Who would you want in Sasha or Wroten? I am not a fan of either one but I would take Wroten over Sasha. I think Wroten needs time in Westchester before he even sees the floor as a knick although it would be a good time to bring him/anyone up considering the practice time NY will have coming up.

Sasha is deadweight as far as a player goes so that's an easy answer, but Sasha ain't here to play really, not any more. But I do see him seated next to KP all the time and they are constantly talking, and I think that speaks volumes.

I agree that Sasha is dead weight. I hoped he could provide the occasional spark but he's been awful IMO. He's more sure of what he's doing but can't shoot or finish well enough. He's a good mentor for KP but at this point I think even that has run its course.

One thing I like about the possibility of Wroten is he's at least shown he can score and pass effectively at the NBA level. I have hope he can improve his shooting from 3pt range. Tony literally only scores at the rim or from 3! He doesn't really attempt mid range shots! He's basically the complete opposite of our guards. We know he's a blur on the break and off screens and he can create on his own at a high level.

We're talking about filing in a roster spot. I think every player on this roster this season is important. There's chemistry here. I think a major upgrade is something we have to evaluate in the summer.

We need Sasha around for leadership. We also need o'quinn and Seraphin around for depth. This team lacks am attacker at the point spot. Tony Wroten could be that guy

Seems like "My name is Wrot" is not that much in demand or he is waiting. Perhaps a few of you are fixated on his talent and assume he can strut in and produce.

Sasha is on the bench cuz he is a triangle guy and not gunning for stats when he is in. He was bought in to ride the pine and fill in if someone gets hurt. Wroten is a good talent but he is not starting and not displacing Gallo and Grant. This team has chemistry building. This is not a baseball team where you can insert talent and extract at the same time.

Curious why he was cut? Attitude?

We got Trice and Jimmer doing very well in the Dleague and paying their dues. Wroten wants to be a knick he gotta shoot real good.

how would you know that it's run it has run it's course? just because you want to sign someone else? i have no problem signing wroten, but it's not like teams were climbing over themselves to sign the guy.. he was waived nearly a month ago and is still sitting at home. let's not pretend like we're adding anything more than a 12th guy on the bench. aka the same thing as sasha. and if sasha is mentoring KP like many of us believe, i'm not cutting him and NO it hasn't run it's course yet.

He wasn't playing well when he came back from his injury. He was on a minutes restriction and playing as a bench reserve. Maybe they saw enough to see he wouldn't be getting back into the SL. Ish happens. I'm going to guess he still isn't fully recovered from the ACL tear.

It could easily look like we're gonna sign him cause we're all wondering why Phil hasn't signed anyone to a 10 day contract yet cause we have our 15th spot open and a lot of us are wondering why nobody has signed Wroten yet so it seems like Phil and Wroten are both waiting for something. This guy could fill a big hole we have with his athleticism and his getting to the basket so i would love for Phil to bring him in. It can't hurt anything so why not.

It's so curious what Phil could be up to. It's obvious by his inaction that he's waiting on something. I would assume it's a technical timeframe. Whatever it is I do expect that he will eventually make a move cuz it only makes sense given the needs and makeup of the roster at present. Whoever he actually settles on it would seem most likely that it would be a guard he brings in so we'll see what he decides, but it's starting to make me anxious. With every game that we have issues with our guard spot it just makes me want to see it addressed. The Celtics and Sixers games were hard to sit thru and watch us struggle to deal with their quick guards.

Which guard are you sitting if you think Phil is going to make a more. And which guard is going to pick up the offense quickly enough to warrant giving him a shot?

Well all of our guards on this team have something bad about their game so i think Fish could find some minutes for him when he gets adjusted to the system.

No I am asking for a concrete scenario and a concrete PG who you would pick up that can learn the system in a quick enough time period to warrant signing and playing and also benching another of the Knicks' guards. Who is out there at PG that is heady enough or talented enough that maybe you would pick up and who is realistically good enough in the Triangle and then who would you sit?

