There were two layups that Felton barely missed on and two jumpers that could have come with more patience. Otherwise, he set an aggressive tempo from the opening tip and protected the basketball. Eight assists and one (ONE) turnover.

Felton versus Lin will be epic.

Beat Houston.

Felton not only attacked LA's defense during the entire game but also defended very hard. Eliminated Chris Duhon from the game.

That does it for me! If you can shut down (SUPER) Chris Duhon then you can do anything in this league.

Now you're digging and it's pretty funny how you specifically left out Felton's 19 points, 8 assists, 3 boards, 1 steal and only 1 turnover during your "quote".

Felton shutting down Duhon was only one example of Felton busting his ass off on defense tonight, but anyone with any knowledge of Knicks basketball not only knows but also understands how strong Felton has been on the defensive end of the basketball court here in 2012-2013; all it takes is watching the games.

Not to create another Lin thread but just to give an example of the steal that we've landed in Felton...

Ray: 17-5 overall. 15.8 points, 6.8 assists, 2.7 boards, 1.3 steals & 2.5 turnovers per game. FG% of .405%.
Lin: 10-11 overall. 11.3 points, 6.1 assists, 4.2 boards, 1.8 steals & 2.7 turnovers per game. FG% of .399%.

But yet Jeremy Lin is due double the amount of Raymond Felton over the next 3 years. $25,123,938 over the next three years for Lin when compared to only $12,540,000 over the next three years for Felton. With all that stated, I believe that I'll take your little harping over Raymond Felton with a grain of salt moving forward...

I still would give Felton AND picks for Lin and his crazy salary. I just like Lin's IQ - looks like he is getting his health back as well. It is getting old seeing Felton take terrible shots.

Regarding Felton vs. Kidd and Kidd getting playing time with him.
Even with Kidd playing the 2 he had 5 assists to Feltons 8 last night. Again, what was troubling is that Felton shot 9-26. Kidd shot 1-2 and played 39 minutes (3 more than Felton btw). So, our PG is shooting a poor percentage (last 4 games - 9/30, 4/15, 3/12, 9/26) and in the last game had 18X more shots than our SG. Now, what is wrong with this picture? Clearly, even without watching the game, I get the feeling Kidd is doing more out there as he isn't shooting and played more minutes than anyone on the team! Outside of James White's 0-1 night, Felton is consistently the worst shooter on the team (well, JR joins him on occasion).

Mind you - Felton is my ONLY area of concern on the team right now. I do like Felton, just not as our starting PG. I like him as a backup, just too inconsistent for me, especially if he is to be depended on. When he is the 3rd shooter on the team I can live with it, but when he is jacking up lots of shots, it is painful the way he takes them...

It's painful in the box score??? That has to be ruff, having to read a bad box score.

When Melo's out the game, this team isn't the same, the pick and roll becomes too easy to defend. It's not really a hard concept.

Kidd does run the offense because he is too slow. Chandler at the rim is the Knicks number 1 threat when Melo or Stat isn't in the game and teams pack the paint, that's why Felton has to shoot. Don't take a Havard degree to figure out.

It's not like Jeremy Lins IQ is going to make him shoot jump shots any better when that's all teams give us of the pick and roll.

funny how you specifically left out 19 ON 26 SHOTS!!! 26 SHOTS? 19 POINTS?

That is brutally awful!!!!

And some of his shots are downright nauseating. But, as Red Aurbach said "I want me a ball player" ... Felton is a pure shooter not a specialist or anything like that.

With the system that the knicks run you have to be a mental bufoon to not get 8 assists per game. If he did not have Baron Davis-itis, and think he is a scoring star, he would have 12 assists per game.

His defense is good and he is good for this teams chemistry. JUST STOP PHUCKIN SHOOTING you bonehead [/endRant]

"That's something I've been doing all year -- just attacking the basket," he said. "Even sometimes when I don't finish the shot, or with the big man trying to block my shot, Tyson can clean it up for dunks or rebounds. You've just got to be aggressive."

