JoeC - it's not personal. It's strictly business

Why is it I can have an adult debate with a poster like fish.mike, who I rarely agree with, but it never turns personal? djsu and I go at it all the time but do you ever see anything about personal attacks? Nope. Because we respect the others views.

On the other hand, there are some who are simply bent on being "right". You would rather point to Larry Brown having a better win streak than Isiah as the reason he is a better Knicks coach, and then call me ignorant for citing the improvement in season record at the same point in the schedule.

Crazy huh?

“Everything that has been happening is really just a credit to Zeke,” Rose said, referring to Coach Isiah Thomas. “That guy has really hung in there during some tough times and kept us going. And seeing his resolve has kept us all going as a team.”

Plain and simple. The young and unpredictible Knicks are playing better team basketball under Isiah Thomas

that's my story an I'm sticking to it

JoeC - don't look now but this young team is playing NOTHING like the Larry Brown Knicks. Check the record at this time last season dude....

and no, Isiah will not bench David Lee as Larry unceremoniously did during the six game streak.

this Knicks squad is starting to play like a team

deal with it

That is where it turned personal for me. Don't talk down to me and there is no problems. I had no intention of getting personal until you said this. I already posted why I contributed my litle LB tidbit to this discussion. We had a 6 game winning streak in the worst season in decades. We won 3 games in a row. Am I happy, sure. But I'm not going overboard with it either.

You called some people out that don't like this team(and even your phrasing of that could consider be getting personal-especially to people who don't like where the Knicks as currently constituted are heading).

But I digress, when you start the name calling and calling people out using derogatory terms, you should expect replies in kind.

I don't know about yourself and fish or DJ. Nor do I care, there is no reason for me to comment on it, or your "adult discussions".

And contrary to popular belief(aka your belief), I am not bent on being right. I already explained my post about LB once, and I reposted it in this post. I am not going to say it again here.

Everyone (including myself)predicted better basketball from this team with Isiah. Everyone. Not one person didn't. He was the coach they wanted, he is extremely player friendly. I believe the problem was that they would be average to above average consistently intead of contending for championships with him in a few years.

But hey, those are just the facts, I'm sure you'll prove me wrong with your opinions.

Hold up JoeC. I didn't want Isiah as head coach.

and what does it mean when a coach is "player friendly"?

what does that mean?

By they I was referring to the players. They wanted him as head coach thus they would actually play for him.
and what does it mean when a coach is "player friendly"?
He is a player's coach. He was a player's coach to begin with. There was talk in Indy he was getting too friendly with players, as in being more friend than coach. Whenever you hear the term player's coach, that is exactly what Isiah was, and that is what I mean. He took it to a new level being the total anti-LB instead of being Isiah the coach.

I just don't get the impression Isiah plays favorites or is all that friendly to anyone Heck, He benched Marbury to send a clear message his performance was not up to par.

He sat Eddy this week.

"player friendly" is just a term coined by the press to refer to an ex-player as coach. I never understood what it really meant.

There's nothing friendly about practice and few have ever attended one.

we're talkin' 'bout practice

I never said you had to play favorites to be a player's coach.
"player friendly" is just a term coined by the press to refer to an ex-player as coach. I never understood what it really meant.

No it's not:
"I really like his style, and I think that everyone feels the same way," Mike Higgins — next year's captain — says. "We weren't sure what it was going to be like having him on the sidelines, working with him every day, but he's really a player's coach. He's got a lot of personality. He's very positive, very encouraging. I enjoyed being out there with him very much."

A lot of people might have wanted to see a college coach give those overpaid pros hell, but this is about Mike Krzyzewski, player's coach, someone with great respect for his players' talent and professionalism.

Flip's a player's coach, and I do know one thing, he motivates better than anybody I know. His system is very oriented around the point guard. He and Steph (Marbury) had a great relationship when Steph was in Minnesota.
Kevin Garnett
http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/k/kevingarne220066.html

"I was thrilled when I learned Bo would be coming to the Sky," said Stacey Dales, Chicago Sky guard. "A strong basketball coach has intellect and ingenuity, a know-how for running productive practices and a confidence for guiding a team in varied game-time situations. A strong basketball player's coach is someone special, adding an ability to understand personalities and the composition of a season, with a knack for motivating. Bo is a player's coach with all of these qualities - a perfect choice for our team, our fans, and our evolution as a franchise."

There are plenty more:

It refers to a coache's style, not if he was an ex-player.

The team is playing good-I didn't say they weren't, but quit talking down to people, it makes you look ignorant.

Nothing like Larry Brown's Knicks?

They are passing the ball.
They are playing D.
They are using their defense to key a running offense.
They are rebounding.
They are blocking shots.
They are taking good shots, for the most part.

Yeah, right. Nothing like Larry wanted them to play, nothing at all.

There is no way Larry could have gotten this team to play the offense that it is playing and his moody and self-absorbed prima donna behavior would have sabotaged yet another season. These guys play for IT because they trust IT and know he has their backs. They would have never played for LB.

I am not arguing that point at all. As a matter of fact I am endorsing it. All I said was this is how Larry wanted them to play to play when he was here.

Whether he can make them buy into that system is another story, which I happen to agree with your opinion on.

From Simrud after Philly game - So, same old Knicks. What's the excuse this time? Oh I know, we were tired. That is why we lost to another tired team, who just happens to own the worst record in the NBA, and traded their best player away.

More from simrud - Nice, real nice. IT is doing such an awesome job. He is really the man. We have young players. Yey!

The Knicks have a talented, young and challenging frontcourt rotation, all 26 and under.

I can live with that

simrud - don't listen to Isiah Thomas.

You can judge the reshaping of the Knicks frontcourt for yourself, or you can wish for the days of Felton Spencer, Frederick Weis, Clarence Weatherspoon, Travis Knight and Eric Chenowith

6'11 Eddy Curry

6'11 Jared Jeffries

6'11 Channing Frye

and The Hearthrob of The Garden

6'9.5 David Lee

what's not to like dude?