You kind of gave a non answer.

Yeah, i'm not sure how i could answer that question since i'm just a fan on a message board but i would give T.Wroten a shot and i would have him playing behind A.Afflalo and Gallo would be playing more PG as the backup to Jose and Gallo would be closing out the games at PG cause we need his defense and he could also still get some minutes at the 2 as well so i guess the player that would end up losing the most minutes would be Jose. So whoever is playing the best in that game would get the most playing time in that game. I think there's plenty of minutes to spread out between Jose, Gallo, A.Afflao, J.Grant and T.Wroten and Sasha would get zero minutes. A.Afflalo can also play SF when we go small ball. Also as i think everyone on here knows i would love to have A.Shved back and would probably end up giving him the starting PG spot over Jose depending on how quickly he can adjust his game but i'd have to see him playing with good players around him first which he didn't have when he played with us last year. So Wroten and Shved are my top two.

Totally agree. I'm sort of surprised as to why people are so against this.

Take a flier on him. Make him the active 13th man and put Sasha on IR and Sasha can hang around the team and act as a de facto assistant coach to KP and the like.

For me, I don't think anyone is against it. I just don't know how effective it would be and the logistics puzzle me.

First and foremost, I want Grant to get as many minutes as he can. He should get all of the backup PG minutes, no excuses. He is a long term player for the Knicks and needs all the room for growth, whatever that means. And the Knicks do have a vested interest in Gallo getting a few minutes at PG (I've been disappointed in his play recently, does he need more time and reps?).

Agree on Grant and Galloway development. But we've seen there are games when Fisher feels Grant doesn't have it and he goes to Sasha to run the point. I like Sasha's energy on the bench, but hate seeing him on the floor.

Even if we brought in Wroten only to play the minutes Sasha would normally get, I think that's an upgrade you take a look at. Just saying look at it. What's the harm of a 10-day deal to take a look?

And what happens if Calderon or Grant get injured? Most teams have 3 PG.

I suspect there is simply info we dont have... like maybe a Jimmer handshake for when the Dleague season ends? When is that?

That's a great question. I don't think there's a clear answer. It's kind of hard to know from the outside, but what I think Phil is looking or at least hoping for is a similar transition that we saw with Shved. It didn't take him too long to gain a comfort level. Of course things are different now since I doubt any guard would come in and go as nuts as Shved did, but then they don't have to.

The thing I'm looking at is a Guard and not necessarily a Pure PG. A Guard that has a natural ability to see the seems and lanes but also can make the pass to open teammates. In this offense you don't really need a Pure PG. Tho it is important to have a PG who can get the offense setup as we see Jose doing. I personally don't think it's as hard as some make it out to be. I don't know why Jerian has so much trouble with it at times. Sometimes he gets a huge brain freeze and looks paralyzed.

So for me I see a kid like Wroten being able to find some success. He is a talented Combo guard and really isn't so much looking to run an offense as he is looking to attack which IMO is one of the biggest things you need in this offense. You want early attack and if nothing is there then you can run the sets and if the ball works it's way back to a kid like Wroten in the flow there will be TONS of Give n Go touches for him that with his speed and athletic ability he can translate into easy scores.

We don't have one of these at Guard. I see great potential if he's developed properly.
Look at how Wroten attacks off Give n Go's in this video.

The speed and athletic ability and his natural desire to push the ball and run. He's got just enough passing ability.

DWill has a lot of this but he's not a guard. Wroten IMO could really BOOST this offense a lot, plus still has size for matching up with a SG, so he'd help on D in that sense. Wroten should find success with just a few RoLo or KP picks, Pushing the ball and looking for Early Offense, Give n Go's and the defense having to pay so much attention to Melo and KP. IMO Wroten has the same kind of size with even more explosive quickness and athletic ability as Phil had with Ron Harper! A SG, Not a PG who played Pseudo PG for Phil. And we saw that with Shved last year as well.

