just got this notice from the MSG media machine:

http://blogs.msg.com/gameon/2007/08/from-the-desk-o.html

From The Desk Of Stephon Marbury

Stephon Marbury responds to the coverage of his comments on Michael Vick.

Here is his complete, un-edited statement:

"It is not uncommon for my comments to be misconstrued in the media, but I feel compelled to put my recent comments in the right context. What Michael Vick did was wrong and he has admitted his guilt. He should be punished. However, he should be given a second chance as others have received for more serious crimes. There is no list for which animals should be killed and which shouldn't.

As a spiritual being, I respect GOD's divine order. We're all created by GOD and animals are GOD's creatures as well. I love animals and none of them should be harmed. However, we don't react the same when other animals are being killed for sport or the sake of human pleasure. Should we, as a society, stop wearing fur coats and eating meat or hold those accountable who are responsible for the demise of those animals? In order to receive forgiveness, we must all forgive in order for healing to take place.

As an athlete and celebrity, I realize we are convenient targets for scrutiny, often unfairly. When I received a DUI, I learned from the mistake and vowed never to do it again. I came out a better person as a result. I'm sure he will learn from this mistake and become a better man. My family's thoughts and prayers go out to him and all of those impacted by this unfortunate situation."

Somehow I KNEW it would be Marc Berman.

I think Steph needs to stay away from a live mic for a while. Or at least choose his words a little more wisely and learn not to get baited so much.

What is Marb's worried about Vick getting a second chance for. If Vick comes out of prison and is still in shape and can still throw a ball 100 yards, trust me someone will give the guy a second chance.
I just hope that people will like me

I think Marbury is referring more to public opinion than Vick's professional career. You have windbags like bitch lawrence saying Vick should be put away for an "eternity".

People have a startling lack of perspective on this, and again, I have to wonder if this much venom would be used if it was Tom Brady who comitted the offense.

I was just getting ready to post this. They broke that story a while ago and have been off and on about it since and he dumped her when she was like 3-4mos pregnant and hooked up with some other woman right away. He's been dealing with this black eye for about 6mos now.

MARBURY: VICK IS '100 PERCENT WRONG'
By MARC BERMAN

August 23, 2007 -- Stephon Marbury told The Post this morning he feels he's been misrepresented as a dogfighting supporter and went on to clarify his statements in regards to defending Michael Vick.

Marbury said he detests dogfighting, feels Vick is wrong but forgives him and feels he should play again after serving time.

Click here to read Marbury's original comments on Vick.

"I don't like it at all,'' Marbury told The Post. "I don't think he's right. He's 100 percent wrong. But this dude is trying to ask for forgiveness and everyone's turning their heads on a man trying to ask for forgiveness. The way it's going about in the newspapers and TV, it's ridiculous.''

Marbury said during his sneaker tour, "from what i hear, dogfighting was a sport,'' and defended Vick.

"I never said dogfighting was a sport,'' Marbury clarified. "I said "From what I hear, dogfighting was a sport.'' They're editing me on TV. Michael Vick did not invent dogfighting.''

Marbury has made several donations this summer and his discount sneaker line has received national attention. He is concerned young kids will get the wrong message.

"It's the ESPN Michael Vick torture channel,'' Marbury told The Post. "Every day it's Michael Vick. He did something that's bad. We know he's wrong. But are we going to crucify this guy, tear his whole life down? Last year we were holding him up on this big pedestal, the best quarterback ever, the biggest contract in football history. Now he did something wrong.

"Everyone has skeletons in their closet," Marbury added. "He committed a sin. Everybody commits sins. We have to forgive. No one sin is greater than the other. I got a DUI for drinking and driving. I did something wrong, asked for forgiveness from God. I learned from my mistakes. All I'm saying, give this guy another chance.

"He should be allowed to play football after he is punished. He deserves a second chance."

Mitch Lawrence roasted him thoroughly also.... as they should. Of course we're gonna see the crybabies show up real soon to retort their stories and call them Knick Haters.

Of course, because you are obsessed with Marbury. There is no way you have the will power to not watch all his tv shows, read all his blogs, watch and read all his interviews. Its not a conincidence that you were the one to first introduce us to his comments. Even beating out DJ who is usually good for reporting news to this board before anyone else. Editing the title of the thread, spinning it so that you could bash Marbury. Now that Marbury states that Vick is 100% wrong. Rather saying that your happy that Marbury is not in support for dog fighting like Cossucks stated who also dislikes Marbury. As well as admiting that you were wrong. You resort to name calling. Calling people crybabies in defense of yourself.

You even have Marbury's wikepedia in you sig.

Its also not a conincidence that DJ is able to find these articles about Marbury putting his comments in perspective. While Trueblue seems to be somehow late on posting these articles. I can bet if Marbury would have said something negative though that Trueblue would have definatly been right on it.

I don't know, I'm not with you guys on this race thing yet again. I sat and watched every news channel lead in with Paris Hilton, come back to it in the middle and close their shows with it. She was on the cover of every magazine. She was vilified for being a spoiled biotch. People wanted her locked up for a long time to finally learn her lesson. And all she did was get a DUI. IF you are a famous celebrity and you do something wrong it will be in the papers until noone cares about it anymore and then they will move to the next "outrage" will be published.

