Solid players, but there are lots of good players who cannot transcend their physical limitations the way a Mark Jackson could.

I think JohnWallace44 is saying he wants one of these freaky athletic PGs that seem to be becoming commonplace on the NBA scene. Guys who create mismatches with their sheer physical ability.

If I am wrong about what you are saying JohnWallace44, let me know, but I think that is it.

That's about it. Very revolutionary, I know.

His game reminds me of Fisher's, who has several rings, so that's not a knock. Try to make Fisher the point in MikeD's system though and he's not going to be as successful as he is now as a fourth scoring option for the Lake-show.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Toney Douglas has some freakish talents which should satisfy you.

First - he is freakishly quick/fast - he had the fastest time of any guard in the draft.

Second - he is freakish on the defensive end. Young guards these days are into scoring and scoring stats. Toney takes pride in his defense and is relentless/tenacious on defense. Combine this with his quickness and hi BB IQ - makes an excellent young player.

Third - he does have a long wingspan for a guard his size (6'1" to 6'2"). I remember reading this but can't look it up now.

Cooch, just to satisfy you and put it on the record. I have no idea what question you really are referencing, but I'll give it a shot.

Will TD start this year? yup
Is TD a good pick by Donnie relative to his draft slot? yup
Is TD better than Duhon? yup
Is TD a great character guy to have on the team? yup
Will TD have a winning record as a starter? nope
Will TD end up being in the top 5 of the PG's drafted in '09? nope
Is TD the long term answer at PG for the Knicks? nope

Hopefully I answered you in one of those.

TD is 6-2 in shoes, has a 6-6" wingspan and a 32.5" vertical! He also benched 185 15x which is very strong for a PG. He's very athletic just not a freak leaper. He can dunk it's just not his game. He's a speed guy which for us is important. We play much faster with him in there.

Agreed. I don't know how anyone can knock this kid or the progress he's made so far...LOL.

Sorry I don' think he can actualy dunk. As a pro he may get there but I think the numbers from the draft showed him with like a 10' 6" running jump. He may can but not consistently enough to trust it in game conditions. Charlie Ward dunked on a back door once in Game 6 of the playoffs...landed on his back and wasn't the same agressively to the basket after. When you can train all day every day and the best trainers who knows.
He does have a great crossover and can get in the lane quickly. Styling the pro's he adds to his game and adjusts to the two step. Cieling?...who knows.

Who cares. Marbury was great at getting to the rim, and he rarely dunked when he was here, even the first couple of years when he was effective as a scorer. PGs don't have to dunk.

When Marbury was young he was a freakish athlete. Power, speed, and explosiveness. Did you see some of the dunks he put down when he was on the Nets? reverse alley-oops on centers, jumping so high he dunked the ball off his own head and out of the rim etc. I'm not arguing, I'm just wondering if you remember.

When he got to the Knicks he wasn't the same jumper, but his power and speed were still intact.

I've seen Toney Douglas dunk already. I think he did it in summer league or preseason.

I don't care if he can dunk, as long as he can finish at the basket or draw a foul.

The drive he had near the end of the Utah game surprised the hell out of me. I think he has an extra gear that he has been hiding.

I have said this a number of times about Douglas-it is all about confidence and getting a feel for the NBA game, and what he can and can't do as a player in this league.
