I'm a Monroe fan and even I have to admit he's a below average. He's just so good offensively, especially as a center, that I'd be willing to put up with it.
this is the start and end discussion for me with Monroe. If we are getting him to play center then great. At 25 years old he's a big strong body. He's an excellent rebounder. He's an excellent passer and ball mover. He gets a lot of steals (and gambles quite a bit). His help D is bad. He does a goo job keeping a body on his man and then boxing out. He never misses games.Ill take him. We need guys who can play and fill a role. We got creamed on the boards last year and GM helps there bigtime. If you look at his 82games #s he's much better at C. Also the Pistons were better on BOTH ends of the court with GM on the floor.
I believe Phil is looking at Monroe at C and WCS as a PF who can roam and play help defender. WCS also is not a low post guy so he'll be more of a mid range big who can come in on offensive boards, alleyoops, dump offs and the face up jumper. They would make a good pairing.
WCS seems like a coachable guy.....Whatever the coach wants him to do, he does exactly that. While others with his talent, continue to do their own thing. I believe Stein has more to show on offense.....And he will use this chip on his shoulder to fuel that fire throughout his NBA career. If Ibaka can develop a consistent jumper, Stein certainly can.
Monroe and Stein pairing gives you the flexibility to play big or small. Both players can play PF or center. Melo can play SF or PF. All we need is a SG / SF type like Carrol or Harris. Now you have length and flexibility. The PG position would be the only major weakness, and you can fill that spot in with a veteran PG looking to get a ring before he retires, similar to what the glove did in Miami....what Kidd did for us. How Billups helped us look like a legit team again.
This might sound crazy, but our missing championship PG might be right under our noses......D.Fisher
