As much as I disagree with Briggs on quite a few subjects (and I'm not even totally with him on this one either), he has a few valid points here. This kid was the 6th pick in a good draft. And he was made the 6th pick because he played the game in Europe with a certain flair and intensity while showing an unusual skill set, rare for a player that tall.

Many people have this view that he wasn't worthy of the #6 pick. The truth is that nobody at #6 was worthy of the #6 pick. With a #6 pick you are looking for franchise level talent. Nobody at #6 when we were drafting was franchise level talent. Not Lopez, not Gordan, not Randolph, not Bayless, not, Augustine, not Mcgee, not Alexander. They all may become good player but none of them is franchise level talent.

Those players may end up putting up good stats in there careers. But none of those players to me seem like players that will put teams on there backs for winning season and make everyone else better.

You sound like John Calipari defending himself on draft night explaining why come he took Kittles instead of taking a flyer on the kid from Lower Merion HS back in 96.

#1 Kobe refused to play for the Nets that is why he wasn't drafted by them.

#2 I'm only speaking the truth. I agree that Gallo was not worthy of a #6 pick based on the fact that with a #6 pick you want a franchise level talent. If Gallo has to be a franchise level talent in order to earn his #6 draft spot then he won't ever be worthy of the #6 pick. But neither are any of the players taken after him.

Wasn't it only the Hornets who Kobe did want to draft him. He wanted to go to NY or LA. He wanted to be in a big market.

15 games... it's over guys... he's officially a bust... close the book on him, he's no better than Boki Nachbar... Damn you Donnie Walsh! Damn you to hell!

Something that I find very interesting is the fact that you say that no one at 6 is a franchise level talent. Which I disagree with.

You have to look at the players taken after Gallo:

Brook Lopez: 20 years old

Month of Dec
10.9pts 8.8rbs 2.3blks

Month of Jan
14.9pts 7.9rbs 1.8blks

Month of Feb
17.2pts 9.8rbs 1.2blks 1.8as

Eric Gordon: 20 years old (Difference btw him and Michael Redd, Rashard Lewis, etc? at the same age )

Month of Jan
21.9pts 4.1ass 2.8rbs 43%

Month of Feb
17.8pts 3.0ass 2rbs 50%

DJ Augustin: 21 years old
12.5pts 4ass

I am not calling these guys superstars, but Gordon and Lopez will be All Stars (which is franchise level talent in this league), and every player here fit a need at a postion, unlike gallo who is a 3/4. Chandler was already in place, I understand if you are going to move David Lee, but all three players would have been a nice fit next to your 2010 class

i don’t have a problem with guys having preferred someone else at 6 and being frustrated at watching them coming out of the gate much more strongly than gallo. what i do have a problem with is their stating that over and over and over and over again. to me that's a bummer on a discussion board. gotta channel that frustration into something that's discussable, or enlightening, or humorous, or offers food for thought somehow. don’t you think? How many times can any of us read “look how good ________ is doing, why didn’t we take him over gallo? “

I disagree. Consistency and repetition are essential. Don't forget that someday you'll have a chance to tell the rest of the board "I was right, and you were wrong." You can't do that unless you've relentlessly pounded home your point day after day, year after year. (Think Islefan with regard to Isiah Thomas, or gunsnewing with regard to Channing Frye.) You can't just say it once and let months go by because no one will be able to find it (Bippity10: Where the f is that search feature?) and they won't believe you said it.

Chandler was already in place, I understand if you are going to move David Lee, but all three players would have been a nice fit next to your 2010 class

How did Gordan fit a need position when we had Jamal Crawford, Nate Robinson, Richardson, Mardy Collins? How did Lopez fit a need position when we had Eddie Curry, Zach Randolph, & David Lee? Augistine I agree with only because D'Antoni new that he wasn't going to play Marbury, but the signing of Duhon limited that.

The plan was for Eddie Curry to play this yr so we could boost up his value and trade him. Its easy to forget that Curry was in the plans to get mins since he has missed all season. But nobody foresaw all these injuries and drama happening to him this season.

Its not set in stone that they will be All stars either. Also All star players are not franchise level talent. That's why you have teams like Miluakee who pay Redd franchise player type money but don't make the playoffs.

How much of a franchise player is Ben Gordan from the bulls who is a better version of Eric Gordan?
Chris Kaman put up 16-13-3blks last yr & he isn't franchise talent. Bynum & AL Jefferson aren't even franchise talent. They are 2nd-3rd options on true contending teams. They are the type of guys that will allways need a great guard in order to win. They aren't Shaq or Duncan who will make there guards better and win.

Lopez, Gordan, Augustine may end up being quality pieces on a contending team depending on who there true star players are. They could also be guys who put up decent stats on bad teams. They are not franchise level talents though. Same thing goes for Gallo.

Even though I say that they aren't franchise level talent. It all comes down there work ethic and drive to be great. Channing Frye was 2nd for rookie of the yr, now compare him to David Lee. Its not who starts off fastest out of the gate. Its who puts in the work to become great players. Rookie season stats have minimal bearing on how a persons career will play out. Its the work ethic, the drive to become great.

Nowitzki averaged 8.2pts 3.5rebs in 20mins his rookie yr.
Vince Carter averaged 18pts 6rebs 3ast in 35mins in the same yr.

Carter had a way better rookie yr but they both turned out to become very good players. And most people today would take Nowizki over Carter.

All that matter is does Gallo have the work ethic and drive to become great all the other stuff about stats and mins don't even matter.

If you are going with the need angle on why this was the wrong pick start with the fact that the Knicks have acquired or drafted a small forward on draft night every year for the past 5 years totaling six forwards. All of them except one was on the roster when Gallo was drafted. The Knicks draft forwards like the Lions draft wide receivers.

OMG, stop comparing Gallo to Dirk! jk bro... thank you for bringing up that example... some of these guys are so damn impatient to play the "I Told You So" card that they don't care how many examples of late bloomers you give to them or how good Gallo turns out to be in a few years, they'll still say Gallo was a bad pick at #6.
