I totally agree.

Agree, too. I'm glad that there's at least a few of us here
that see the fallacy in signing Lin to such an albatross contract.
BRIGGS had the right idea.

Every contract has potential to become albatross, so what? BTW, you can't have an albatross without Alba.

Just sayin'...I'd rather throw 3 years and 12 million at a PROVEN veteran like Felton and make him the starter with Kidd the backup than committing TWICE as much to an UNPROVEN phenom
with a 25 game sample size. On top of that, you might be able maximize your return on Lin (he was claimed off waivers for NOTHING) by trading him for a young player and a #1 draft pick like the trade that BRIGGS suggested.

Im with you guns. Kidd has won a championship. Kidd has played with Tyson. Kidd wants to jedi knight train Lin. We have a Hall of Famer who is a coach who DOES NOT WANT TO START. Imagine what he can teach Iman about defense? Imagine what confidence he may be able to instill in Amare. Remember what he did with Kenyon Martin? Dirk?

In the end, Kidd is a leader and people really need to get over how old he is. Playing 18 min a game is perfect for him, and his bench presence and what he can teach is worth far more than 3 million per year.

I cant stress enough how Felton and Nash would want to be starters, and we are about to pay 31 million to our starter.

Felton is cool and all. I just think Lin is better, and with Kidd's influence Lin can become one of the top PGs in the league. Something that Felton is proven not to be.

They will match it within 4 seconds of Lin signing on the dotted line.

I would be ecstatic if we could get Kidd in a SnT for Toney, Gadz and a second or something. I am loving the fact we kept our MLE. I think OJ Mayo is a GREAT fit at the full MLE (he is young, has solid potential, and isn't injury prone). I would resign Smith(maybe....I still would give Dantay Jones a call first), sign Mahimini to the vet min(or even a guy like Kmart), resign Novak and Jefferies...

Chandler/Mahimini
Stoudemire/Jefferies/Harrelson
Anthony/Novak
Mayo/Jones(Smith)/Shumpert
Lin/Kidd

What if Lin don't work out?

What if Amare has yet another oopsie moment and injures something (seems to be the trend)? What if Shumpert's knee woes (and yes he had woes before the present knee explosion) derail his career? The key is covering your ass. Personally, I didn't want Nash (too old, still wants to start). That to me would have been a ridiculous contract. Starters money and starters minutes to a 39 year old. They gave Kidd backup money and backup minutes. I would have rather had Lowery than Lin personally. I think he fits better on this team as currently constituted than Lin.

Operating in the current structure of what is going on, Signing Kidd for the MLE/LLE/whatevertheFtheycallit now and trying to execute a sign and trade for Mayo (I may like Courtney Lee more) or perhaps going cheaper and signing Dantay Jones as a replacement at the 2, and resigning/matching Lin seems the best road, IMHO.

I got a bad feeling about Lin,I don't like his game for Woody's half court offense and he is a horrendous defender,D Will torching him is one thing but Jose Calderon lit his ass up until Shump locked him down,I would rather go to war with Felton and Kidd as the pg tandem vs heat but that's just me . at least everyone's contract is up that year though Amare, Lin, Chandler, Kidd, Melo after 2014-2015 so the Knicks can completely rebuild if need be

pretty average – 0.83 PPP overall 166th in league
terrible against isolation – 1 PPP (297th)
otherwise ok, ranking 23rd-95th only other major play-types.

That is a great contract to sign Lin to. The fourth year is a team option, so essentially you get him for $5mil for each of the first two years, and if it turns out he is way over rated, he becomes a $9mil expiring contract in his third year. Whats not to like about that?

You gotta admit, it has a nice symmetry to it.

Only one thing matters with our "awkward" roster. Does Kidd make the guys around him better?

You damn skippy.

Which is not something I've ever read or heard about OJ Mayo. We have JR. Why we need OJ?

Next time a washed up has been 40 year old posts a triple double let me know.
I hated Kidd when he was a Net, I LOVE Kidd the basketball player. He is a better mentor for Lin because he played solid defense and probably the best passer of the basketball ever after Stockton. I don't know how anyone can write off a guy who can still score a triple double in the NBA.

I love Nash as well, but just didn't see the fit as much - because he would have played heavier minutes and our backcourt defense would have been weak. Kidd is ideal for the second unit and I am praying Amare starts spending more time with Kidd and Novak in the second unit. Kidd can find either guy while still threatening to score himself.

And he still has the will to win. Anyone ever said its the coaches job to motivate Kidd to play defense? Toughness can be learned and Kidd is the master.

Just out of curiosity, why did Phoenix trade Kidd to New Jersey for Marbury all those years ago? I can't remember what their reasoning was at the time.

Anyway back to the topic- I've calmed down a bit about this move. Basically if getting Kidd is our only biggish move of the offseason, I hate it. If we can still get a SG/ combo guard that can play some point if Kidd becomes Bibby esq, then I'm okay with it. We still have some serious holes to plug on the roster though.

With old stars going to Miami (Ray Allen) I find it refreshing and encouraging that Kidd signed with us. Kidd is tough and a winner. I think he wants to challenge and beat Miami.

I was thinking the same thing. We now have two hardest to fill positions from that championship Dallas team that denied the Heat. Lin fits Barea's role with room to spare. JR is our Terry with better d. Stat and Melo are our version of Marion and Dirk.

Either that or he went to a mediocre team because he cared more about getting 3 years of guaranteed $ than about winning another ring.

From his radio interview:

"It was a tough decision,'' Kidd said today. "I looked at their roster and felt I could go quietly and retire. Or I could try to compete and help a team win. So I saw the pieces on the Knicks and felt I could help them out. Dirk totally understood, which helped me make the decision."

"I can not say all the secrets."

He was getting the same offer from Dallas. And he said one of his reasons for coming here is because he sees NY's roster as giving him a better chance to win.

Knicks sign Jason Kidd - will either match Lin or sign Felton?!!?! WHAT?
