With all that's going on in the East, this basically is making the case for the Cavs to go over the 2nd apron to bring back their roster. They should probably go "all in" with their roster - meaning since they don't have cap to sign other team's free agents, they should basically re-sign all their own even if it means going above the apron for a year, since they would be the prohibitive favorites in the conference. Meaning I think the re-sign Jerome to a nice deal and probably try to retain Merrill. Think that will mean Jerome gets something between 15-17mm per year to scare off teams with the Non-7Taxpayer MLE.

Dallas giving Gafford a 3 yr / 60mmish extension. Adams got 3/39. I would try to re-sign Mitch right now to the same contract value he signed a few years back which is somewhere in between those 2 guys. With his lack of durability I don't think he can get the Gafford deal, but when on the floor he's a better player. Not as good a finisher, but a far more impactful defender and rebounder.

On the Jrue / Simons trade....really interesting. I think the Blazers feel like they are a veteran leader away from contending for a back end playoff spot and I agree. They had some pieces really emerge in the 2nd half and are a really versatile team defensively right now.

Celtics get a scorer to replace some of the Tatum punch and shed the Jrue extension. I don't really think Simons is a Celtics - like player on defense, but he will be extremely happy putting up 8-10 3's per night.

I think they will look to dump Grant and start Scoot and Jrue with Sharpe at the 3, or start Camara with Scoot off the bench. Grant's contract is an albatross, so not sure who can afford him, but this will be something to watch for the rest of the offseason.

BTW Banton is a free agent, and if he's a league min type salary, he is someone we should look at. For a 6'8" guy is actually a really good ballhandler and has some playmaking skills. His shooting is erratic, but he can put up some points on occasion.

Jrue looked washed in the playoffs.

Simons can play and he's 9 years younger.

Next year Washington will be fun to keep track of.

Smart, Middleton, CJ McCollum with Sarr, Coulibaly, Carrington, #6 pick, Champagnie, Kyshawn George is not awful?

Good mix of vets with Yoot.
Parity CBA doing its thing. Wiz gets cap space after next year and can absorb talent via trades also.

The new era might gave us 7 straight different champs. recall era where Lakers, Celtics, Spurs then Warriors grabbed majority.
TV ratings in the cable dominant era measured higher driven by stars. There are fewer of them in the global era. Can't duplicate the impact of Jordan nor what Lebron had earlier in his career. Advertising has changed.
What makes the NCAA march madness so popular besides the one game elimination format is the Cinderella story. Perhaps going forward the game and viewership is to change with different teams in given years making runs. The engagement better, worse of "Different". Its not the "good old days". We are seeing this in all major sports.
For that matter College hoops has vastly changed. Fewer players are declaring for draft since they can make good money now.
Technology and viewing habits for Big market teams are not loving it as its neutered there advantage but to be honest not like Dolan was able to succeed when he had it other than making money.
Small market teams can launch global super stars.
Silver is delivering what the owners want. Now they are taking in the Euro league.

Kispert & Olynyk as well -- waiting for Knicks 145-144 double OT win at Wash.

Wild to say but in the realm of possibility. Top 8 protected and maybe the Knicks get lucky with a near top 10 pick. With another late first to trade up with 😳

OR, OR, Brock could trade both back for like 25 seconds.

Gonna be a lot more trades with Brooklyn having all those picks and Atlanta have the TPE and cap room!