Felton helped set the tempo in the first quarter by pushing the pace in transition, which led to the Knicks' 41-27 first-quarter lead. He must have been listening to D'Antoni's pregame press conference, in which the coach said he was concerned with how dangerous the Knicks could get from downtown in the fastbreak.

He was right, although the numbers entering Thursday night didn't suggest that. The Knicks were averaging an NBA-worst 8.6 fast break points per game, and attempting 12.2 percent of their 3-pointers in transition for 45.3 percent accuracy. But in their win over the Lakers, they scored 16 fast break points and attempted 28.0 percent of their 3-pointers in transition for 85.7 percent accuracy (6-for-7), with two of them coming in the first quarter (both from Anthony).

While Felton struggled from the field in the second half, finishing 9-for-26 overall, he had two huge assists late in the fourth quarter to give the Knicks a double-digit lead. One was an inside pass to Chandler, and then on the very next offensive possession, he dished the ball to J.R. Smith for a 3-pointer to put the Knicks up 111-99 with 3:48 remaining. For the game, Felton had eight assists and only one turnover -- a big change from his seven-assist and seven-turnover night against the Nets on Tuesday night.

Felton's relentless style of play, even when he's missing or turning the ball over, has been keeping the Knicks alive throughout every game, no matter if they're up or down on the scoreboard
.

Consistent effort is a simple thing in the NBA, and Felton, who's having a Most Improved Player of the Year campaign -- potentially even All-Star worthy -- represents that well. He's personally playing with a chip on his shoulder, coming off his worst season of his seven-year career. But with the team in mind, the floor general knows that he has to keep his guys playing at a high level. - Jared Zwerling

Please, Felton was terrible again last night. We nearly lost the game because he was so bad down the stretch. If it wasn't for Tyson, or if the Lakers could've grabbed a rebound, we very well might have lost. Felton needs to pull his head out of his ass and start passing the ball more and shooting less because this **** isn't going to fly in the playoffs.

Anji, I have seen Felton play a lot. If I check the box score and he shoots 30% AND most posters say he had a bad game and took bad shots, do I really need to see the game? I mean I think I got the gist of his performance and know his game from his time here. His scoring is up but he is essentially the same across the board (outside of his much improved 3pt % this year) - Not a very intelligent PG. (Not stupid mind you, but more average in BBALL IQ).

Instead of making this an "I'm right and your wrong" type of argument, how about trying to see the point? We lost our #2 (reliable) option in Lin and replaced him with Felton. Can we complain about his game when it is bad? Do we have to be rosy about everything? Also, Felton takes a lot of shots (and misses) in close, I think his game 2 or 3 games ago had tons of point blank misses.

Looking to the future (playoffs) I am concerned about Felton shooting us out, especially when Melo is out of the game. If you haven't noticed, Lin is now shooting 40% FG and over the last 10 games he is at 47% (He had a torridly bad start. Oh, and his TO's are below 3). It was pretty clear he was playing not at 100%. Felton has been shooting 40% on the year but is at 36% the last 10 games. There is no excuse for that with the talent on this team, none. Let's talk about that and not make this an all or nothing argument. I do see Felton's pluses, clearly, but I also see his downside.

Let's just stick to more facts and less "Harvard degree" or "painful box score" watching comments to back our comments up with. I make due with what I have.

It's not just how bad he's shooting. I could live with him shooting around 40% if stopped ****ing shooting so much. Right now he's averaging 16 shots/game which ranks him 14th in the league. He takes more shots than Josh Smith, DeMarcus Cousins, Stephen Curry, Al Jefferson, Paul Pierce, OJ Mayo, Dwayne Wade among others. He takes one shot less per game than Kevin Durant. And the guy taking the third most shots on our team is JR at 12.8.

His teammates and his coach keeps telling him to be aggressive and shoot, penetrate. I disagree on the fact that he takes bad shots. The staple of the knicks offense is PnR, if the defenders stay @ home with our perimeter players, and the big switches on the pick, felton is force to shoot or try and shake the big.

