iverson is the best case scenario for this team right now - he is talented with the ball in his hands, looking for redemption and to save his reputation and happy to sign a short term deal.

his reputation as a malcontent is completely overblown. he's never been in marbury's league in that department. iverson is a career winner who plays hard every night.

sign iverson, donnie. do it.

let's go.

if we sign AI i would run him in the P&R w/Curry everytime they're on the floor together & have Gallo float on the perimeter for the kickout off AI's penetration.

Curry really impressed me tonight, he looked energetic & was going after it in the post... pumping up his trade value should be our #1 priority right now.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Completely agree here. He has become a malcontent all of a sudden just because he believes he should be a starter? It is ridiculous. The only way to get the most out of Iverson is to feature him on offense. He knows that and it seems like a lot of people still don't know it. AI can still have a ton of value to a team if he is used properly. He is a perfect fit for our team because we are a team full of role players that needs a leader/star player/go-to guy.

This a low-risk/high-reward scenario and I'm glad to see that it looks like Donnie agrees.

Iverson has been a malcontent his entire career. Not just today. I don't understand why some are so willing to ignore the obvious problematic past and present of this guy.

He doesn't do tryouts because "They know what I do."
He doesn't practice because "They know what I do."
He doesn't change his game to fit any team or coach because "You don't sign me to be someone else you sign me to do what I do."

He's not a mentor, he's a bad influence for younger kids like Gallo, Chandler, Nate, etc.
He's not a leader, he's a whiner, a chucker, and a crier.
He's not a draw for other FAs to sign because they don't want to fight with the guy on the court every day.

Is he talented? Yep. Could he increase our win total? Absolutely. Playoffs? Nope.

So what's the point of this? Sacrifice what we've been building towards in term of team character...for a couple of flashy wins in another non-playoff season? Because we're bored of Duhon?

Come'on....

And yet, how many players actually try harder than AI on the floor during a game? I think that is something a lot of guys on our team can learn about.

He isn't perfect, I don't think anyone is even saying he is a good character guy. What we are saying is he can help turn the culture around this season. I don't care what you say, losing doesn't breed a good team culture. What exactly are we building right now? Yes, we have some good character guys but losing over 55 games won't help move us forward.

agreed. i think winning games and playing in games that matter, even limited minutes, is FAR more important than putting up big numbers in blow outs. we need to be competitive for the kids to REALLY learn. Iverson helps that.

people who say he has a bad attitude aren't really looking past ESPN and the tattoos. the kid is all heart. larry brown loves him. he's a once in a generation player. comparing him to marbury is ridiculous. iverson is such a better player than marbury could ever dream of being that it's ridiculous. iverson may want star treatment, but that's because he's one of the best ever to play the game. he won't win a championship because of his attitude, probably, but he can make a team damn good.

It's a no brainer that Billups makes any team better than Iverson can. Not even a debate.

So we have to cater to Iverson and it'll be okay?

No practice: "Cause they know what I can do I dont gotta practice."
Start him and let him do everything he wants: "Cause I know what I can do."

Then what? We watch our youth regress and pick up garbage habits from this perennial loser?

Allen Iverson has been a DISASTER since he left Philly and the only reason he was good in Philly was because a once in a lifetime roster was put together where you had 14 two-way high IQ hard working team oriented defenders who could make good of his gunning away.

Iverson is a has been...and has been for years. This guy is NOT:

you are delusional.

AI and Melo carried that team to 50 wins. AI avg'd 26 pts and 7 assists. Nene missed the whole season and Martin was in and out of the line-up.

Billups could not do what AI did for that team minus those 2. As we seen in the first few games in Detroit b4 he go traded, if there is noone there to rebound his stupid ass 5-6 contested momentum breaking 3's he really stinks and his team looks awful.

WHAT?! Sure, 50 wins, 26 poitns, 7 assists, WOW GREAT THINGS.

But they sucked and flamed out when it mattered most. Billups instantly righted the ship and now the Nuggets are CONTENDERS IN THE WEST AND MELO IS IN MVP RUNNING.

Anyone defending AI, at all, should be in a mental hospital.

righted the ship? so you don't believe having a healthy Nene and Martin was the true cause of Denver being more successful?

"Medic...we're losing him!"

Add a top 10 center and one of the best defenders at the 4 in the game and even NY will look like they can win it all.

Iverson is not a cancer. Few players in the history of the game have played as hard as he has. The simple problem with him is he has never shown he is able to deal with losing. He can certainly be a malcontent if he is losing every night, and coming here is a concern.

We do need Iverson because he can still score and we really need that. We take 40 bad shots a night. Al, Duhon, Chandler, JJ, Hughes... all these guys are pretty much below average scorers. They get points in spurts and volume shooting. Iverson is a bonafide scoring stud, even at this stage in his career.

