You need a legit penetrator/distributor and someone to feature in the high or low post. This is to force the defense to have to react and create open shots on the perimeter or score at the basket/midrange. We have too many dumb players handling the ball rather than moving the ball and moving themselves.Knicks need to dig in on D and hope to keep the pace slow.
But the whole reason we got Felton was because he's a legit smart veteran penetrator and distributor with a track record.
Felton is a teletubby. distributor? He probably averages like 3-4 assists per game.
He was playing pretty good to start the year. What do you think has changed between now and then? Maybe all the hand and other injuries are just adding uo
Or maybe every team in the league knows exactly what we will do all game long? Becuase we don't have a offensive system?
Bingo!!! It is all on the coach. We don't have any offensive system in place. Woodson has absolutely no set plays. Woodson is the total opposite of Doc Rivers.
I've been critical of Woody as well. Mainly it's the double teaming and constant switching on D that i HATE.
But George Karl has come out and said he doesn't have any set plays either this season. It's basically just RUN RUN RUN ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK. Easier to do w/ a young team + distributor in Lawson and Iggy and Vet Andre Miller than our squad I guess.
So..both the Knicks and the Nugs don't really run set plays. Tough to say that's the only/main factor in why we're not doing well.
Look at Denver games - They play TEAM BALL - Gallo, Faried, Iggy, Lawson all share the scoring, you cant win against them by shutiing one person down. That's what has been happening to us since our 18-6 start. Denver has multiple weapons and are using them we don't and don't. The reason our team was built this way is because MElo and Woody didn't want ofensive weapons they wanted one way defense only players so MElo could get his shots. For what Woody does we don't really need a PG, we can get by with a warm body walking the ball up court and dumping it to Melo/JR or creating a turnover by failing to do so. This team is painful to watch and I could live with that if the defense was solid and consistent - but the defense right now isn't even in the top 15th.
Disagree with the part in bold. You could be right but it's all speculation. Better to stick with what we can see on the court.
Agree that the best teams in the league play team ball (Denver, San Antonio, Miami, etc)
Here's the crazy part. In the beginning of the season we looked like one of the best teams in the league and were playing team ball. That was WITH Melo, JR, etc. Melo was playing great team ball. He was defending with EFFORT and making smart passes. The entire team was passing well and defending.
I have absolutely no idea what happened to that team but logic would dictate that with the same players and the same coach..we should be able to rediscover that IDENTITY.
I don't know what our identity is now.
Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please
