if it was up to me, i would trade steph for a lottery pick (#2 to atlanta b/c they have the cap space) - we may have to sweeten the pot and give up the #30 as well.

and then trade the #2 to charlotte (if bogut is #1, otherwise draft bogut) for #5 and #13 (they want paul)

giving us #5 #8, #13, #54
draft deron williams at 5
draft bynum at 8
draft warrick at 13
best player available at 54

giving us this pipeline:
d williams
crawford
ariza/warrick
sweets/warrick
bynum

Chicago was a lottery team for about 7 or 8 years, and that was mainly because they made bad personel moves. They had Ron Artest and Elton Brand and traded them for crying out loud!!

Phoenix was never that bed to begin with and they didn't make any ballsy moves really. They signed to free agents after trading their star pg for cap space. They already had Amare, Marion, and Joe Johnson, I don' think that was all that ballsy. good moves, but not ballsy.

You are proposing to blow up the team and hop all of these picks pan out. This would turn us into the hawks, or the bobcats. There is no guarantee this way either.

May be more fun than mediocrity!

Funny, Isiah been on the job for 18 months and we still don't know the direction of the team. OR we just refuse to see reality!

while i don't necessarily disagree w/ur concept of freeing up cap space & getting in younger players, you're basically trading Stephon Marbury, a proven allstar calibre player & 1 of the top PG's in the NBA, for Deron Williams & Hakim Warrick in that scenario...i think you have to get back more than that if you're giving up your best player who's in his prime.

in this day and age, when bdiddy is traded for dale davis (cap fodder) and speedy claxton...and the only team willing to give more would be us, i think 2 lottery picks would be the asking price for steph. (he is in his prime but he's also never won - nash's asking price would be more now than steph's)

of course this could all blow up - but it's a freak'n plan - something nalod alluded to - that we don't have. it's a total balls out move but one that could work as well.

i'm tired of being in this mired pit of mediocrity and i want to try this method - it's worked for alot of other teams, so why not try it?

I think your thread title says it all. Marbury is Isiah's signature move, he would never ever admit to a mistake by trading him.

in that case, i would actually much rather hold onto the #2 pick & take Marvin Williams...then take a PG w/the #8 pick, & try to move up from #30 to the late teens to take Warrick by trading Sweetney.

if I could get two lottery picks for Marbury, I'd do it- assuming they were this year.

Marbs a great player, but there is a good sized chunk of our cap locked up in him.

Problem is, there is no way that deal ever happens

I'd love this. If we could get Joey Graham with the 13th, that's be even better (though I doubt he'd still be there). I also like the fact that this gives us perhaps 25% chance of getting Bogut.

Like TMS I would just hold on to the 2nd pick and draft Marvin Williams. With 8 I would take Bynum. Then I would try to move up in the draft using Kurt and the 30 pick as the bait, maybe a team like Minnesota would bite with pick 14. If I got pick 14, I would use that on Martell Webster if he is still there. That would give you something like

PG- Jamal Crawford
SG- Martell Webster
SF- Marvin Williams
PF- Sweets
C- Andrew Bynum

I would rather have Felton than Williams. Thats a two year plan because your winning 30 games next year at best.. probably closer to 25.

I dont know if I would do that but if our GM did I cant say I would be pissed... I would probably be pretty damn happy.

No problem with your plan except why should the Knicks draft Warrick, if he had a horrible workout for them. You might as well include Taft in your plan too. Greene/Wright, Bynum(to keep everyone happy), Blatche, and Louis Williams in the 2nd round.

Where does Houston fit in your plan. You want to keep him? He should be the first Knick traded.
