it seems like nate is a polarizing figure to the fanbase. the group is split between: i love the little guy or the guy's a sideshow/clown. inbetween the two extremes is a huge middle ground...

on a side ntoe, will retaining nate hurt the team's long term prospects? the answer should be no but considering this very risky 2010 plan, it seems retaining anybody would jeopardize it...

I think there is a bunch of folks who think that Nate would be very nice off the bench. But Nate wants starter money - like $8M per and I have a feeling Donnie will trade his now very marketable sparkplug.

Personally I think Nate's deserves a five game sample at PG after the last game. He earned it. If I see Duhon starting the next game I will be scratching my head. If a guy has a 33 point 15 assist 9 rebound 5 steal[more like 8-9] game shooting roughly 50%--you give him another .25 for the ride. Nate got gassed and we lost becasue we could not find the 3 point shooters and should've played more methodically down the stretch. I think Dantoni needs to know when to slow it down and find a good shot at the end of games when we have the lead. I know Harrington got a T but he also got the offensive rebound on that play--if he doesnt maybe we don't have those 2 points were a net +1 anyway/ Dantoni is under the microscope here---start Nate and manage end of game situations much better--we lost MANY games at the end this year--we need better coaching and more methodical play at the end.

The one thing about Nate at the point if they let him---he must be smarter about how many 3s he takes. It has to be down to 2-3 maybe 4 a game max. You don't want to take 10 3s because they lead to break outs and comebacks. Take 2 or 3 good three's when wide open. The guy is shooting 52% from 2 this year---stop taking so many 3s Nate.

"I think you're off base and caught up in the moment of one good game and one entertaining evening at an AS event."

Cosmic - I think not.

Nate has produced steadily improving stats each year he has been in the league.

his stats have been better and so has his play. I don't think he has shown he can run a team yet, as a starter or as the first guard off the bench.

Martin - Nate could be a total bust as a lead guard. I could be a total fool. Then again, perhaps not. If Duhon can't play, don't you think it will be intriguing to watch Nate's development in his cameo role as starter with the (quieter) confidence (and responsibility) of a defined role?

All I'm saying is that guys like Nate can change. He has spent a lifetime working to be recognized or taken seriously. He invented his boisterous act just to get picked on the playground, or try out for high school, or recruited in college or prove he belonged in the pros- instead of laughed at.

He has won some recognition.

The real question is, can he do what is required to earn trust?

I hope Nate gets more minutes while Duhon recovers.

A telling sign of how Nate has progressed would be to look at his stats during that period earlier this season when he couldn't shoot the ball worth a lick. Were his assist totals up? How about steals? Rebounds? Deflections? Anything to show us that he knew to concentrate on other parts of his game when shooting was way off.

"We sometimes lose sight that, for about 14 years of Nate's life, he played three or four sports," (Lorenzo) Romar said. "For the first time in his life last year he started concentrating on basketball and he's just growing up real fast, getting more reps as a basketball player.

Let's be honest here, neither has Duhon. I mean a 6'11 guy is being forced to guard his man in games that we hope to win. Nate is a better passer than Duhon, better scorer, and so far from what I seen a better defender. I too will be scratching my head if Duhon is starting. I think Gallo and Lee are better defenders.

Why would those numbers be up if his coach is telling him you got to shoot the ball as in "I need Nate and Wil to score more. Those are my scorers."

these things are not mutually exclusive, and any coach will also tell you that if you are struggling in one area on the court - especially shooting - you had better pick it up in others. A guy like Nate has the ball in his hands when Duhon is not on the court, if his shot sucks you would expect him to make it up in other areas, that's what smart players do.

I love Nate and I really am torn on what to do with him.

Statistically, he has the best plus-minus on our team and he shows flashes of being a very good player. Of course, there are other times when he shows that he still has to grow up and it seems like he might excel the most in a 6th man role.

He certainly has some value right now and I think Walsh would be wise to see what he can get for lil Nate. If we could bring him back on a decent contract, I would be 100% for it. However, it seems like Nate wants big money and I just don't think he is worth that type of contract right now.

i hope he gets more minutes too but only to showcase him... i think he's got tons of talent but none of the mentality to be a winner in this league... he seems to me to be more caught up in the flash & the oos & ahs from the crowd than making smart plays to win basketball games sometimes... Nate worries me alot because i love his intensity & heart but i can't stand the idiotic showboating & shenanigans he pulls everytime he does something that garners a shout from the crowd... i really wish the guy would grow up already but after 4 years i dunno if he's ever gonna change much from the guy he already is... that's just his personality, & u can't expect a guy to change who he is... i think pumping up his trade value & trading him would be in our best interest at this point, as much as i like the guy's talent & the spectacular plays he makes sometimes... my concern is focused on building a winning basketball team tho.

Especially since he won another title. But Donnie can say 'he used his hand to push off on Howard' as a way to get out of a big contract.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Stereotypes

TMS - "i hope he gets more minutes too but only to showcase him... i think he's got tons of talent but none of the mentality to be a winner in this league"

2005

" "I think a very good compliment to someone is that when they leave someplace, they left it in a better condition than when they first got there. That is what Nate has helped do. This program had fallen on hard times and he played a big part in helping to get this program to where it is recognized nationally."

- Washington Head Basketball Coach Lorenzo Romar

2004

"He was not a very good shooter three years ago," Giacoletti said. "He's worked his butt off to become a pretty damn good shooter."

"When I was young, I could pretty much always go to the hole," Robinson said. "My dad was telling me that if I got to be a good shooter, I'd be unstoppable. So I've worked on my jumper every day.

"I love basketball with a passion and people don't think I can play. I want to prove that I can, I know I can. Every day I want to show the world."

earl, what i offered was not a stereotype, it was an opinion... stop trying to be cute with your inane quote references that have absolutely nothing to do with the observations i made about Nate as an NBA basketball player... if u disagree w/what i said about Nate's love for showboating, etc., tell me why... otherwise stop wasting my time.

TMS - if you don't like wasting time then why waste time with a response?

You are free to waste time in reading/ or not waste time by easily scrolling past reading whatever I post. The fact that you find it necessary to respond about wasting time is curious. Bottom line, posting on threads is a waste of time because stating an opinion does not change a thing - but we do it - so what's the big deal?

I have clearly stated my opinion on Mr Robinson.

Counter to what you label as Nate's so-called "love of showboating" I see his potential for additional personal growth. The fact that I chose to back this opinion with quotes from people who have a closer relationship with either you or I is merely presented as evidence contrary to the long-distance viewpoint.

I believe Nate's in the same boat as Lee, a keeper if his contract is reasonable. Showcasing wont help much IMO, teams will still view him as an extremely undersized 2 nobody is going to give up a high lottery pick for him.

I love how Nate is called a showboat but somehow Gallinari's fist pumping after getting a rebound or a 3 point shot is just him expressing how happy he is to play and be part of the team. Please stop both.
