According to the NY Daily News, Laimbeer thinks Isiah will name either Larry Brown (doubtful due to health problems) or Laimbeer as coach.
Laimbeer has told at least two executives with the Detroit Pistons that if Larry Brown doesn't end up in New York, Thomas will turn to him. Laimbeer, who is currently coaching the WNBA's Detroit Shock, has had two interviews with Thomas.

"Bill is a no-nonsense guy and that's what the Knicks want," said one source. "It's going to be either Larry or Bill."

The Knicks refuse to comment on the status of their coaching search. Thomas, the team president, said in April that the incumbent Herb Williams was the front-runner.

the Shock were a great team... maybe Bill can bring in some of his old players to show Crawford, TT how to play with some toughness

Sarcasm.....

I just read something earlier about Toronto willingness to pick Frye before us...if that is true, it would be very bad for N.Y...perhaps the Bynum lovers may get their whish after all.

I got a feeling he is gonna make the Knicks a better team. Larry Brown would be nice to have behind these youngins but if Larry decides to stay in Detroit or go to Cleveland....I would definately go with Bill Laimbeer.

I would definitely welcome the change! Bring on Laimbeer!

Also, if Toronto picks Frye, then we will definitely have a chance to grab either Granger, Green or Graham, at least the last one, whichi would be great if we indeed are trading TT this offseason...

I'd take Laimbeer and damn near anybody else over Herb. And WTF does Toronto, Frye, Bynum have to do with this?!

I think trading Q opens the door for taking a frontcourt player, even if its a forward. It would be tough to pass on Granger. A SL of Marbury/Q/Granger is big and really presents some nasty matchups. Crawford and Ariza could be part of a GREAT 2nd unit as well... but I think Ike Diogu could step in and give you KT's production almost right away. Plus he's bigger, younger and has a better motor.

I think we can make up for KT's pruduction with one of these 2 scenarios, of course both guys may be gone by the time we pick but:

pick 8: Bynum
pick 30: Morris 6-10 266

OR

pick 8: Granger or Graham
pick 30: Morris or Martynas

I'm with you man....tuesday seems to be taking forever - although i'm sure the nice weekend will help it come a little faster. I cant wait to see who gets picked, and I have my fingers crossed it is a center not names Frye.

I will support whomever Isiah drafts to play the Center position. If it is Frye, oh well, If it is Bynum, oh well. One thing is for sure, we better have at least 2 true centers on our active roster

considering the fact that we havent had a true center since Ewing - getting 2 seems like a tall order doesnt it? I agree with you, but I wouldnt be surprised if we didnt get 2. Tall Euros who dont get any minutes dont count either. I want guys who get playing time and can help the team.

Maybe Zeke isn't recruiting Bill as a coach but he wants to bring him out of retirement to play C!!!

I say give the job to Laimbeer. He is a hard-ass with the rings for credibility, my way or the highway. He is PJ with more clout.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

Larry rarely stays anywhere for too long. Now he's getting old and has some health issues. Maybe the smartest thing is to get Larry to take the job, higher Bill as his top assistant with the understanding that when Larry leaves, Bill takes over.

Actually, that would be perfect for both party. Bill would have a great mentor in Larry, that's for sure...Dallas did it with AVery, so N.Y can emulate Dallas a little.

MY HUSBAND WILL NOT BE THE KNICKS' NEXT COACH

By MARC BERMAN

LARRY Brown will not coach the Knicks next year, and instead hopes to return to the Pistons' bench, health permitting, his wife said emphatically yesterday in an exclusive interview with The Post.

"We're going to be back in Detroit next year. He's not going to coach the Knicks, and that's a fact. We wish the Knicks well," Shelly Brown said in a phone interview — in which she also revealed that Larry Brown underwent surgery at the Mayo Clinic last Thursday to fix a bladder problem.

It was Brown's third surgery in seven months, and he is recovering at his summer home in East Hampton, Shelly Brown said.

Knick president Isiah Thomas has held off naming a head coach on the chance Larry Brown would be able to escape his Piston contract and take his nomadic career to Madison Square Garden.

"Isiah is a nice guy," Shelly Brown said. "Larry loves Isiah. But if Isiah is waiting for Larry, he's wasting his time. And you can quote me."

That would seem to all but officially close the door on Larry Brown joining the Knicks — but this being Larry Brown, there's still enough intrigue in the air to keep it ajar.

In a statement released yesterday, Piston GM Joe Dumars was more vague than Shelly Brown.

"Joe Glass [Brown's agent] and I have started talking about Larry's situation and we are continuing to discuss the matter," Dumars said. "As of right now, there is nothing new to report."

Shelly Brown is optimistic Larry's surgery will allow him to coach the Pistons, but it's not guaranteed. In fact, Larry Brown was quoted in yesterday's Detroit Free-Press saying, "I'm just trying to get my bladder in order. I don't really know what the next step is."

Glass spoke to Dumars yesterday to give him a medical update. The Knicks' only hope is if Dumars feels he can't wait any longer and they decide on a contract buyout.

That's where the Knicks pop in. NBA executives believe Glass and the Browns are putting the ball in the Pistons' court.

Shelly Brown said Larry will do everything to demonstrate to Dumars he doesn't want to leave. Larry will need two to six weeks to recuperate. Shelly said even if the surgery doesn't have the desired effect, other newly invented procedures could solve the issue.

"We love the Knicks, he grew up here, but why would he leave Detroit?" Shelly said. "Larry loves his guys in Detroit. Everything's in place to win another championship. He's got all his guys there. He has his team."

In his first season in Detroit, Brown guided the Pistons to the NBA championship, but a repeat fell 18 minutes short in San Antonio. The Pistons had a nine-point lead midway through the third quarter of Game 7 of The Finals two weeks ago before succumbing.

In a touching moment during a timeout with 25 seconds left in the Pistons' victory in Game 6, Brown told his players before breaking the huddle, "I didn't tell you I love you guys."

"What he said in the huddle, he meant it," said Shelly.

Brown wasn't as emphatic as his wife after the Game 7 loss as he left SBC Center. When asked by The Post if Thomas had any hope, Larry said, "I want to go get well and then see what happens."

Shelly said her family has adapted to Michigan life and they get enough of a taste of New York in the summer.

"We love it here," she said.

The Browns built a summer home in the Hamptons three years ago and Brown, raised in Long Beach, gets his fill, seeing his mother and relatives.

"It was different [in Michigan] the first year, but it got better and now we're settled," said Shelly, who is from Los Angeles.

Thomas suggested last week it could be August before he names a coach. Perhaps he realizes the Brown mess might drag on until then. If Shelly's right, Herb Williams and Bill Laimbeer are the leading candidates to coach the Knicks.

I rather have Bill than Herb. I rather have a guy with no friendly ties in the organization. Herb is to loyal to certain players to a fault. A fresh start with a tough new coach would be instrumental in turning this disaster around