There's really not much you can ask him to do in that situation, I don't think he gets his fair share of calls when he drives, but I rather him be aggressive as oppose to trying to make some ridiculous pass and turning over the ball.

One.

This Knicks team is being coached to be decisive and aggressive. Felton taking 25+ shots is part a factor of Carmelo being out and what the Lakers defense was giving him. Certainly, he could look for Novak and Smith more. We love beautiful balance and despise layups rolling off the rim.

That is why players and coaches watch film. If Mike Woodson feels Felton is out of control, he will rein him in.

Do not forget how Felton set the tempo in the first quarter. We dominated and Carmelo was on fire.

One turnover.

Exactly, when you don't turn the ball over, you compensate for the lack of rebounding, you give your team a chance to set up there defense on miss shots.

We shot 53 per cent as a team because Raymond Felton helped set the table, tempo and protected the basketball.

Kvetching over his missed inside shots (counted 2 layups in heavy traffic) and open jumpers (counted two open misses) glosses over how he played on both ends.

A prime reason Mike Woodson is an outstanding coach for this roster is that he allows them to play free, and play through their human mistakes. (see JR Smith and being licensed to shoot his way out of a slump, and Steve Novak shooting his way out of a slow start to the season)

17-5.

felton has to play better. Not just his shooting but his defense has been awful. I mean deron williams basically did what he wanted the last net game. Hopefully we get the raymond felton playing the heat more than raymond felton playing the nets this season

Jason Kidd needs to step up his defense. Kobe basically did what he wanted last night.

Felton needs to play better. We need him playing at an all star level every night. 19 and 8 is not enough. He shoots too much and the offense is stagnant. Felton's shot selection should be limited to 12 foot wide open jumpers only and he should never drive the ball to the rack. For him to not shut down Deron Williams is an insult to his potential.

Irish is right. Overall I give Felton and A- because of his production to paycheck alone. Also this team wasnt set up for Felton to the 2nd scoring option. Thats for Amare or Melo. Felton should be the 3rd or 4th option but he's had to play a bigger role, and on some nights he's just not quite there.

I dont think he shoots too much. He needs to keep defenses honest and if he's not hitting the open shot defenses can sag off him and when that happens things grind to a halt. Kidd's helped with that. I think when Amare (and Shump) come back Felton's shots go down a bit and his over all play improves. He's been great. One of my fav players easy. Very upset about that loss in Melo trade, thought we traded a real warrior and throwback Knick

Felton seems to start off the season hot then cool off quickly.

Good thing he only makes 4 million per.

Felton needs to play better. We need him playing at an all star level every night. 19 and 8 is not enough. He shoots too much and the offense is stagnant. Felton's shot selection should be limited to 12 foot wide open jumpers only and he should never drive the ball to the rack. For him to not shut down Deron Williams is an insult to his potential.

i assume you are being sarcastic but im trying to be honest. I like felton buut hee needs to be more consistent

Very upset about that loss in Melo trade, thought we traded a real warrior and throwback Knick

i agree for the money he is making he has been very good BUT he still needs to fix things. he doesnt have to shoot 30 shots especially if he is off he just needs to find guys better and he needs to defend better against quicker guards

Fishmike,

He is a likable guy and very rootable.

However, its not about how many shots you/he takes. If the defense sags then he should shoot to keep them honest (though Rondo seems not be content with this).

My big problem is when he tries to be the focal point of our scoring. Takes awful, low pct, contested shots that are completely out of flow of our offense. To me, he takes 5-10 of these a game.

His career TS is not just horrible because he is an awful shooter ala Rondo but because he takes awful shots.

JR takes awful shots and so does Melo. However, Felton is our PG so that is a painful position to have a player who does not play smart and efficient.

I like his defense and his attitude - good for team chemistry.

I pray that Woody is addressing this (Coaching ain't easy)

Does Anyone Appreciate How Well Raymond Felton Is Playing?
