So what your saying is that when CP's contract expires next season, were going to be a bad team, even though we will probably have cap space upwards of 45 to 60 mill.
After next season, meaning two full seasons from now, at $40 million per, just to clarify. That is two full seasons our cap would be f@#ked by his contract. At the end of which he will be 37. But as my post indicated, this is about a reality check. CP3 magically appearing on out roster, great. Or having #1's or excellent assets attached okay. But giving up assets/picks hell no. And also my point is it's not just about Chris Paul here, it's about not continuing Knicks business as usual. In my estimation it is the fans who most cry for these big splash quick fixes who are the most miserable when we ultimately pay the price with another crappy to horrid stretch of years. Who then cry again for the big splash quick fix. It's called the cycle of addiction.
Cycle of addiction you speak of applies when we trade future assets( picks and youth) for over the hill stars. Noone is advocating trading the future to get CP. No picks, no youth. Would he be a great mentor? Likely. Will there be a culture change ? Likely. Will we be back to 1 st round of playoffs ? Likely. Are those things necessary to start building a contender? Absolutely.( Unless you draft the next Lebron)
The reality is CP doesn't effect the cap space this season because before you even seek a trade for him, you have the option to see what FA is interested in coming here. You want to Hold your breath for that again.
If your Not interested in trading for CP, then you want to go the MILLs route and sit on you hands and wait for some star player to request a trade, over pay role players for 1 season and that doesn't help stability or build a winning culture.
With a Cap guru and one of the best deal makers in the NBA running the knicks, why should there be any real concern.
This isn't Layden, Isaiah or Mills making deals
