I've been saying it 'til I got blue in the face -- DO NOT make a trade for some middle-of-the-road guy right now and deplete the assets...We may need those eventually for something BIG. A real difference maker...In the meantime, we can enhance the team and plug some holes w/o giving up anything --- say bye-bye to Mason Jr. & go get me either Dwayne Jones or Courtney Sims right now FOR NOTHING..Neither guy is a "project" -- they're both capable big men that have nothing left to prove in the NBDL. Slightly different players but either guy is ready to help an NBA club..Ink up a 10-day contract for either guy..Both 6'11" -- Jones, my preference, is more of a banger/dirty work guy (solid rebounder) & Sims has a little more finesse/offensive game. Whichever they prefer--10-day contract for either guy...I've been calling for this move for weeks but it's never too late..I don't know WTF they're waiting for, seriously..ALL REWARD, no risk..If either guy didn't work, who cares? We cut him in 10 days and go a different direction. And if either guy did pan out, we extend the contract for peanuts..Complete no-brainer...The beauty of it is upgrading the roster while keeping all assets intact..How on Earth can you beat that logic???
How 'bout Shawne Williams?? Smooth, heady and man can he shoot it..What an addition...Always knew he could play, it was just a question of whether or not he had his head screwed on straight. It finally looks like he has..Sometimes it takes guys getting pushed to the brink and thrown to the mat in life before they finally wake up and smell the coffee...About a year ago I recommended we S&T David Lee to Dallas for a package that included Josh Howard, Drew Gooden, Shawne Williams, the rights to 6'5" PG Nick Calathes and a first round pick and got laughed at for the idea...There may have been an issue with Gooden (he was a FA pickup for Dallas and I don't think he could've been traded at that particular time) but on talent alone, I still don't think that would've been a bad trade and I think Cuban would've been interested..Glad we acquired Williams anyway off the scrap heap the way we did. We got lucky - he's been great...Definitely earning his PT..That jumper of his is deadly!
Jerryd Bayless is a nice little player. Very talented..I mean you could see it his freshman year at Arizona..I even wanted him in the Gallinari draft..All he needed was a shot somewhere..Looks like he's finally gonna get that now with Toronto..Shawne Williams & Jerryd Bayless -- two examples of why you can never close the book on any guy that's buried & not getting a chance. AR comes to mind as well -- his time will come eventually, either here in NY or somewhere else.
Nice win today..You get the feeling the Knicks are finally maturing into a team that knows how to take care of business against teams they should beat, whether it be at home or on the road. Nice job..No letdown tomorrow against Minny..Must win -- we need to pay those guys back anyway.