I've never seen Wroten play. He shoots about as good as Grant does and Grant is playing scared right now. So, you are introducing a guy who can't shoot. I guess you sit Grant and stunt his growth some? More DNPs?

What's his D like? And is this a system guy?

If Wroten wants to play on the Knicks, why doesn't he join WestChester for a couple of weeks to learn Triangle and hope he gets called to the show?

Again great questions.

Wroten isn't a strong shooter but I wouldn't worry about Wroten's shooting too much. He's in a entirely different class from Jerian in terms of his handle and quickness. He gets to the rim with so much frequency that it's almost absurd. He's a weapon in transition even on made baskets. I also wouldn't worry too much about Jerian's development. Technically at 6-6 Wroten can play PG, SG or SF in a small ball lineup. There are ways to squeeze him in if you cut Jose's minutes. Jerian isn't likely to earn a lot of minutes this year IMO. He's gonna need a summer to work on his game anyway IMO.

Wroten on D I think will be fine. He should improve with work and learning how to defend in this system. He's got the agility and quickness to excel if he commits to it.

As for him being a system guy. I think he's in the Mold of Shved and DWill. He just needs to learn how to use his talent in the system which shouldn't be too hard for him since much of the guard role is simple passes and cuts.

As for why he's not in Westchester, I think Phil may want it that way. Just kind of keep him out of other team's eyes. I could be wrong but that's what I think is going on. Imagine if he went to the W Knicks and put up some gaudy numbers and drew attention from other teams? I think they could be hiding Wroten and waiting for some kind of deal or something to move other players. I have no proof of course, but it seems like a logical assumption.

It's possible that the Knicks are talking to Wroten and showing him film and having him do some scrimmage to get a basic notion of the offense.

I really like what you said about Phil not wanting him on our d-league team to hide his talents from other teams and something i've been saying about Phil maybe having something in the works or is waiting for something to happen before making any decisions on Wroten. There's obviously no proof to this and it's just a, wait for it Martin.......ASSUMPTION but it just seems a little funny that a guy with the talent of Wroten is still sitting out there and we have that 15th spot sitting open which nobody can figure out why so it's just putting two and two together.

I don't quite look at it in that way. Wroten will have to be eased in so as not to totally disrupt everything. Depending on If and When they added him they could just let things happen over time. A couple of 10 days should be enough to at least get a sense of what Wroten can bring. I'd cut Jose's minutes a little and a little from AA in addition to some from Gallo and Grant. Wroten would be in more of the Scoring Guard role rather than setup guard like Jose. So that means let him play more on the Weakside Pinch Post 2 man game. This is where Shved excelled.

The guy that would lose out on minutes all together would be Sasha Vujacic. Jerian Grant would be in his role getting spot minutes and playing due to injury.

Confidence plays a role. You can't play a guy that doesn't bring it. Playing well 2 out of every 10 games isn't going to cut it. Jerian is a rookie, he's not ready yet. Wroten had his rookie year with Memphis and went through the same things. Wroten doesn't have confidence issues now. He's scored over 30 pts in games before. I believe he would jump right in and play. If he does now, he could be the starter by the Allstar break.

Another thing that hasn't been brought up yet is if Wroten is the same player he was before his injury which there were rumors that his injury was the reason for his release. I know he wasn't playing as well as he did last year in the beginning of this year but it also takes time to get your confidence back when you have an injury like that and i don't think the 76ers gave him enough time before cutting him.

Yeah it's just a bit too conspicuous for me! Even on a 10 day it would make too much sense to just bring him in and take a look. At the least you could see one of our D League guards! So Phil is up to something IMO.

Well you better be ready for this team insert new talent and extract as well because we are a team that is in the middle of a rebuild and that rebuild isn't close to done yet so there will be new faces coming in and old ones going out for at least one more year maybe two.

I don't think Wroten wants a 10 day contract. I think he is holding out for a guaranteed rest of the yr contract.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate
