time, but I'm sure it will present itself on Youtube eventually.

Phil acheieved something significant in the sport. How benevolent and generous.

In a business of massive egos massaging other massive egos (IT, Pringles, Marbles, LB, etc, etc, etc) we have a President of Basketball who happens to have a big ego. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! I hear Bill Russel once took a picture with all his rings on his fingers. What a tool! I'm sure Popovich is just a basic, genteel, humble soul at heart, and not the arrogant douchebag we get to see on TV interviews all the time. But then Pop's only 66!

All this hate, despair and franchise-leaving negativity from the poster who brought us, not that long ago, all 15 million possible internet memes related to tanking. Now that it's actually in full swing, it's time to turn to dumpster burning and looking for the best sight lines at the Barklays, or maybe reserving tickets for AI's # retirement ceremony...

The tear down so many on here were pining for has begun. Is it the Melo remainder factor? Is it just not being able to stand the laughter and jeers about this season? Quite interesting, either way.

For me, it's that half the cap space next year (and the following year) is being taken up by the remainders of this .200 team. A lot of that is Melo's contract, but there's still an additional 10 mil too. Tearing down half and keeping the other failed half is not the tear down people were asking for. It's closer to taking off the top floor of a falling apart 2 story building and claiming you've cleared everything and are ready to rebuild.
