I think the Yankees will address the pitching situation this off season. And if either can find any gems in the farm system, that would be even better.

The Yankees are considerably below Boston and TB now and Moose retires then the Yankees have a huge amount of work to do this off-season. They need several big FA acquisitions and trades. We could just as easily be fighting with Toronto to avoid fourth place for years to come. I was more optimistic before Cashman got his latest extension.

Wow.. this would really SUCK.

According to the Boston Herald, the Red Sox will make a run at dealing for Jake Peavy this offseason.
The asking price is going to be monstrous, but Boston certainly has enough young arms to swing a deal. Peavy, 27, has said he prefers the National League, though industry sources believe he won't veto a deal to an AL power. The Padres are believed to be asking for two pitchers and a position player. I'm telling you guys, the Red Sox are going to be ontop of our division for a while and with the way the Rays are playing this year, it's pretty evident we might not be a shoe-in for the playoffs next year or any of the coming years. This is why I suggest instead of signing every FA known to man(which may or may not get us into the postseason anyway) we should just take the year as a rebuilding year next year. If we are playing well enough come midseason and some of the guys we are getting a look at are playing well enough, we can still make some smart trades to make a run into the playoffs. I think the #1 priority for this team should trying to get Jake Peavy and developing some young talent instead of signing high-priced vets.

who are they going to offer that would trump Cano, Hughes & another prospect? they're not giving up Pedroia or Youkilis in any trade i wouldn't think, & Lester seems like he's there to stay too... as much as Peter Gammons would probably disagree w/me, an offer of say Jed Lowrie, Clay Buchholz & Justin Masterson ain't gonna get it done... the only package they can match up with is something like Ellsbury, Buchholz & Masterson, & i dunno how willing they are to trade Ellsbury either.

if u make a trade for a guy like Peavy using your prospects, then u'r doing so w/the goal of being competitive now... if u want to rebuild u stand pat, let ur big contracts come off the books, & play ur young guys max innings to see what they got... it's not realistic to think the Yankees will ever go that route no matter how much u think it would make sense to do it, especially after the season they just had & the Steinbrenners on a mission to get back to the playoffs, so there's really no use in talking about it.

$6 million in 2009, $9 million in 2010 and $10 million in 2011. In 2012, Cano has an option for $14 million with a $2 million buyout. If that option is picked up, Cano will have another option in 2013 for $15 million with a $2 million buyout.


That is not the kind of contract a low payroll team makes. They won't pick up that 14mil option. Why would they want him for 3 yrs and then have him walk, all for their best player right now?

Thats weird because all reports indicate the padres are looking to trim payroll. I still think the Yanks could land Peavy for prospects, but I don't see them being interested in Cano.

I agree. I don't think Cano has much trade value given his salaries over the next few years and performance last year. The Yankees would have to pay a huge percentage of his salary.

beckett wasn't traded after having a down season nor did the beckett trade involve a player who had a down year going to FLO. so yea... if the sox tried moving him after 06 you better believe they wouldn't have gotten nearly as much as they paid for him.

Well now we're hearing that Peavy just gave his team a list of teams that he'd be willing to go to and the Yanks weren't on it. So I guess that's the end of that...

I like Chad Billingsley. I think we might be able to get him. I know he crapped out in a couple of games against Philly in NLCS but he's a good pitcher and he's young. I think the team might be down on him a little for not throwing at a Philly batter after Myers threw a ball behind Manny. Plus, Larry Bowa loves Cano and so did Torre, Mattingly.... Maybe Cano and Hughes or Kennedy for Billingsley? I like that Asian pitcher Kuroda also. He's a little older than Billingsley but that guy's got good stuff too...

Have the dodgers put billingsley on the block or something? They are losing lowe and possibly maddux. I just don't see them losing/trading a 3rd SP. That would leave them with only 2.