The saddest part for me is that all the celebrity gossip and papparazzi used to be the domain of hollywood. Now it's slowly creeping into sports. Now I have to hear about the players wives, and who they are dating, and if they broke up and who is having a baby and what their political views are. I could care less.

Stephon Marbury Ain't The Problem

bippity - many "people" didn't care whether Paris Hilton was locked up or not. She does not matter one iota to millions of people with sons and daughters in the military, trying to feed their families or stay one step ahead of foreclosures.

If you watch tv and are force-fed Paris on the channels you select it is your fault for watching and following crap.

Hold up, Sean Hannity is about to come on.... I gotta run.

You mean flack or slack?

Because while admittedly I'm not an avid football fan or anything, and don't watch ESPN or what-have-you, I haven't heard one thing about it.

Which, as Bip says, is fine. None of my business, like when we all had to hear about A-Rod's accompaniment on road games. What a surprise, athletes cheat on their wives on the road.

Bip, maybe you are right, maybe the venomous reaction to this isn't about race. It could just be about puppies. If we had sent 4,000 puppies to die in Iraq the war would be over by now.

Rembee - you may be on to something

Visualize 4000 starving Pit Bulls dropped via parachute into the Al Queda mountain hideout when the US had Osama Bin Laden cornered four years ago.

You coulda put that on Pay-Per-View and used the profits to rebuild lower Manhattan in two weeks

Steph needs to take this up with Congress if he wants legislation to be changed in reference to how certain "crimes" against animals should be viewed as serious as some others... this is a simple case of someone who broke the law, nothing more, nothing less... Mike Vick admitted his guilt & he deserves to pay the price for the horrible decision he made by getting involved in this to begin with... does he deserve all the public backlash that he's getting? that's a subjective question that can only yield a subjective answer... some people don't view dogfighting as serious of a crime as others do... but then, you can also argue that drunk driving is as bad if not a worse crime than drug trafficking in certain respects, because it can potentially directly lead to the death of an innocent human being, but there's a large discrepancy for the punishment that our legislation hands out for both offenses in comparison... let's not make this a moral issue, because that's when you drag this argument out forever... i look at it like this: you do the crime, you do the time... that's a much simpler way to look at this whole mess IMHO.

If you watch tv and are force-fed Paris on the channels you select it is your fault for watching and following crap.

Hold up, Sean Hannity is about to come on.... I gotta run.

Mistereal that was my point. I think you might have missed it. I personally don't care about Paris Hilton. I don't care about Michael Vick. I don't care about any of these people. I hope they all do well and are happy but in the end I don't know them anymore than I know joe blow down the street from me and do not want to know the details of their personal lives. I don't have to have a son or a daughter in Iraq or trying to stay one step ahead of foreclosure to not care. I have my own concerns and issues and problems. But every now and then I take a break from my worries and stresses and turn on the tv or read a paper and BAM! there is some celebrity gossip. Now in the past I was able to just throw the first few sections of the paper out and get to what I really care about, the sports page. And in that sports page I had my sanctuary. But that sanctuary is now slowly being taken over by celebrity gossip. That was my point. Did you miss it?

My second point that you might have missed was that I think the media loves scandal. They love to report about scandal. Because despite the reality that they do not matter one iota to millions of people with sons and daughters in the military, trying to feed their families or stay one step ahead of foreclosures. To others they do matter. Others are consumed with this celebrity scandal. Paris and Britney are in the papers because people love to hear about scandals of the rich and famous, and they buy up the papers. Vick is in the papers for similar reasons. If it was a third string offensive tackle for the Seattle Seahawks involved in this scandel no matter what race, you would not have known about it. Some are quick to point out race as a factor about everything. In some cases it definitely is. In some cases it definitely isn't. In other cases it's up for debate and open minded people should be able to debate it. But the moment the debate is brought up, ironically the person who gives the alternate point of view is told to be quiet, called names and accused of being the closed minded one. Oh the irony. It's just too easy to claim racism, homophobia, sexism etc. Everything has to be scrubbed for political correctness. But I personally need direct evidence before I claim these things. And when I see Paris Hilton all over the front page for a DUI and then Michael Vick all over the front page for his crimes, I see commonality. That commonality is celebrity and fame and not race.

agreed 100%... the tabloid journalism that's taking over the sports networks these days is a disgrace... what's even sadder is that the predominant majority of sports fans eat that stuff up

LOL Marbury has been pimped by the press for yrs, how come he doesn't know what to do in these situations? He gets no AT A BOY for backtracking/backpedaling because everything that was clarified from his recent comments should have been clearly stated from jump or better yet, just tell the press you'll pass from commenting on this subject.

And no I don't pay attention to everything going on with this guy. I missed several of his Blogs that he worked in conjunction with Berman and also plenty of other stuff. This is receiving major press, almost impossible to avoid and whether you know it or not I've broken quite a few non Marbury related subjects on this board such as Free Agent signings, Trades and potential Trade(Rumors).

I even stated in the initial post of this thread that

He's right about the media though.

I'm sure all the tears that flooded up your eyes didn't allow you to see that!
