kam, c'mon man, rubio has shown more ability than arroyo.

You're basing this assertion on what?

kam, i see what game you're trying to play, as has been the best argument anyone can make against him.

however, of what i have seen of him in games, extended clips of him in other games, and sure, highlights, i have seen more ability than carlos arroyo.

when arroyo had a good game against the us team no one thought he was the second coming, but when rubio came into the olympics the hype machine was on full throttle, as announcers were all like "he might be the #1 pick next year," and he performed quite well, also receiving strong praise from the nba players.

arroyo can make some nice passes, but i think he seems to have not as strong court vision or ball handling, or passing skills as rubio. rubio is also taller, with longer arms, making him more useful on the defensive end (and a significant difference between the two). it's true both are not the best shooters, but i really do think rubio has a higher ceiling, already demonstrating more ability than arroyo.

let me also say, unless you are 100% basketball junkie (watching ridiculous amounts of ball on tv, etc.) or are a real scout, i don't think most people have even seen some of the other players, even americans, THAT much, other than the obvious guys on big programs.

we're just fans. in this fan's pov, rubio has real potential to be a very very good nba player.

no he didn't put up awesome numbers but he showed himself well, especially for such a young kid... 8 pts. 3 assists & 3 steals in 18 minutes the first game they played where USA spanked Spain... he wasn't hitting his shot, only went 1 for 4 from the field, but he did get to the FT line & hit 5 of 6 in his short stint & hit the only 3 pointer he attempted... those stats are just 1 made shot short of what Deron Williams put up that game & no one's gonna question that guy's talent... the lone bad stat was the 4 turnovers he committed, but tell me what 17 yo kid going up against Jason Kidd, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, D Wade & Kobe wouldn't? btw, Kobe & Lebron also both made 4 turnovers that game & Jason Kidd only scored 2 pts, so stats don't really tell the whole story of a guy's ability... i thought Rubio made a nice account of himself during the entire Olympics personally.

http://www.nbcolympics.com/basketball/resultsandschedules/rsc=BKM400B12/index.html

This is just not enough to project any kind of career on.

Again, Carlos Arroyo and Saruns Jasikevicious torched TEAM usa.

So what. Rubio had the ball in his hand too so to not get any assists or points while playing with a great national team would just be disastrous. I bet I could get a couple assists and a bucket or two playing with a national team if you're gonna give me the rock the whole time and tell me to go get my team blown out.

bro, i'm not even saying it is... he's got question marks around him just like Jennings does... that's the point... Jennings might have a case if he'd proven something already, but he hasn't... he's trying to make himself look better by tearing down another player... IMO that's not too cool... but that's between those 2 guys... to think Rubio's scared to play against these guys IMO is kinda stupid, but we'll see soon enough who comes out w/the bragging rights... if Jennings can't put his game where his mouth is he's gonna look kinda silly if u ask me... but that's cool that he's confident enough to say these things... but keep it to yourself or to your circle of associates, don't air it out to the media, it doesn't really help your case in the eyes of other scouts if u ask me... but what do i know, i'm not an NBA scout.

yes, i've seen them... dude, he played 5 games in the Euro League last year & only saw sporadic run... his ACB stats are much more impressive where he averaged 10 pts. 6.1 assists & 2.2 steals in 23 mpg in 22 games played:

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Ricky-Rubio-1155/

now let me show u what Jenning's stats were last year

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Brandon-Jennings-1114/

so what exactly is Jennings doing ragging on a guy who had a better season overall than he had last year? someone who put up 7.6 pts & 1.6 assists in Euro League is gonna be chirping about how much better he is than a guy who impressed NBA scouts & NBA allstars in Olympic competition? ok.

like i said, what's that got to do w/anything anyway? this is about Jennings' lack of discretion in saying what he said, not about how good of a player he is.

Actually, neither of their stats are anything to brag about.

i agree... i don't hear Rubio bragging about his stats tho.

Jennings didn't brag about his stats. He went on and said that Rubio was all hype and that he's a better prospect and Rubios stats were smallish when they played against eachother (Despite Jennings losing.)

BTW. Jennings backed away today and took his comments back and admitted he made a mistake.

Jennings backs off Rubio criticism

By Alan Hahn

Brandon Jennings had a different perspective of the "hype" surrounding fellow guard prospect Ricky Rubio.

"I think I got a little carried away with it," Jennings said after his workout with the Knicks Monday. "I was having too much fun with it. He's not all hype. The kid hasmore experience than everybody in this draft, he's been playing [professionally] since he was 14. He's a great player, he did his thing in the Olympics. Overall, he's a great person. I know him, we did a photoshoot together. No disrespect to Ricky Rubio."

Jennings worked out against Tyreke Evans, with Earl Clark and Austin Daye as other two notables in the session. Jordan Hill comes in tomorrow, as the Knicks continue to check out every single player being discussed in the top 10.

Neither Jennings nor Evans could last to the Knicks at No. 8, but then again, there is so much speculation within the top 10 -- and teams trading in and out -- that no one can be completely sure who will be on the board.

Gotta hit the road and beaat traffic...check in later for more.

Good and I agree with you that none of us are real scouts and I haven't even seen most of the Americans play but i'll say this.. I can go back and look at a body of work (stats) for a James Harden or a Stephen Curry or a Hasheem Thabeet etc... and at least the stats give me something to base assertions on even if i've never seen them play. I can look at things like turnover to assist ratio, field goal percentage, three pt percentage, ability to get to the line etc... I can tell all of that from stats in black and white.

Where are Rubio's stats? I've seen them. They're not worth writing about.

So tell me again, if i"m a GM who has only seen Rubio at the Olympics and has to take the word of scouts and scant statistical info.. am I mortgaging my job and the #2 pick on a kid who has some ability but is very young and probably several years away from being able to withstand an 82 game season as a starter.

Nothing against Rubio... the choice is Harden or Thabeet and I get to keep my job. Yes yes, safe picks but safe keeps you employed.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Yes yes, safe picks but safe keeps you employed.

It also keeps you from winnings NBA championships, if you're going to go all safe, all the time.

With that said, is there really a safe pick, besides Griffin, in this draft? Every player, including Thabeet, seems to have some major questions and concerns.

Just go with the guy you feel suits you best.

the Paul Williams and Kidd he faced in the Olympics is not the same Paul Williams or Kidd he'll face when they are leading their respective teams.

btw, i don't get the Steve Nash comparisons w/this kid... he seems alot more Jason Kidd to me than Steve Nash... this kid defends, has good size at the PG position & creates for his teammates w/flashy passing, same as Jason Kidd... Nash is a much better shooter than either of those guys & isn't a good defender at all.

There is always room in life for this. If this guy becomes a Knick the Garden will go crazy just like when Mark Jackson was a rookie.