He can still get to the line, he can still hit the open man, and he can still fill the lane for steals. He's mentally tough on the court and we need that. I hope hope hope that he comes in and Duhon goes anywhere.

There is going to be an all out fan revolt if we don't sign him. Donnie will never live this down after ****ing up the franchise further with his drafting.

The reason I want Iverson the most is because HE BRINGS IT EVERY SINGLE NIGHT.

I really don't think we've had that since Ewing and Oakley.

Okay, I agree with Orangeblob, Olbrannon, Cosmic, Nixluva, DJ and the rest of the sensible posters. (And by sensible, I mean they agree with me on this!)

Just remember, all of youz guys were all for kicking out Marbury unceremoniously even though he had something to contribute last season. Now the Knicks are so desperate they want to obtain one of the few players that outdoes Marbury in poor behavior. Do you see the irony? really, why can't you stick to your guns? One little crappy season and you sell your souls!

Seriously, what does Iverson bring to this team that changes their fortunes? If the Knicks are not going to threaten to make the playoffs, the best he will do is make it so Utah gets the #3 pick instead of the #1 pick. The Knicks won't be good with him or without him. The season is already finito!

What happened to all the talk of developing the youth? Not gonna happen with Iverson! Of Character? Iverson's won't improve! You do realize that Iverson has quit on 2 teams in 2009? What makes you think that he will behave any better here?

***

Like somebody mentioned above, it really does seem to be true that you can't rebuild in New York, you guys don't have the stomach for the plan that you seem to want.

***

Sigh, well at the very least it might be entertaining, Iverson drops 50 one night while the Knicks lose, then he and D'Antoni get into it, and we can argue and read about the soap opera.

The Knicks can't play basketball very well, but they sure know how to produce a first class Novella!

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

oohah, if Marbury were still a 20+ ppg calibre player, people would not have been in such a rush to ship his ass out of NY... u telling me AI can't put up 20+ playing on this team in this system dominating the offense? u telling me that wouldn't be preferable to watching Duhon go 1 for 90 shooting this season?

the plan is for 2010 that we're being patient for... 2009 is a throw away season... if u can bring in AI to entertain the fans for a year w/o sacrificing the 2010 plan, what do u have to lose?

It simply goes against all the principles the Knicks and many of our friends on this board were purporting to espouse. Good character on the team, team concept, develop the youth etc.

You sign Iverson and it becomes all about Iverson, I hope that is not in dispute. I guess at this point it is all about entertainment. Pull up a seat a grab the popcorn Broseph!

All I am saying is I don't want to hear about Galinari not getting enough shots etc.

What do the Knicks have to lose? Nothing I guess, their self-respect is already "Swayze"!

right now Duhon is not looking to get Gallinari shots in the least... all he's concerned about is running the P&R with Lee, at least that's how it seems every time he's penetrating into the lane... IMO having a penetrating G like AI who commands respect in the lane will open up many more open shooting opportunities for Gallinari, Chandler & Harrington... AI will average 7-8 assists in his sleep playing on this team, which is an upgrade over what Duhon's giving us right now.

Iverson gets assists because he has the ball all the time. It has always been that way. Lots of assists doesn't mean good passing. He only passes when he totally runs out of crappy shots to shoot. He's not going to be LOOKING for Galinari, or anyone else for that matter, the way a certain star rookie PG would have been.

how the hell would Jennings be any different than AI? he looks for his shot first & foremost... hell, he's averaging less APG than Duhon for that matter.

Jennings would be on a rookie contract in the beginning of his career, not on his second 1 year contact in one of his last seasons... next five years vs next 5 months.

We have just added Eddy. Now if Iverson could fit in, the two together just improved our offense tremendously. We could actually win some games. A winning feeling would do wonders to uplift all of our players, and especially the young players. It is much easier to get and stay motivated over an 82 game season when you know you have a chance of winning because winning creates a good feeling and gives the players something to look forward to.

that's not the point i was alluding to... in terms of style of play, oohah suggested Jennings would be looking to set up teammates in a way that AI wouldn't... how do u come to that conclusion? Jennings has the ball in his hands all the time too, & he takes his fair share of crappy shots.

Have you watched Jennings play much? He is scoring because that is what is needed from him on that team right now. During the summer league all the reviews stated "He lives to make his teammates better." For all of his crappy shots he is shooting a pretty good percentage for a skinny rookie!

Iverson is simply a black hole who can score a lot and ditches his team when he is not the focus. He is what he is.

However, even if Jennings was an Iverson clone, I'll take that at 20 years rather than at 34 and having quit 2 teams in 6 months coupled with tons of other baggage.
