Surgical masks require for everyone to wear masks for it to be effective. I don't trust any one else to care about my health. n100 masks block 99.97% of particles. During the height of the pandemic I had a job where I came into contact with 1000 people a day and did not catch COVID. With the omicron being even more tranmissible it is even more important to go beyond surgical masks. I saw n100's on sale on amazon a few months ago and picked up 5 more of them. Went on the train last week and I am totally fine. They even have an exhaust so you don't breathe in any CO2. I really recommend it. This is the link where I bought my new ones. I had no problems with them. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008MCV43K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |

The valves have a little flap that pushes the exhaust downwards. So unless a person is right in your face they are fine. Seeing as people should be social distancing anyway that is not even an issue. If you are going to a place like a hospital or nursing home with vulnerable people in an enclosed space just put a surgical mask over the n100 and done. |

My family bought it when we bought our house so when sanding wood we don't breath in the dust. It sat in my closet for all that time until the pandemic. I used it for a whole year before changing because they were sold out everywhere. The new one I bought I been using since September and its still just like new. |

I think you are in good hands with the upgraded n100 mask but I would also check out typical, recommended use times for each type of mask from the manufacturer. Masks deteriorate in function both over shelf life and with regular use over time; just no getting around that. Consult your experts! And at ~$13 a pop, can't hurt to invest in new mask as you see fit.
