melo 10-30 in yet another masturbatory exercise. i am not fooled.
two guys taking 60% of the shots and two assists between them. felton invisible.
They won by forcing a crapload of turnovers and getting steals. They held the C's to over 20 less shots than they took. JR played smart and in control offensively. They put forth a tremendous team effort tonight. I'll take it.
check the statsheet for the game:
the fast break points and points off of turnovers was a total wash, 28-27.
the celtics did not play at the pace their coach wanted them to, so the shots were much fewer than they should have been. that's why they took fewer shots-- nothing to do with knick defense. rest assured with a great passing big man like garnett their halfcourt offense would have been more effective. rivers knew they had to push the pace in order to make a game of it but his players did not respond.
I hate the check the stats versus watch the game. Watch the game and you shouldn't need to check the stat sheet to explain what you saw happen.
i saw the game of course. i said check the statsheet to diva who said the knicks won because they forced turnovers. this is half the story. if you force turnovers but don't convert-- 19 turnovers for 17 points is not a good rate of return-- then this merely backs up what fratello was saying. he said they are a fake fast break team. they hurry up and wait. they attack then pull back. it is "somewhat" true that the turnovers took away "some" of the shot attempts from the celtics. the knicks also got a lot of steals off of uncharacteristically lousy and sloppy ball movement by the celtics. the celtics look tired at times which bodes more promising for the knicks. but this is not the reason the celtics lost.
the man you should be listening to so far as seeing the game properly is doc rivers. he said the celtics' pace was too slow, and a slow pace means fewer shot attempts. in other words they did not push the ball, and without one of the best halfcourt playmaking frontcourt players in the game ut there (garnett) THIS was the strategy rivers was forced to adopt. his players did not respond.
meanwhile checking the statsheet also serves to temper biased views of the action. i saw boston score a ton of points in transition, which few of you want to acknowledge-- what it backs up is the impression that the knicks are slow in defensive transition... as well as offensive transition, which i ave already pointed out.
if you're a slow team in defensive transition and offensive transition you are not going to succeed in the playoffs.
knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%
