Have the dodgers put billingsley on the block or something? They are losing lowe and possibly maddux. I just don't see them losing/trading a 3rd SP. That would leave them with only 2.

If you called them up and offered Cano, Hughes and/or Kennedy I'd hardly think they'd hang the phone up on ya...

Some players are just not for trade. I think it's easier to fill positional players through FA than pitching. This trade would make them need a LOT of pitching since Kennedy and Hughes are no guarentee to even start in the ML. And btw, I'm sure they would reject a kennedy/cano for billingsley offer in an LA second.

nyk - no need to panic.

yanks are behind the sox and the rays in terms of developing their own players. they just started getting it 2 years ago. so the sox and the rays are ahead of the curve.

so it will take time for the yanks to catch up.

but look at it this way - in the past 2 years, we have this in terms of youth:

a solid young 2nd baseman, THE BEST PEN IN BASEBALL, joba, and possibly hughes and gardner/melky. that's not that bad considering we were late to the party.

now we have to be patient and let it play out. it's not the time to start shipping them out for a quick fix.

You're right, we are behind those guys. I can't help but think that adding draft choice Gerrit Cole would've made it a hell of a lot closer in a couple of years though. It's ashame we didn't sign him. I don't understand how they let that happen - give the kid the money. And even on the kid's part - you enter the draft, get picked by your favorite team then decide to go to UCLA??? WTF happened? Don't understand it.... I guess we'll never really know the whole story. He looked like the real deal though...

That might be true DJ, but if we go out and sign Sabathia and Teixiera then we'll never see the young guys we may have drafted or acquired in a trade in the past few years because they'll never get a chance to come up and show their stuff. Sometimes you just have to take a year off and I don't think the Yankees are willing to accept that.

they already showed they will accept it b/c they didn't trade for johan. and signing cc or tex doesn't change anything in terms of their young players - we don't have to trade any of them and we don't have a 1b prospect coming up that tex would block.

Well they didn't trade for him but Hank Steinbrenner said numerous times if he had the chance to do it over again he would have made the trade.

I think every GM in baseball would acknowledge that the Yankees made a collosal error in judgment in passing on the Johan trade just to keep unproven kids.

Sorry to burst your bubble, Jay..

General manager Kevin Towers said Sunday that the Padres are looking for young pitching and middle infielders in a potential deal for Jake Peavy.
"If we moved Jake, we'd look for controllable pitchers, preferably starters in a significant enough package to where some are major league ready and some are close to being major league ready," Towers said. "It's got to be something we're excited about short term and longer term that makes us better, and I'd say pitching is our primary focus."

We'll see Jay. I guarantee you if the Yankees offer Cano and Hughes to the Padres they jump at the deal. The Yankees might have to add another arm to the deal, but I guarantee if the Yankees do indeed make that base offer, the deal gets done. Whether or not they make the offer is another story.

Well, considering Peavy says he does not want to goto NY i doubt their will even be a discussion.

Actually no he didn't say that. He said he would RATHER be dealt to a NL team but would listen to being dealt to an AL power. Sorry to burst your bubble, you're just a troll dude.

nyk, you are so clueless.

Peavy goes where he wants to go. He doesn't like the AL, and he doesn't like NY.

According to Newsday article,
"one official from another team said this past week that Peavy, who was born and still lives in Alabama, "hates" New York anyway."

Jay, you are the clueless one. And the pathetic one, at that, since all you do is troll Yankee threads trying to dig it to Yankee fans. Pathetic.

From the boston globe:
"Peavy also has a no-trade clause as part of his deal and is said to favor remaining in the National League. But an industry source suggested Peavy would not block a deal to a perennial American League contender."

Fail. Try again.
