the past 2 international competitions (last WBC & the last Olympics) for Team USA have been like the NBA dream team disasters before this past Olympic games when they finally brought the Gold Medal back home... all these Allstars & they still haven't been able to get the job done... they better have some comeback magic left for the next 3 innings.

US pitching staff is weak tho. i can understand why owners won't want $20 mil pitchers doing this thing but if this takes off, we have to see guys like webb, lincecum and some other guys do it next time.

u call Oswalt & Peavy a weak pitching staff? come on dude, those are 2 of the best pitchers in baseball... there isn't another team in this tournament w/a better top 2 anchoring their rotation.

Agreed.

bro, if the Yanks traded for either of those guys we'd be dancing in the streets... let's just face facts, these guys just aren't executing when it counts most & there's really no excuse for it... same crap that's been frustrating us as Yankee fans for the past few years... it pisses me off to see a team w/so much less talent like Japan taking it to this US team... it's not like the Japanese pitcher's throwing 97mph gas out there either... they're just whiffing.

Oswalt a couple of years ago maybe but not now. Peavy is a product of pitching in the NL West.

Don't sleep on Japan, aside from Dice-K they're a good team that has played together before. Throwing 97 isn't their game. It's all about the shuuto ball.

i'm not sleeping on anything... Japan is a good team & so is Korea... both teams play great fundamental ball & put the pressure on the other team to execute, but neither of them really have any business beating up on teams like the US, the Dominican & Venezuela based on talent level... u saw the shame expressed by the DR players & media backlash in their country after their loss, & if the US loses it should be no different if u ask me... that's what got the US Olympic committee & the top NBA players to finally wake the F up & come correct in last year's Olympics... maybe some of that type of media backlash could do some good for the WBC as well... i don't care if this is an exhibition or not, this is national pride at stake here... there aren't many fans of baseball who think of this as a meaningless exhibition except for that idiot Michael Kay.

listening to Steve Phillips, Joe Morgan & Jon Miller trying to make excuses for this US team's underachievement is kinda pathetic... they're saying teams like Japan & Korea's only focus is on winning this WBC, whereas the US players are just trying to get ready for their ML seasons... gimme a break... if there's even 1 player on that US team that didn't come here to do their best to win this WBC tournament they don't belong on that team.
