sure, same but the opposite when you play tougher teams. That's why they play the whole season to figure out division and wild card titles.
His argument doesn't even work anyway. Post all-star break, the Yankees are 11-6 against the elite teams of the AL (those at least ten games over .500). They've been beating up on great teams, awful teams, and everything in between.

In the last few weeks, the Yankees have played Cleveland (Division leader), Detroit twice (Defending AL Champ and in the playoff race), LA Angels (Division leader) and Boston (Division leader and best record in baseball).
What is this Mets fan talking about exactly?
Oh and the Yankees are 12-8 in those games.
