New York Knicks’ newest signing, center Timofey Mozgov, says a contract in the NBA is the peak of any basketballer’s career.

“I'm in seventh heaven. So far I just can’t believe my luck. A contract with the NBA club is the peak of any basketball player’s career. Now I am going to put my nose to the grindstone to make it into the Knicks’ starting five,” Mozgov told Sovetsky Sport newspaper.

Great attitude but I don't think he knows anything about the coach.

I like the signing. Watching the clips, he looks like a very good rebounder, finisher with a nasty dispossition.

Just to reiterate, MDA coached Shaq! You can be anymore of a pure center than that. This Mozgov can run, roll n finish. I fully expect him to get a chance. If he works on his faceup game he can be very valuable as a complete player.

Earl Barron started right away. If you can play you will play.

Really? How did Kurt Rambis find a way to get Darko productive?

Sure, Darko might be a difficult personality. But if you're a good coach, you find a way to get guys to be productive.

I fail to see the greatness of Darko with the T-wolves go check his number he suck balls there too.

I would like it more if Timofey ended every interview with "I must break you".

Berman shed some more light:
Walsh steals Russian center from Prokhorov
By MARC BERMAN
last updated 9:12 AM - Jul 12, 2010

Knicks president Donnie Walsh kept his courting of 7-1 Russian center Timofey Mozgov top secret for one chief reason.

According to a source, Walsh figured if word got out, Nets Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov would try to steal him.

But Walsh beat Prokhorov in his own backyard, making the Nets owner's July even more miserable.

As reported in the Sunday Post, Walsh will complete the signing today of the 24-year-old mystery man who wowed the Knicks in a late May workout. Mozgov flew in from Russia under of a cloak of secrecy and the Knicks have waited anxiously for the clearance papers from FIBA and his Russian team that will arrive today. Mozgov was in Las Vegas a few days ago meeting with the Knicks coaching staff at the summer league. He flew back yesterday and practice with the club, but probably won't play.

Saturday morning, Knicks officials, when contacted by The Post, confirmed they were close to signing a 7-foot Russian center but declined to confirm the name, saying they did not want another team to get interested.

According to a source, Mozgov's contract of 3 years/$9 million is padded because Mozgov still has to pay his Russian team, Khimki nearly $2 million for his buyout. The Knicks paid the other $500,000 – the maximum they are allowed. The signing gives the Knicks enough cap room to sign just a minimum-wage player.

The Knicks' secrecy demonstrates much they like him and their feeling he flew under the radar of most NBA clubs. Knicks European scout Kevin Wilson was on top of the case and Knicks executives Glen Grunwald and John Gabriel flew to Russia to see him play this season.

"We do like him a lot,'' Walsh said yesterday. "We think he's a very good prospect with great promise to be a very good player. Plus, he's 7-1.''

Walsh likes he can score inside, outside, run the pick-and-roll, finish nicely and block shots. "Mike (D'Antoni) runs a lot of pick and rolls,'' Walsh said. "He's not a post guy but he's got good moves and can play with his back to the basket.''

Walsh said when he was eligible to be drafted three years ago, he was "too young. Big men in Russia aren't finished products at 21.'' He also was playing on Khimki's second team back then.

He played on the Russian National Team under famed coach David Blatt but did not have an especially strong past season. One Russian journalist Alexander Chernykh wrote to The Post yesterday, "Everybody expected Mozgov to have a better season, but it didn't happen. So his NBA deal with the Knicks comes as a surprise.''

The Knicks wanted another center for their roster as they look to trade Eddy Curry.

Timo Had to pay some of his own money to get out of contract.

WE don't give him 3 mil, he can't buy himself out.

At 24 we see lots of big men just come into there own and when NBA rushes kids they get hurt.

Why does Russian team not play this guys big minutes? They don't want them hurt until they develope.

This is like having a 2nd round pick incubating.

He is still a prospect, I doubt he sees any time this year.

If he develops and plays Many fans will Say MDA kept him down. NO, he kept him working and he earned his place in a rotation!

WIth only one year guaranteed its makes perfect sense. ITs a very tradable contract if need be, a big damn big with upside and a docile obidiant kid who can get abused by MDA with no one to say there are any racist overtones. This way MDa can be seen as an equal opportunity supression type coach who will always slap down a player to sooth his insincts.

We also need a few white kids on the team for marketing purposes, community ties, a white russian to piss off the Nyets and if he can actualy play basketball would be a plus!

IM PHUCKING KIDDING!

All welcome the Era of TIMO!

I cant project where in the lineup he will but I really like the idea of starting a center next to Amare. The Suns looked their best I thought when Lopez was free lancing on help defense and playing in the paint moving Amare to PF

Man all of a sudden we have size like Lakers! Not same talent level of course but it's nice not to be the smallest team anymore. Also do you think we'll be much improved in the shotblocking area or what? We've got some guys that will swat some shots! Amare, AR, Gallo, Chan, Timo, Jordan... Donnie wasn't playin.

Yeah, I like the idea of going big and being able to use guys at their traditional positions, a la

PG Felton / Toney
SG Kelenna / Walker
SF Gallo / Wilson
PF Amar'e / AR
C Turiaf / Mozgov or Jordan

I like that lineup. Tough, gritty players at all positions. But Buke and Turiaf coming off of injuries, so no idea if they are gonna be ready at top of season.

Im thinking

PF Amare/Gallo
C AR/Truaf

Gallo Starts but slides over to PF with Turiaf at C when Amare needs a break. ALso AR with Turiaf on the front.

Timo/Jordan take your pick. 5 min a game.

MDA ball its not important who is who.

TIMO should go to Dleague. Maybe Jordan also.

I was relieved to see that the second and third years of Mozgov's contract aren't guaranteed.

I'm expecting a three man rotation at the two power positions - Amare, AR and Turiaf. Also, we'll probably see a three man rotation at the swing positions - Gallo, Azubuike and Chandler. Felton and Douglas will round things off at the point.

Just heard Hahn mention it on MSG.

I really like the concept- you pay more than you might normally pay, but you give yourself some flexibility with the team options. Also gives guys an incentive to perform. And it makes his contract much more valuable for a trade.

If you are a confident player- it just might be something you would want to do. I would want an injury guarantee, though, if I was a player.

I only heard part of Phil Weber's interview on MSG during the game but it will be rebroadcast tonight. He said he worked out Timofey and had a lot of good things to say about him. Talked very highly about his agility for a big man and also said his offense is a little raw.

Weber had good things to say about the gum that he scraped off at the bottom of his shoe, during that interview. I couldn't get anything out of that.

It's still a good signing though.
